Cinderella's New Look

Very disappointed that Disney is making these changes to the princess lineup! Belle looks awful, so does Aurora I will not be buying anything with the new looks on them on our trip in October!

I'm okay with the updated hairstyles and dresses, but the facial changes are weird. They look like they've had bad plastic surgery.

I do think it is a bit unusual for Disney to mess with their recipe, but as someone else has mentioned, they don't limit the evolution of their designs for successful characters. In fact, when a character gets a tweak or redesign, that's usually a sign of longevity.

As you can see, the changes are subtle. Mostly with the hair, slight changes in the costumes. This has everything to do with merchandising. How many Cinderella dolls can you sell when they've looked the same for more than 60 years?

What disturbs me is the poses. They are highly sexualized, hips jutted out, posterior out, looking over their shoulder. They all look like they are posing for maxim, and hey all have open mouths, with slightly shaded eyes, an obvious invitation. Thank goodness my daughter does not like the princesses, I would never allow any of this in my house..along with brats, monster high dolls, etc.

This is crazy! Belle now looks like Meg from Hercules! I understand trying to make them look a little SMEXY (that's my 13 yo's word for looking sexy and messed up). Maybe they're trying to capture the teenagers with a sexier look!

Just checked these out in DS.com. Their faces are awful, they look unnatural. Glad I have all the dolls from the Target set and previous DS.com ones.

Exactly!!! They look way too sensual and seductive. Not the wholesome, natural beauties they should be. I am kind of shocked Disney would do this to beloved timeless characters.

My niece received some pajamas with the new Cinderella. I was shocked at how she looked. I guess I prefer the vintage Cindy.

I don't care much for most of the make version. Cindy got the worse although Belle's hair throws me. And Jasmine's hair with the one curl sticking out is driving me crazy. But I will say this, Ariel is great! I love her green dress, her hair is gorgeous, and her earrings are so her! That is the only one that they got right! I'm so glad she's no longer in that pink dress! We've never seen her at Disney in pink, she's either been a mermaid or she's been in the green dress. Green is the better color for her! But a big thumbs down the to rest of them!

So THAT'S why the Disney Princess dolls were marked down over the summer -- they must have been clearing out the older style dolls to make room for the new ones. Glad I stocked up then!

Ariel is the only one that looks like herself, really. I don't mind the new designs if it was for a line, but as a whole revamp of the characters? Not really a fan. Especially if the changes will be reflected in the face characters at Disney. No need to mess with a good thing, in this case.

I actually really like the new designs, the makeup it's a little exaggerated but I like their new hair, plus I believe the previous hairstyles were a little outdated. With this new hairstyle more girls can identify with it, and I'm sure the makeup is to also attract older girls that otherwise might not feel identified with the brand. It's sad to see things go yes, but as someone said longevity comes for changing and adapting to the request of the core consumers.

I'm not sure i WANT my daughter to "identify" with young ladies who wear too much make-up and affect coquettish, overly-sexualized posture.
Are we to expect "duck lips" in the merchandising soon? How about dolls with duck lips and booty-pop poses? "everyone" is doing it...

we were just in toys r' us.. The whole front wall was a HUGE display of new "cinderella" NO! My kids said "who is that? That isn't Cinderella!"

If you ask me, her make up looks a little less done than the old version.. The eyes are not so dark and sultry and her lip stick is more neutral. So I'm wondering if maybe I'm seeing a different "new" version. They've also tuned down the chest area a bit. It is different, but everything changes.. Even the mouse who started it all.

Cinderella always looked like a mature woman to me..
