Brittany & Justin's May 2014 Wishes Wedding

Hello Fellow Disney Brides & Grooms!
I'm fairly new to the boards, but I have been a lurker for quite a while & I love all the advice, information & experiences that you ladies (& occasional guys) have shared. Hopefully my PJ will be helpful to someone, just as yours have been helpful to me.

About Us: I’m Brittany & my fiancé’s name is Justin. We actually grew up in the same town but went to different high schools so we didn’t meet each other until 2007 when he started to work at the same place that I did. We instantly became friends & started to talk more & hang out, but we didn’t start dating until Sept. 10, 2011. We were engaged on July 15, 2012 & hopefully our wedding will be May 21, 2014. I realize that it is fairly early for me to start a PJ but I want to get all my ideas in one place & I would like to get stuff done as early as possible, because if all goes well I will be graduating college two weeks before our wedding. DF doesn’t necessarily mind that I’m planning & starting projects now, but he does keep reminding me that the wedding is a year & a half away lol. His only request so far has been that the wedding be in May, & as a girl that had no clue when I wanted to get married (but I knew where) May was fine with me.
My parents first took me to Disney World when I was 6 & I fell in LOVE with the Wedding Pavilion. I told my parents that ‘I’m going to get married here when I’m older’…now I said that every trip we took there & almost every time we went by it. I go to Disney every year to a year & a half. I did an internship there in 2008 (at the Yacht & Beach Club, merchandise). Disney is my happy place & I could never imagine getting married anywhere else.
Justin took his first trip to Disney World on July 4, 2010 with two of his friends & his dad. They only went for the day & he hated it lol. His friends made it from the front gates to the castle in like 5 seconds (or so I’m told), because they were running everywhere, they left him & his dad behind & met up with them right before the fireworks. Now somewhere during the day he got separated from his dad too so he was basically wandering around the MK by himself looking for the rest of his group, not being able to ride many rides because of the wait times, he did get to ride Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion & The Hall of Presidents. He still complains about all the people from that trip. I talked him into going over Christmas Break in January 2012, he enjoyed it more than the first time he went because 1. I didn’t run everywhere & didn’t act like I was in a hurry to get somewhere & 2. There were a lot less people. We stayed on property at Port Orleans Riverside (one of my favorites); I like to think that staying on property also helped make his second experience better lol. Since that trip I’ve slowly been turning him into a Disney lover, even though I don’t think he will ever love it as much as I do.
Up Next: The Proposal!!!

Yay another Disbride! Welcome!!! Don't worry it is never too early to start your PJ. What are you graduating with a degree for? I actually just graduated (I went back to school because I'm 28) with a degree as an Sonographer (which in other words is an Ultrasound Tech) at the end of March... Now I'm on the job search to hopefully find a job soon so I can help with the wedding $ wise. Sorry to ramble... Can't wait to hear about the proposal!!!

Congrats and welcome!! I got married this past May, and I think it's a pretty good month! Will 5/21/14 fall on Memorial Day Weekend or the weekend before?

I think since you're still in school it's good to have a longer engagement so you'll have time to really have the wedding you want. It's never too early to start planning! Plus, the more you learn about here, the easier things will hopefully be for you! We have a DISbrides group on facebook too, come join us!

Looking forward to more of your plans!

Hey Brittany, congratulations on your engagement!

I think it's a great idea to start your PJ early! That way you can think about the things you want, research how everything works and have time to make plans and figure it all out. I began researching Disney weddings around 6 months before I got engaged (I kinda knew it was coming) and I'm glad I did because then when I got engaged, it felt waaaay less daunting to decide what I wanted and find out if the budget would allow it

You and I seem very similar already! I look forward to following your plans and definitely think a longer engagement is the way to go. It will give you time to get done with school and enjoy planning your wedding without getting too stressed your major sounds awesome by the way! Any ideas what career you want to enter when you graduate?

Thanks! DF saw me looking at something wedding related the other night & told me that there were too many options so I told him I would narrow down what I liked & he could tell me which was his favorite lol. I plan on focusing on children & hopefully taking that to work for Disney....fingers crossed that's what happens anyway lol

The Proposal

While we were there in January we talked about going back in July because he wanted to go to the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona & we could just make a trip down to Disney. In March/April we talked about it again & he mentioned just going to Colorado (I say this lightly because Denver is only 8 hours away from us), after about 2 weeks of going back & forth on where we wanted to go, I finally told DF that he could pick where we went & I would just get in the car & go, he asked if I was sure I was ok with that & I told him I didn’t care where we went so he set off on making reservations & such. On July 4 bright & early (3:30 a.m.) we were off…I fell back asleep pretty much while the car was still in park lol, so I didn’t know where we were headed until about 6ish when we stopped for breakfast. On July 5 we arrived in Daytona, we stayed on the beach which was amazing. We went to the race on July 7 & then just relaxed in Daytona (& on the beach) until July 12.

Us at the beach.

Now during this whole time being in Daytona he had not mentioned going to Disney once! But he kept talking about Miami…so when we left Daytona on the 12th I had no idea where we were headed he put a blindfold over my eyes in order to keep the secret longer. When I was finally told to take my blindfold off we were pulling into Port Orleans Riverside! I was so excited lol, as soon as he parked & I was out of the car I was jumping up & down and squealing (I’m sure people thought I was nuts) but I was just soooo excited! While we were checking in, we were told that we were upgraded to a Princess Suite (it was beautiful) it was only the first day & everything was already amazing…

Our room

DF even made dining reservations for us (sounds small, but normally I’m the Disney planner so this whole thing was a nice treat). We ate at Biergarten on the 13th & then we ate at the Cinderella’s Royal Table on the 14th. He told me after he proposed on the 15th that he was going to do it on the 14th after dinner, fireworks & the electrical parade, he went & asked the photo pass guy how long he would be there (as in that spot) & he told DF that he would be there until midnight, well long story short, we went back around 11:30 & all the photo pass people were gone, so DF was very upset about this because the guy said they would be there until midnight. All he wanted was proposal pictures with as few people as possible (we had just had a conversation about how many pictures other people have taken we would be in as we were looking through our own pictures & seeing all the people in the background lol). On the 15th we went to play mini golf at Fantasia Gardens; then we went to the MK for the rest of the day. He waited until it was dark & as we were headed to Splash Mountain we stopped at one of the photo pass people that was in front of the Crystal Palace, there was absolutely NOBODY around & I casually mentioned that to DF & he was like ‘this is a great place for pictures, we get the castle in the background & no people’ lol. She took a couple pictures then all of a sudden he was down on one knee proposing! I was pretty much in shock but when I looked over at the photo pass lady, I swear everyone in the park was surrounding her watching what was going on. People started yelling Congratulations & random people were taking our picture & she made sure that we had pictures of the whole thing, she even had us re-do some of them just in case lol. I wish I would have looked at her nametag she was really nice & took some amazing pictures of us! Afterwards I was so excited/happy that I barely remember walking the rest of the way to the ride lol. On our way back to our hotel we HAD to stop at City Hall & get the Just Engaged buttons, which we then had to wear the rest of the trip lol.

Us just after the proposal!

Sorry the pictures are so big, photobucket wouldn't resize them correctly, & I figured I was fighting a loosing battle with it lol

That's it, it's decided, we HAVE to be friends I just looked over at my fiance and told her already "I am going to be friends with this girl". We are also getting married in May 2014 :D. I don't think it is too early to start a PJ, I feel like I have half the details planned out already And I live in Denver and I think it was so cool how you mentioned how close it was to you. (And besides, Disney people are the best people )

I ADORE your engagement story, SO pretty!! So many happy surprises!

Subscribing and excited to follow along!

Subbing :-) Your pics won't load for me though :-(

I lived in Daytona Beach for a 3 years while I went to chiropractic school. That's a long trip down I-4 with a blind fold on!
