Disney has announced today the 2012/2013 Military Ticket Promotion. It is similar to past promotions.
Tickets will be available for sale beginning October 1, 2012 and will be valid only through September 28, 2013. There will be three types of tickets available at WDW. Four Day Park Hopper - $156 (plus tax) Four Day Base with Water Parks Fun and More - $156 (plus tax) Four Day Hopper with WPF&M - $184 (plus tax) Tickets sold at military installation, or Shades of Green, will not have tax added and may be sold at a lower price if the installation desires. Eligibility: Active and Retired U.S. Military, including National Guard, Reservists, and Coast Guard. It also includes Permanently Disabled Veterans with a Government ID showing DAVPRM. A foreign/coalition partner stationed at a U.S., Base who has a permanent US Military (CAC ) card will be allowed to purchase/activate tickets. As far as Disney is concerned, a service member does not have to buy or activate all tickets at the same time. As long as you do not buy/activate more than six tickets during the promotion. Note that it seems that the military will only make the sale at one time. So if you will be buying the tickets on base, but doing more than one trip, you have to purchase all at one time on base only. If the service member is not able to come to WDW, the Spouse is eligible to purchase a total of six tickets. Blockout Dates: All Parks - December 24 - 31, 2012, and March 24 - April 4, 2013. Additionally, the Magic Kingdom only will be blocked out July 4, 2013. Any ticket sold at other than a WDW ticket or Guest Relations window must be activated prior to its use. Name, address, date oif birth, and telephone number must be provided at time of activation or purchase at WDW. A ticket that is either a hopper or has WPF&M can be upgraded for $28 (plus tax) each to add the other option. The service member does not have to be present to do the upgrade. Additionally these tickets may be upgraded to any level of Annual Pass for which the person is eligible (proof of Florida Residency for a Seasonal or Weekday Select Pass or an Annual or Premium at Resident rates). Days beyond four cannot be added to the tickets, and they cannot have the No-Expire Option. Back-to-back use by one person is not allowed. Seven calendar days must separate usages by the same party.

The bolded portion of your post is new for this year's promotion isn't it? I don't remember there being a restriction on the number of times this promotion could be used from years past.

Yes, I'd like to have clarification on that bolded part, too. We sometimes make two trips in the year, and we purchase what we will need for one trip. So, if I'm reading it right, we need to purchase all the tickets we think we might use in that year at one time.

I'm also confused with the ticket purchasing? If you buy your tickets at itt why does Disney care? Especially since there are only two of us that means we can go 3 times next year. Would we have to buy all six tickets at once? What if we didn't use them all?

I have a friend that is 100%, but hasn't gone to a RAPIDS site to get ID yet. He called and asked if his ID would have this status (so he could get tickets) and the RAPIDS person had no idea HOW you get DAVPRM on an ID card. Any advice/info people have on this ID card distinction would be helpful. This discount will make their trip possible and I'd love to help get them there. |

We're ending this oddity of the Oct 2010-Sept 2011 which was extended through Sept 2012.
All previous AFS offers have had an end date and then a new one has started. The current extension caused all different kinds of modifications to what had been the standard. Prior to the "extension" Disney's policy (though not adhered to in the Oct 2010- Apr 2011 timeframe) was that you could only make only one purchase of AFS tickets during the "offer year." The press release today left out a huge amount of detail. I'm set up tomorrow to discus these with one of my Disney contacts. (got a list going...) more to follow. Thanks CF!

CF do you have something that says "Disabled Veterans with a Government ID showing DAVPRM.'?
It wasn't in the press release.

During the present offer those with a military issued ID card (like a retired military ID not a Va card) which grants access to bases and has DAVPRM in the rank block were eligible for the offer. Unfortunately the percentage of disability does not matter in this instance. 100% disabled are eligible for a program at Shades of Green though.

That is only at the military bases. The new tickets cannot be activated at WDW before (and therefore cannot be used before) October First.

Thank you for the information CF! It is still great of Disney to support us, military families.
I am interested in the fact that an individual MWR can set lower prices. Hmm, maybe shopping around is what I will do once I am ready to buy. And the continuing discounts on the hotels is nice too. It may be Disney next year! |

Having to activate all the tickets at once will be tricky for those of us who go multiple times each year and with different people. For example, my daughter and I are planning at least one trip but possibly two. However, my sister, niece and I often go once a year as well. Whose name do I put on the tickets if I'm not sure who we're going with yet? Obviously my daughter and DGD gets first dibs, but what if they can't go twice and I've activated four tickets in their names? How do I then switch one to my niece's name, for example? And my DH currently has an AP, but we'll only renew it if he's doing multiple trips next year, so do we buy and activate one for him just in case he needs it? This is going to be complicated unless you go just once with all 6 people.
Not looking this gift horse in the mouth--they didn't have to give us anything-- but it will be more complicated this way. |
