"Finished last" is better than "did not finish" which trumps "did not start." |

No worries. This is a great place to do the 5k. There is no time limit. They have you sign in and cast members wait until everyone is done. Very low key. Lots of fun and a disney finishers "medal".
I had back surgery and did the castaway cay 5K just 3 1/2 months after. Good luck |

I just did this on the August 5th dream sailing and it was a lot of fun. We met at the 687 lounge at 8:30, signed in, and were off the ship by 8:45.
Goofy came outside to do some stretches and take a picture but then quickly returned to the ship. The CM who was leading us had us walk to the start but I've heard others sometimes take the tram. It takes about 15 minutes to get there. At the start line they had a trunk to drop our stuff off which I used for my backpack. There also is a large map which they used to describe the race route. I'm happy to report that there is now is a race clock to keep track of everyone's time! Once the race started I found it easy to follow the course even though I was in the lead. The biker who starts with you only leads for the first quarter mile so you have to follow the markings afterwards. It is possible to get lost still though if you don't listen to the CM's instructions however. It was very hot and there was plenty of water along the course. I didn't bother with those because of the rule on disposing of cups. After the race I grabbed my bag, refilled my water bottle at the water station, and then headed down to the beach. What I found was that it's really easy to just wash off the sweat in the ocean and carry a change of clothes with you. Overall plenty of fun and I'd do it again. I finished in 3rd place (20:08) oh well I guess that's what you get for roaming the ship till 3 am and having 2 desserts the night before :lmao Lastly I did not receive any gift in my stateroom after the race. It appears that they do not do that anymore. |

I have "just walked" it twice and never felt out of place. Many of the other participants offered words of encouragement along the way. That really helps keep you going in that heat. So go ahead walk it and have a good time.

I did this on the Aug. 1 Dream sailing and got the plastic finisher's "medal" but no certificate. Got the medal right after I completed the run. I'm glad I did it, but it was kind of boring - same scrubby scenery the whole time and no views of the ocean or any other parts of the island, really. I wrote a review of it in a blog post I did last week - blog address in my signature.

We did this in May '12 on the Dream on a Saturday. We got finisher "medals" at the end of the race, and the certificates came to our stateroom that night (which was also the last night of the cruise). (They had our stateroom number from when we signed up in 687 before the race in the morning.) As far as the T-shirts, we bought ours as soon as the race was over, because we were worried about sizes, which seem to be uni-sex. I think we were able to get a S and M, and they seemed to have the full compliment of sizes at that point. (We finished in about 30 minutes.) We were able to leave our bag of stuff in a trunk by the bicycle rentals, and we just changed into our swimsuits after grabbing a drink at Cookies Too. We just rinsed in the ocean, as there aren't private showers.

They did seem to have a pretty good range on the shirt sizes. I'm kind of a big beefy guy, so XL was available - and its what I wanted. But, yeah they did seem to have a good range of sizes, and its a nice shirt. Chest imprint, back graphic, and the cruise logo on the sleeve. A great memento from my jog on Castaway Cay ! |

I walked it on our June /July cruise.
I did feel a little bit of pressure to finish quickly as I was the only one walking, but people were very encouraging along the way (the CMs also). A few of the joggers who finished before me actually waited at the finish line which was great (whether that was intentional or not- they might have just been recovering ), as my family were all on excursions. It took me 48 minutes to walk it, and boy was it hot. I didn't want to go back to the ship, so I changed into my suit and jumped right in the water. I got a medal, but no certificate. The shirts were limited to M and XXL. I was told they restock when the Dream comes, so there may be a better selection on those cruises. You have a few minutes before the start, so you may want to grab one then and store it with your stuff. |

Would someone please post a picture of the shirt.
Deciding if I should send DH to buy me one while I am running.
