The doc put me in a BOOT for a MONTH!
But I begged, and begged until he agreed to give me a really good brace for the week. I have to wear the boot until we get there, then I can switch to the brace!!! If I can stand the pain, I can wear the brace in the parks & the boot any other time!!! Then it's back in the boot until the month is up & I follow-up with him.

THEN... DS13 got a possible concussion at basketball practice. You know it's bad when a teenage boy is begging to go to the doctor! I didn't want him spending the night in a hospital waiting room, so I'm going to watch him thru the night & take him to the doc in the morning if he isn't completely better. He's got a black eye and a goose egg on the top of his head.

These are the kinds of days I have. You just have to roll with it.

Keep those prayers coming! That's what gets us thru.

I'm trying to wait until midnight to wake him, but I'm so worried I might not be able to wait out the next 10 minutes. I'm going to set a clock and wake him again around 4. It's gong to be a long night.

Having had MANY neurological exams, I'm pretty good at giving one. He did everything great. Didn't pass out after the blow to the head and didn't throw up. I checked his pupil function, strength in arms and legs, reflexes, etc... AND I called two critical care flight nurses that are friends. I got lots of advice on what to do and what to look for. I feel comfortable watching him thru the night. BUT if he even has a headache in the morning, we are going straight to the hospital. I promise.

That's for sure! My mom got some bad health news today, too. Actually, I'm glad it's TOMORROW here on the East Coast!!! Today will be better. It's supposed to snow... That means no bread or milk in any store anywhere in the state of NC!

OK, that didn't go so well. I scared him half to death! He jumped up out of the bed in a panic when I opened the door. I had to sit with him until he fell back to sleep - he held my hand so hard it hurt!
I think I might let him sleep the rest of the night. We get up in 6 hours anyway. I hate to freak him out again.

Not really a nurse - a biologist. I've just been sick for about 10 years - 13 surgeries, migraines, etc. And I've been taking care of my mom with 2, stage 4 cancers. And I have a bunch of nurse and doctor friends that I bug with questions... So I feel ok about waiting. If he had seemed off to me in any way other than the headache I would have rushed him there for sure.
