The restaurant looks really nice! That was too bad about the Lobster and Scallop Lasagna. That sounds amazing! But your pulled pork looks really delicious! That was nice that you got a complimentary dessert out of it. The cake looks so yummy! What is it with kids and Hooters? My kids are obsessed with that restaurant, too! They have never been there, as far as I know, so is it just because they like saying the word, ďHootersĒ?

I am sooo glad you had such a great experience at the restaurant... It looks really lovely... ....decor... food... service....

I love that your mom drank 2 glasses of champagne...good for her... and I'll bet Victoria was feeling pretty pleased that she got served... ... actually I think that it's actually really nice... it's good for teenagers to learn to slowly drink a bit at celebrations with their families...

Oh... and New York crowded deserves its whole own category...
(Since I'm about an 1 1/2 to 2 hour ride from there... we can do Daytrips... I've been in those crowds... they can be either exciting or scary... depending on the circumstances...

Its Thanksgiving!! Okay, well its not really Thanksgiving, but it is in my mini trip report! Since our plan to watch it from the hotel window has changed, we had to come up with a new plan. The new plan consisted of getting up at 6am, eating breakfast at the cafť and heading towards the parade route by 8am. Lots and lots of people had the very same plan as we were no where near the street to see the parade. You want to talk about crowds --- Disney has NOTHING on the NYC crowds for the parade! We noticed it was pretty cold waiting an hour for it to start. Oh, it was sunny, but the buildings are so tall that the sun never made it down to the street. It was very surreal! While hanging out on the street we met 2 actresses from Japan and a really nice lady from Texas. Would you believe there was not an EVC in sight! (sorry, had to sneak that in there!) The parade started and we were able to see the higher floats and balloons.

Its funny because you could actually see how Sponge Bob wasnt fully inflated and how the Kool-Aid balloon kept running into the street signs. I actually had to read online who the stars on the floats were because we really couldnt see them. As for the performances, I guess you have to be near Macys and Herald Square to see any of that. I wish we would have known that prior to going. Also, my Mom found out that you could also pay to have a reserved spot. Ok, Mom&&why didnt you do more research before we left? That would have been awesome! Oh well. Live and learn, right?!

Just wanted to add this one pic of my Mom ---- so happy to realize her dream.....

It was then off to find somewhere to eat. I had originally thought my Mom was taking care of making this reservationÖ.um, no. I donít think she believes in reservationsÖ..seriously. After the parade we went back to the hotel and I looked over the dining guides and information I had gotten at the front desk. Mom did say it was up to me. I picked a place called Victorís and it was over by Broadway. It sounded good and since my family is used to trying different restaurants at Disney, I thought this would be fun. It was about 3 blocks away --- a nice walk and it was so cool to look down Broadway. We donít have billboards in Maine, so to see all of those was amazing! We went in and were seated. The place was pretty --- very Cuban feel. We were given menus and itís then that my mother said she didnít want to eat here. MOM! We sat down, were given menus and water and itís NOW that you say you donít want to eat here? You left this up to me! I was pretty embarrassed to get up and leave. I know that wouldnít bother some people, but it did bother me. Honestly, I was upset! I told the group it was up to them and that I was now just going to follow. Ugh! We ended up eating at a place called Joeís. It was good and the architecture in the building was beautiful. It reminded me of an old mill type of place.

Oh yeah, sheís happy nowÖÖ..

Up next ----- the M & M STORE!!! Thatís right folksÖ..a whole 3 story store dedicated to M & Mís!!! OMG!!! There are M&Mís EVERYWHERE!!!! We each filled a bag of the various colors/flavors of candies. It was unbelievable!

The rest of the day was spent walking around and hanging out at the hotel. We were up early so we were all kind of tired. I think this was the evening Peter and I took a walk and went to Pizza Hut for supper. YeahÖ..we were bumps on a log, huh??

Yeah, it's taking me some time writing this mini trip report but I've been in such a funk lately that I don't feel like doing much of anything. Today is a good day, but that's rare lately.

oh, Karen...it was sooooooo tiny! And there was no fan!! ugh!

Did they even apologize for putting you all in rooms with no view? Oh well, as Karen said, Iím glad you can laugh about it now. The Christmas tree was pretty! And, hey, youíre in New York! I am excited to see the rest of the report. I have never been to NYC and I really want to go!
All in all we made the best of it and had a really nice trip. According to what Mom said, they really didn't apologize. She did go down to the desk to complain but nothing came of that. She also said she was going to write a letter. I'm not sure if that ever happened.

it seems as if this hotel misrepresented themselves and what they were offering, you don't won't your mother to get taken and this is such a special trip for all of you but especially her... it's really ashamed to think you're getting a parade view room and that certainly wasn't that...

I am anxious and hopeful that things progress more smoothly...

BTW... your mom is really cute...
Yeah, I think Mom is pretty cute and fiesty!! She's the cute little old French lady!

Oh man, Victoria wanted to go to Hooters so bad. I personally don't get it, but I guess it's the age thing.

That must be neat to be able to go to NYC for daytrips. We can do that with Boston, too. I thought the crowds were neat in one way but irritating in other ways.

Well, we got to see the balloons in person anyways. Yep, Mom was so happy and that's what was most important about the whole trip!

Friday morning&..BLACK FRIDAY! You dont really expect me to go shopping on Black Friday, do you? In NYC? Are you insane? So, guess what we did Friday morning --- thats right ---- went shopping!! Oh, and not only just shopping, but shopping at the largest department store in the nation ---- MACYS. OMG!!! So crazy!! Would you believe that Macy's has 9 floors!!! It was absolutely amazing! Crowded as heck, but beautiful. They have old wooden escalators in the building which are really neat.

That's Mom looking at Santa. She just loves Christmas and Santa. Can you see the look in her face? It's so precious!

Waiting for me, standing in line trying to purchase 2 ornaments.

Our secondstop of the day though was the One Direction store for Victoria. Yes, folks&.they have an entire store dedicated to the band One Direction. It was mobbed with teens and preteens and their tired looking parents. Victoria was in heaven! She had $50 to spend and believe me, she spent it!

They had an area set up where you could do One Direction karaoke! Yep&..I did it too!!

Yeah, we are susperstahs!!!!! The next thing that Victoria wanted to do was get her picture with the group. They set her on a green screen and basically photoshoped her into the picture. It was pretty cool!

Ill have to go on her FB to find the finished product and download it and post it at another time. I know, I know, you are all patiently waiting for it Im sure!

Up next is our adventure to Radio City Music Hall and the Christmas Spectacular Show!!!!

Iím caught up again! Thatís kind of cool that the buildings blocked out the sun like that! I never would have thought! Your mom looks so happy to be seeing the parade I wonder how much the reserved spots cost? I bet they are an arm and a leg! For the record, I would have been embarrassed to get up and leave a restaurant, too. Joeís looked nice, though. Ooh! An M&M store! OK, I canít believe you went shopping at Macyís on Black Friday! That must have been an experience! It looks really cool there! I had no idea there was a One Direction store Thank goodness my daughter doesnít know this! Thatís nice that you guys were able to do karaoke! Yes, we want to see Victoriaís picture with 1D!!!

85th Annual Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall

Let me just start off by saying this show was amazing!! The hall itself is so grand and beautiful. It would be hard to describe it in words as itís just magnificent ---- and the chandelier is unbelievable! The show itself featured the Rockettes, but it also had a storyline to it about a Momís quest to find the perfect gift for her daughter. There was even a 3-D part to it. If ever anyone gets a chance to see this show, do it! I canít say enough good about it. We were sitting right behind a railing, so that served me well as a tripod (just like Karenís garbage cans at Disney!!). The most beautiful part of the show was when the Manger scene appeared and they told the story of the first Christmas. I cried. It was just beautiful. I hope you all enjoy these pictures.

The M & M store is really cute... I was in there several years ago with Em... loved all the colors in there...

I am really impressed that you braved those crowds in Macy's... Macy's Herald Square is really lovely... and you really can see the old touches in places from the 30s and 40s...very cool... you can imagine what it was like during the Miracle on 34th Street era... Didn't you love the windows?

I was waiting and holding back... but I'm so glad that you liked the Christmas Spectacular... I loved it too! It is wonderfully over the top, but so incredibly entertaining and well done... Radio City is so lovely inside ... Thank God it was preserved and never redone or torn down... (apparently they talked about it in the 70s...) I challenge anyone not to have a smile on their face after seeing it. In a strange way-there's a bit of old Hollywood glamour to it... even though of course it isn't in Hollywood... but that retro entertainment glamourous feeling...So happy it was a good experience for you...

We left off with the most wonderful stage show Iíve seen! Iím not sure what time we got out, but we had gone to the 1pm show so Iím assuming it was about 3 or so when it got done. It wasnít a very far walk back to the Wellington, so we hoofed it. We hung out at the hotel for a bit and then headed down the street for supper. It was Peterís choice this time and he based his decision on the proximity of the restaurant to the hotel. Good Job Peter! Actually, it was a very nice Italian restaurant called Circo. It had very nice dťcor and I love Italian food so I was sure everyone was going to be happy with his choice. The waitstaff was ok --- not all that out friendly like we had encountered so far. Eh, whatever. We go to eat, right?

This was the nice bread platter that came out with virgin olive oil dipping sauce

My meal was some kind of steak dish. I canít remember exactly.

Mom paid the bill and we were off. We spent a little time walking around since it was really nice out and all the lights were really pretty.

Then it was time to head back to the hotel and pack up since we were leaving early the next morning. Mom had arranged for a town car to pick us up and take us to the airport. That was fun!

We were back home from Portland at about 2pm, so we went to my friend Janeís home to pick up Cutie. She was very excited to see us and we were just as excited to be home.

Wrap up:
Well, the good is all the sights we saw. Itís so different than home and so busy! The streets are set up like a grid, so as long as you knew the address of someplace, it was easy to get to. I bet if I spent more time researching different restaurants and things to do, we would have seen a lot more than we did. We never made it to the Statue of Liberty or Central Park for a carriage ride. I never made it to the Disney Outlet either. Itís hard to please everyone, isnít it? I would have liked to see the windows along Madison Avenue, too, but we didnít have the chance. I would have loved to see a show on Broadway as well.

The bad ---- THE HOTEL!!! NEVER, EVER again would I stay there. The rooms are outdated and the service both at the front desk and bellmen were not great. Itís definitely not what they advertised on their website! The people in NYC drive crazy!! Iíve never seen more lane changes without blinkers in my whole life! But, even with all this, Victoria and I would love to go again so we could do the things we didnít get a chance to. Peter, on the other hand, did not like NYC. Too many people and everything is too close. There was no grass and heís a farm boy so he was sad to only see concrete! And he missed his chickens!

Itís now Christmas Eve. (Actually itís only 11am, so I guess itís not technically Christmas Eve yet). I did go to Wal-mart before work this morning just to get stocking stuffers as I wasnít going to go this afternoon with all the crazy shoppers! I get out at noon today, but still, I wanted to be all done. Tonight my 2 brothers and I will be going to my Momís house for dinner and presents as is tradition. Victoria and I will be going to Mass at 4pm as itís being said in honor of my father who passed away in 2002. I may not be a great Catholic girl, but I do go to church for Christmas. Iím just hoping Peter will be home in time to go with us. Mom didnít want me to make anything for dinner this year, so that gives me a little break. Iím going to go home, get Victoria in the tub (as that child procrastinates like you wouldnít believe!) and relax a little. I have a cold. Ugh! It just came on when I woke up yesterday and I am not happy! At least I donít have the chills and body aches like I did last night. I did host Peterís family yesterday for their Christmas. Only 13 people showed up, but that was plenty for me! I had made a ton of food which is now sitting in my fridge as leftovers. Does anyone want any meatballs or little hotdogs? Anyone? Ok, fine. I wouldnít be able to mail them to you anyways. I made my first toutierre pie (pork pie) for the party as thatís a French tradition and I attempted to make fudge. It came out yummy but messy! It was hard to cut, so itís not very pretty. Oh well, itís more important to be yummy, right?? We had a Yankee swap and played the Hot Potato Grinch game. Now that was fun! Itís just like hot potato, but you throw a musical Grinch around and when he stops singing the person holding him is out.

Only one more hour left of work. Yeah!! I do like my job but things in the office have been pretty upsetting lately. Itís hard to maintain a good working relationship when some people just want to cut you down and point out to the supervisor every little error you make. And they are not even errors --- theyíre judgment calls which I have to do a lot of in my job. The worst part of the situation is that this person is my assistant. Ugh! Itís like she wants my job! I just wish things were a lot more relaxed. I hate having to watch what I say or how I do things. At least my supervisor doesnít have issues with me and thatís the most important thing, right? Even so, I have applied for another job. It would be at least $1 more per hour. The State of Maine employees havenít had a raise in over 5 years, so to promote is the only was to get more money right now. I know thatís only $40 more per week, but itís something! The good news is that I received this email this morning:

Ann:

I want to thank-you for your interest in our Social Service Program Specialist II position within the Office of Aging and Disability Services located in Augusta. We have completed our review of the direct hire applications we received through the recruitment process, and Iím pleased to inform you that we have forwarded your name to the selection committee to be contacted for an interview.

We will keep your resume on file for six months from the date of this letter. In closing, I would like to thank you again for your interest in this important position and wish you well in the balance of the selection process.

Isnít that cool??!!! I really appreciate the person taking the time, especially on Christmas Eve to let me know. I thought it was going to be a ďYou SuckĒ letter, as thatís what we call the ďthank you, but you are not wantedĒ letters. Iím assuming the interview will be set up after the new year. Thereís something to look forward to as well as my 2 trips to Florida in 2013! I really have been blessed, even with all my and Victoriaís health issues.

WowÖ..arenít I just rambling on and on this morning?!Ö..Karen would be so proud! All my work is done for the day (I didnít have very much this morning) so I am taking the time to finish up the NYC mini-trip report so we can go forth with more Disney planning!! I bought the movie Brave, so Iím sure there will be a movie night in the near future that I will have to write about.

Everyone, have a MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Thanks for being my friends and reading along. It means more than youíll ever know!!!!

Hey Ann,

Sounds like you had a Merry Christmas but I'm sorry to hear you had a cold... (It's probably a lot to due with all of the pre holiday hustle and bustle...) I'm happy to hear about your new job possibility...

Overall, you're New York trip sounded like it really was a big success...the last Italian restaurant...Osteria Del Circa looks like it had fun decor... too bad the servers were eh...

Just curious because you mentioned your mom being French before and you also mentioned you made a toutierre pie... is your family from Quebec originally? I find the whole blend of the French language and culture melded with the North American really interesting...(I know a bit of French from school and Emily is studying it now...) We were in Quebec City last summer... and we really enjoyed it... I kept noticing how the French culture blended /was unique to North American ie. different in some ways and the same in other ways to when you are in France...

Anyway... I hope you all have a very Happy New Year...

Absolutely! Rambles of any kind are welcome in my book! I'm so glad you enjoyed NYC and that you took so many pics and did a TR! I was pretty impressed that you took food porn shots! I cannot help but photograph my food, it's a sickness. I hope you get the job you applied for, that would be GREAT!!!! You'll love Brave, we really did. Can't wait to hear more Disney plans!!!

So I finally had a chance to go through the whole report a little better - I just posted quickly the last couple of times. NYC looks amazing! I'm sorry to hear about Victoria having PCOS - that must be a lot at age 14. As for the self-harming, please, please don't blame yourself. I have some personal experience with things like this, and as low as I ever was, I never blamed my mom. Sure there were things that weren't perfect, and in certain states you can feel angry at anyone but deep down, I knew that she wasn't to blame. I'm sure that your daughter knows this too. Counselling is a great idea, and it does not signify anything wrong with you or your parenting. These people are trained to deal with these types of situations and they are also impartial 3rd parties. I hope that you are okay with me posting all of this on your report. I hope that you are feeling better now than you were when you made that post.
