Thanks! Well, I'm 38 yrs. old and I decided in 2010 that I was going to start running and ran my first half in WDW the Inaugural Wine and Dine. I also did the Princess half a year later. Other than that I catch a 5K here & there. I live in Louisiana so I obviously LOVE heat & humidity [insert sarcasm]. I'm also a social worker and I love to travel whenever I have the time...and the money!
I am registered for the TOT 10 mile race and it looks like this will be my first solo trip to the World since all my running friends make little comments about how expensive Disney is when I mention the race . So I'm a little nervous about being on my own in the parks but hopefully it will work out. Anyway, everyone here seems to be really supportive. Not to butt in on the group but I thought it might help in preparing for another race. Oh, I'll be doing the Louisiana Half Marathon in January too

Wendy-guess you're a pro already with the accomplishments done. Being in the Parks on your own could be a fun thing because you can zip around at will, or not. Got to love the summer training in the heat and humidity to have a really good time at the ToT 10 miler. While others complained about the weather last year, I took the opportunity to stop off at McDonald's for my cold and yummy M&M McFlurry. Super good but didn't last too long because of the heat.

Welcome again!!!
I went to ToT by myself last year. Sadly it's not in the cards this year. I had such a blast even if the race was hot. Having the food and wine festival at the same time was such a bonus.

Wendy- I've been to Disney several times mainly to FL, but once to California. Like John said, it can be fun being able to pick your own schedule. I wouldn't worry too much, Disney is a fairly safe place. The being said, watching yourself is always a good idea.

Jim - I'll agree that we all seem to do things that are a little big stupid at times.

AFM - I haven't heard anything yet on the bike. But, I don't know when they get deliveries. The weather here has been crazy. We had frost warnings one day, then a couple of days later it's in the 80's. I got out Wednesday evening for a 3 mile run/walk. Even though the weather was warm, it seems to be getting easier again. I'm trying to keep it at a nice easy pace so the knee doesn't flare up. Also on Wednesday I went to the Dr. for the monthly weigh in and BP check to get the diet meds refilled. According to his scales, I'd lost 23lbs this month. I didn't have it being quite that big. It was about 10lbs the first weeks on a whole pill but because of side effects I cut it back to half a pill after that. The Dr. seemed pleased but a couple of things he wanted me to do makes me wonder if he's wanting continuing large numbers.

Edited to add. Shortly after posting this I called and found out my bike would be ready about 5:00. The LBS is about 1.5 miles away so I decided to walk down and ride the bike back. This evening I went to Kmart and they had a variety of accessories on deep discount. I bought a U-lock and Cable lock for $4.50 each and a head/tail light for $7.00. It was $35 off the regular price. I just ordered a bike helmet from Amazon. None of the helmets at the LBS seemed to fit quite right.

johde~ congrats on the bike I hope you have only successful rides. I'm glad the knee and weight are behaving as well

Wendy~ welcome (again did I say Welcome once already?) anyway, I started running in my late 40's with some Disney friends who wanted to do the Disney races, then decided they had gotten too expensive so I'm sorta on my own too for those- except, my daughters have started running so mostly I "do Disney" with them. I agree with the previous posting though about being on your own at Disney isn't so bad (I've done it a day or 2 but never much beyond that but for a race especially if you aren't spending a lot of time it should be fun.)

As for me, I'm getting back into the running groove post Indy. I want to take it slow since I don't have a race in the near future, closest is a 5K Color Me Rad in August. Looks like I'll be spending at least a couple of weeks in Florida in June (Bonita Springs) with my dad while DH is away on business so early runs will be the requirement there.

I hope everyone is running safe- have a great weekend!

Jeremy - Hooray for the new bike!

Pam - I should look for more fun 5k races to do with my family...

I've lost my motivation. My foot is still nagging a bit which I've used for an excuse. Truthfully I've just been exhausted and I'm struggling to get myself to run.

jeremy OOOOOHHHHH the bike's arrived.... and it came with presents! (well you bought them, but that's not the point!). Hope you get out on it soon and fall in love

Wendy my word you are a seasoned racer! I'm doing wine and dine for the first time this year so any tips on racing late would be appreciated. It's lovely to have you here and thanks for the intro. Not sure if ours are still around anywhere, but if you want to know anything then just ask

Amanda sorry your foot's nagging, that's not an excuse! If it's sore, then it's sore! Can you rope in a friend or go for an exploring run without a watch to just get out for some time? I've found that once I'm out of the door then I'm on the way and feeling better. Down time is fine though, never feel guilty for that !!!!!

Pam agh the colour me rad races look awesome! What do they throw at you? Is it actually paint? Glad you're back into the swing of things so quickly.

McFlurry John I thought of you today as we passed a McDonald's after my race.... Made me giggle thinking of you having one mid event

Me Out running a fair as work is getting stressful. I'm not sure what I'd do without my trainers at times like these.... the piano doesn't really do it! Any way... had a 10k today and PRd!!!!!! It was a lovely day, sort of 13oC so mild with some cloud cover and pretty still. The course was very windy so you were never far from the headquarters where are the crowds were. Finished it in 49.09 according to Garmy (previous fastest was 3 years ago 50:55). Haven't had official times yet. There were a few times I had that nagging voice 'just walk for a bit to get your breath' but I'm proud to say I overcame it! Really struggle with that usually. So I'm not sure if it was the nice course, slightly angry running or my magical running shoes, but something worked today. Race evidence for W&D done

John VN- That's awesome, ice cream while running When you live in humidity it makes 10 p.m. races at Disney seem like a breeze!

SmileyK8- Thanks for the welcome! And congratulations on your great 10k PR! I don't know that I'd call myself a seasoned runner...sometimes I don't know if I'd even call myself a runner lol. I'm slow and my goal is usually just to finish but I'm happy with it as long as I don't get swept!

Hi all.

Wendy - I think most of us at times have trouble putting a name to what we do, whether it be "a runner" or "an athlete". It sounds like you've decided the same thing I did. It just doesn't matter.

Kate- Nice job on the 10K- PR.

Amanda - I know the feeling. Unfortunately it took a good 50lbs (and spring didn't hurt) before I started back up again. If you haven't already, get into to doc to see what they say. I should have gone back sooner but my knee only really bothered me significantly when I worked out.

AFM - I got out today for me first "serious" bike ride on the new bike. Yesterday, I installed the new accessories as well as the seat pack from my old bike. I did 7 2/3 miles at about 11mph. That's quite a bit better than the 4 miles at 8.5-9.0 mph on the old bit. I do feel the road more on the new bike. I've got at least a few more things I want to do but so far she's looking pretty good.

Jeremy-Great looking bike. Lots of luck and fun riding.

When you return to the bike shop, you might have them tilt the brake levers down a bit to line up with the natural way you hold onto the bars when seated in the most comfortable cycling position. This will allow a more efficient use of your hands for braking and the shift levers should be more comfortable. Having your wrists more in line with your hands and forearm is usually more comfortable. The rear wheel quick release lever could be in line with or slightly back of the seat-stay. Of course toe clips or cleated shoes/pedals will make a BIG difference in pedalling efficiency. ENJOY!!!!

Wendy-that cold ice cream and chocolate sure helps take the mind off of the task at hand.

Kate-marvelous, simply marvelous darling

Amanda-we don't need no stinking motivation. Just get out there and let your mind roam free while exercising.

Pam-definitely use the Fl. weather for a good excuse to run.

Jim-IM 70.3 FL was GREAT! Sorry you couldn't make it. Nothing like getting kicked, clawed and assaulted when swimming. A lesson for sure. Most likely to be back next year. Good luck with the body.

John - Thanks for the wishes. Saw your results. Very impressed I am. Hopefully next year. The next 5-6 weeks is going to give me many answers, probably ones that I don't want, but it is what it is................ FYI My part-time next door neighbor in Celebration is a big-time FULL IM Age Grouper. He told me once he has NEVER left the water NOT bleeding. The nice thing about to 70.3's is that at least it is a wave start........

Jeremy - Very. Nice. Wheels. Hope you have lotsa' fun miles coming........

Katie - NICE time on the 10K. I could take you. Not. To prepare for the W&D I recommend you find a spa with treadmills in the saunas. In November it's not QUITE as bad as earlier, but to prepare for heat & humidity is a wise thing. HOPEFULLY I'll be there. I should have definitive answers by the end of June. The ToT is most likely wasted $$$ now...............

AFM - I have done NO-THING in the last week. A combination of disappointment, bad weather (today), scheduling, and, most importantly, LAZINESS. But tomorrow.....TOMORROW back at it. No. Matter. What.

Ya'll rock!! Stay safe and keep at it!!

At the Color me Rad races they (at least at the one I did) have 3 dry colors (colored corn starch, all natural and safe) and 2 "wet" colors- basically sprayed with a lawn type weed sprayer. When we ran purple, pink, and blue were dry and green and yellow were wet.

We still have to figure out how to keep the color in our shirts, so far we've tried Vinegar and water soak, and a salt water soak.

AFM I'm just doing some short runs (3-4 miles), and doing X-Fit for cross training.

pam I always wondered how the paint worked! Thank you I would have thought salt would fix it or Dylon die fix (not sure you have that there though). Would be a lovely memento. Don't envy you for crossfit!

Jim I hope you're feeling better and I really hope that you get some clear answers super soon. Did you get back at it? Sending you positive bouncy vibes to help along the way

John Ergh being beaten to bits in the water does not sound fun. I can't even handle getting water in my nose Well done on the 70.3! You are one of the true warrior legends!

Jeremy your new bike is speedy!!!! Glad you like it and it's already yielding great results. Is it a good or bad thing to feel the road more? I'm not sure as I mostly cycle in the gym!!!

Me nothing massively exciting, few 3 milers and planning to head out for some speed work tomorrow.

AFM-update.....Parathyroid tumor seen and should not be a problem to take out BUT , HUGE GOITER with left thyroid lope and swollen enough to be blocking air passageway. Dr. was talking about taking out entire thyroid and meds. for life.

My friend/Dr. spoke to ENT about removal because she is not liking the idea since I am so hyper-active. She suggested I start taking ONE DROP OF LIQUID IODINE in a glass of water per day....wow it has turned me around. Started to feel better later the first day and slept right through the night which is something I haven't done in a long time. Woke up feeling almost no pain and feeling energized. Three days since I started the iodine and still doing much better.

HERE is the kicker.....we have been on a low sodium diet, i.e. I do not add extra salt when cooking so we DO NOT get enough iodine in our diet from iodized salt or other sources. LOW or NO IODINE causes thyroid issues such as GOITER, weakness, pain, heart issues and many more things. Introducing the iodine back into diet might shrink the goiter so entire thyroid does not have to come out. Surgery is set for 6/21 so we shall see.

Train smart and stay healthy ALL.
