Introduction

Welcome to my planning journal!

My husband and I have been married for 17 years but together for 23 years. We have 3 children and our first grandchild celebrated her 1st birthday this past weekend. Our youngest is our beautiful daughter who is about to start her sophomore year in college for prelaw. She and her boyfriend have been together since 8th grade and he will be proposing to her after our vow renewal while we are celebrating at WDW. (She knows this but not how or exactly when). Our boys are both 22. One is currently in the Marines and happily married to our beautiful daughter-in-law. Our other son is working full time and will be going back to college this January. He has been classified as other health impaired but defied the odds and is doing excellent. We have been blessed. We have 5 dogs....my baby is a 5 year old Great Pyrenees/Black Lab and he has stolen my heart. Yes, he will be traveling with us and boarding on WDW property.

Regarding our vow renewal this is an idea we tossed around every so often but decided to actually do it about 2 months ago for our 20th anniversary. We were 18 & 19 when we met and had our wedding at the courthouse. We had planned a larger wedding but decided it was best to buy our first home for our growing family. We married on Christmas Eve. I was absolutely in love with my husband...and somehow two decades later I am more in love and happier than I could have ever imagined. He truly is my best friend.

Now, on to the fun stuff! I have been researching venues for hours daily. We had decided against Opryland and then moved on to Biltmore Estate in NC. I was thrilled as it is just stunning. We had planned on doing this in 2 years from now so I thought I should start researching. I somehow came across an article regarding Disney vow renewals which led from one thing to the next...and here I am....having decided on a Wishes package as I thought a WDW vow renewal would be out of our price range.

Due to the fact that 2 of our children will be in college (living at home still) and our other son will be getting out of the Marines and moving here with his family in February....we decided to add one more year to our renewal to cover the added costs. They are all too young and do not have the funds for a week at WDW including airfare, etc....

Crunching the numbers.

Both our parents divorced and remarried when we were young. Due to this we have quite a large family. Between our parents, brothers, sisters, and their spouses and children we are planning on anywhere between 29 and 53 people who could attend that we would invite. We live in KY and have family in NY (we moved from there 5 years ago), AL, GA, FL, VA, and OK. We have chosen to hold our vow renewal in Dec because that is the only time we really love to visit WDW because of the extra decorations.....we also got married that month. Therefore many may not be able to attend because that is an expensive time of year or their children would still be in school.

We will be leaving with quite a large caravan of vehicles from KY on the first Friday of Dec....staying the night somewhere and arriving Sat at WDW early afternoon. We will hold our renewal Monday...stay Tuesday and then my husband, Muzby (must be crazy-for getting another dog) and myself will leave for a private vacation somewhere in the Florida keys. My hubby is planning that as his surprise. The rest of our family will be staying at WDW for 3 more days. My fathers side are Disney addicts and go yearly.

All my husband and I are certain of so far is that we will do a plated dinner, open bar, and either dessert cruise....or dessert later that night at Epcot for the Illuminations. We want our vow renewal to be around 5:00-6:00 with a cocktail hour before dinner. We have just only started looking at venues. I know from previous trips that early Dec can be warm and sunny or unbearably cold. We have to choose indoor locations.

Vow renewal etiquette.

Upon hours of reading the do's and do nots for vow renewals I decided after my husband lovingly told me that we are grown adults...paying for this ourselves so we will do as we dream. I found one web site that seemed very traditional in that most things you see on TV or that everyone else does are not appropriate. Others state you can go all out and wear that big princess gown as it's our day. I personally fall in the middle only by my own personal style and likes.

We have chosen to walk down to a classical piece of music together....as we really do everything together. We do not need people to stand up beside us but want to incorporate our children. So we will have our processional as our family story. Our boys will be there first with my husband and I. Somehow we want our daughter to then appear. Then our daughter in law. Our son and his wife will walk first as he is now married and then they will sit in a front row. Then our other son will escort our daughter and they will then also sit. Then our newest addition...our granddaughter will walk snd then sit with mommy and daddy. My husband and I want to have it play out as our family journey- the story of us. That is our "theme" for this day. My husband and I will then walk together. My father will be the one officiating our renewal. We chose not to do new rings as this is not a "wedding".... I will wear a white bridal dress but no veil. We will have my father bless our marriage in prayer....renew our vows along with our own written ones. We are looking at the idea of having the Covenant of Salt done. My daughter wants to do a reading about us as parents and how much she loves our marriage. I may need a "No ugly crying" hankies for that. Then of course a kiss.
We will do a cocktail hour but any pictures during that time will be of all our family. We will do our own private photographs earlier that day. I did decide on the 10 hour photography package.
For dinner I know a few things. One long table. A garden theme. I love white linens with huge tall center pieces dripping with moss, ivy, and other greenery. I have yet to decide if I want silver or gold accents. I'm not a crystal bling type of a person so no to any of that. We do want up lighting. I am thinking of gold, slowly turning to pink, then blue. We decided on a DJ. But we do not want him to talk....at all. We are already married and want to enter for dinner with our family. No introductions needed. We will not be having any choreographed father daughter or mother son dances. I know they will happen but I want it to feel more romantic. If my father wants to come take my hand to a beautiful song then that is how I want it. I want people to go by emotion. So during dinner the volume of music will be turned down a bit as our family is full of witty sarcasm and we want the laughter and social aspect to rule. Oh, I do want a lot of candles. Love the ambiance. After dinner is when we would have the music volume up a bit more. Mostly slow romantic songs. Mixture between classical, jazz, country, etc... To give everyone something they enjoy. The only song that will be played for our dance is our song....it is Sea of Love by The Honeydrippers. If you have not heard it Robert Plants voice is dreamy. And it fits leaving for the beach 2 days later. It also fits as the day we did meet we have never been apart.

I will post more later. It is so late and I should have been asleep hours ago. I really need help with something for anyone who has actually read all of this....if I have saved photographs on my iPad how do I upload them to here?

Good night! Happy dreaming...Happy Planning

Congratulations!

We're currently planning our vow renewal too so I'm excited to follow along with your plans as well.

To add photos upload them to a storage website like photo bucket and then you can link from there
