Mom and I are staying at FQ for the first time in Sept.
I was wondering if we get a water view room, will we be able to hear the boat horn most of the night?

No, you won't hear too much anyway unless you're fairly close to the jetty, but even then last last boats will be done by 11.30pm.

They are not too bad. Most folk have a TV on if and when they are in their rooms making it less likely for them to be disturbed by others. We have stayed at resorts where you can hear it every time someone flushes a toilet, but haven't noticed that at POFQ. Usually by the time we get back to our room we are so tired we shower and go to sleep. And on vacation, someone's children crying (as kids do when they are over tired or over stimulated anyway) really does not bother me at all.

In all fairness, I am pretty sure that we have disturbed people by coming back to our room late at night after late EMH, opening and closing doors, taking a shower ... different noise, but noise nonetheless.

This is your family vacation. I don't think you should worry about it and the fact that you are, shows that you have a lot of consideration for those around you. I think you deserve your break. Just enjoy it x

Thank you so much for your response. We really hope that the girls handle all the excitement & over-stimulation and are able to sleep at night. I'm very sensitive to other people around us. I'd feel horrible knowing my family did something to disturb another family on their vacation. From what you said, it sounds like the walls aren't paper thin.....so I can relax a bit.

To be honest, other than the toilet flushing noise, I tend to find more noise travels down through the ceiling, so if you are concerned about disturbing other guests it might be worth asking for a ground floor room. An outside corner room could also help you a little, as that way there would only be one common wall which adjoins onto another guest's room anyway. Not having a connecting doorway might be a plus too.

A quick fax a few days before you arrive explaining the reason for your requests might help too. But really, I don't think it'll be a major issue, the walls are not exactly paper-thin.

I've been in building 4 several times, building 2 once, and building 3 once. Building 4 is our favorite, but the resort is so small that no room is very far from anything. We also enjoyed buildings 2 and 3.

We've only ever been in end rooms, so I can't speak for a room sandwiched between others, but I can say that we never heard the people next to us at all. What we did hear were people going past our room outside, but never did we hear the people next to us.

We've been on the river twice and the sound of the boats never bothered us at all. We were in Building 5 in 2009 and Building 6 in 2010. I think you might hear more noise if you are in one of the buildings closer to the loading area. I won't say we didn't hear the boats at all, we did hear them, but they were just a noise in the background. If hearing the boats would be a problem, then I'd request Building 5 or 6.

One of the things we noted when we stayed a couple of weeks ago was how little sound we heard. I could not hear the my wife in the shower barely heard the toilet flush.

This is a wonderful thread! We're thinking of staying here in January over the marathon weekend. It'll be our first trip as a family so I have lots to learn! These threads are helping a lot!

(DH went to undergrad in Orlando so spent a lot of time at the parks...but not the resorts. I have been several times in high school/college but always for a specific event at an off-site hotel so this is all new territory!)

We are staying at POFQ from Aug 25-Sept 3 in a King Room. Do you think it would be worth requesting a specific building or is that being too picky?

I'm just worried about the view.

Are the King Rooms generally garden view, lake view, parking lot view? I would love to stay in Building 4 garden view. It is close to the lobby and pool area and from the moment I saw the little street running between Buildings 5 and 4 I fell in love with POFQ. If I'm not mistaken I think it's called Rue D' Baga? It runs parallel to Building 4 and is the first major "street" you intersect if you walk out the back of the lobby area towards the pool.

Ditto Andre.. a corner room is a great idea. We had one at ASMo on our last trip and I think it helped not having someone on one side of us. My son has a speech delay and sometimes can get overstimulated too which affects his sleep and then it throws us into this vicious cycle so I totally understand where you are coming from there. As others have said, you are very considerate to be thinking of it ahead of time. I hope your vacation is all you dreamed it to be!!
Oh and I found that my son was so enthralled and engaged with everything that he was wiped out at the end of the day.. we didn't really have any sleeping issues at all.
