Wendy-come right in and stay awhile

Jeremy-someone will always say you're paying for the name but Trek is very good.

John - I know, the other thing I'm looking at is people seem to be willing to pay for the name on the other end. When I was looking at Craigslist there weren't many Trek's in my area and the ones I called about were already gone.

I have an almost 20 year old Trek 720 that is still my preferred bike (I have an almost new Cannondale Quick 4 as well, but it doesn't get nearly the same use). The older one is much heavier than my newer bike, but the components are overall better and I just feel more comfortable riding it. If the new ones are anywhere near the same quality as the old, then it's definitely worth it!

Trek has always maintained excellent quality throughout the line which is why the bikes retain value. As I mentioned, it would be my choice.

Six days until IM 70.3 FL and my body is not happy because of hyperparathyroidism. Visit to ENT today and hopefully the situation will be resolved in a couple of weeks but in the meantime this weakness and pain is not a good thing. Very good friend and my Dr. is concerned about my race on Sunday, so much so, that she asked me to re-consider doing it. Promised her I would take things very easy so no stressing myself.

BTW-my new Giant Propel SL3 bicycle is super fast. Just won't be able to get the most out of it this weekend.

I ended up going to the LB S and ordering the Trek 7.2 in Matte Black. It should be ready Friday or Saturday.

Welcome Wendy! We're happy to have you join us!!!!

Pam - That's a big race!
Sarah - Congrats on your half! Great to make a friend, too.
Jim - Sorry you're skipping the Tri but sounds like you're making a good decision. Glad you enjoyed the cruise.
John - Take care of yourself and be smart!
Jeremy - CONGRATS on the new bike!!!

I'm still running.
Almost definitely going to sign up for the NYC Marathon as a charity runner. Waiting for a more complete list of charity options before I register. In the meantime I signed up for another round of e-coaching with Jeff Galloway. Working on getting faster.
Sadly, my next Disney race isn't until January when I'm doing the 10k (with the husband - yay!) and the full marathon. Skipping the fall races because we're taking the family to Hawaii for Thanksgiving. It'll be the first major holiday without my mom so we're taking my step-dad and meeting my sister in Hawaii. My brothers aren't coming for various reasons. I'm super excited! We do have a Disney trip in late August.
Hoping to also run the Glass Slipper Challenge. Need to finalize that with my husband as I think it'll sell out quickly. My eldest and my husband may run the 10k with me (my son will turn 10 right before the race).

"Wow"

That's the word the PA at the Dr's Office used when she looked at the MRI of my back yesterday.

After that she used a lot of "Doctor Talk", but basically it comes down to misaligned vertebra (by about 9 mm), an L3-L4 disc that is severely herniated and impinging on some nerves on the right side (which makes sense based on my S/S).

First course of treatment is going to be a spinal steroid injection (which, based on my recent medical history, I know will NOT be successful), afterwards to progress (most likely) to a partial discectomy (which will put me off the job for 3 months.....................!!! >:-( ), and if that is not successful, installation of some supporting superstructure (Envision the launch gantry for the space shuttle welded onto your spinal column.....ugh, ugh & TRIPLE ugh!).

The positive is that at least I did not get a "lets go straight to a spinal fusion" answer, and that, IF I have to go to the full route of treatment, it will not impact my lifestyle (will still be able to run, bike and frolic as I see fit to do).

Just have to figure out the timing though. I've got a bunch of stuff coming up in the next few months. Most likely I'll put off any surgery until next February (barring an acute change of symptoms). After Disney race (only doing the new 10k this year) & the new Celebration 1/2 Marathon a couple of weeks after that & before a scheduled Alaska cruise in late May.

Sooooooooooooo, (along with getting a cancerous chunk of my face cut off Monday), that's how my week has been.

How's ya'll been??

Jeremy - I have a Trek, and am really satisfied with the quality and performance. I think you will be very happy with your choice.

Kate - Glad to see you're back into the races. Hopefully we'll meet up at the W&D.

Amanda - Sounds like you have a full plate in the next few months. NYC sounds great. That one, Chicago & the MCM are my bucket list for marathons. Have fun in Hawaii!!

John - Have fun in Haines City. I'm going down on Friday to get my $200 shirt and turn my chip back in. And if I remember correctly, there is not a McDonalds anywhere on the course, so no McFlurry's this time!!

Ya'll have a GREAT time!!

Oh no Jim! I'm sorry that you're likely going to the surgery route. Good luck with the skin/face surgery this week (basal cell?).

Sorry to hear about your troubles Jim. I'll try to remember to keep you in my prayers. Just don't do anything too stupid between now and when you schedule the surgery.

Amanda - Good luck training for NYC. Glad to hear Jeff's E-Coaching is working out so well for you.

John - Thanks for your mind thoughts!! Take it easy on Sunday. It's a fun course. ESPECIALLY the second half of the bike . The first 1/2 of the bike is faaaaaaaaaaaaast!!

Jeremy - Me? Not do anything stupid? Puh-lease!! That is my middle NAME!!

Being the stubborn guy I am, I am committed (or maybe I SHOULD be.....) to not changing a thing until it is absolutely unavoidable. Still running (7 miles yesterday, 5 today), still biking (but on my fat tire bike instead of the Tri bike for a few days), hope to increase my swimming & still hitting the gym (but not lifting anything over my head).

Hopefully there will be NO surgery, but frankly I'm not confident of this. Being put to sleep and having sharp knives taken to my back frankly scares the piss out of me. But my DW fears that if the condition progresses more it could compromise right leg function. The Dr's office kinda' insinuated that if I start to get numbness in my legs (none yet fortunately) it has gone from an annoyance to much worse. So I'm hopefully going to avoid that (says the guy that just said he wasn't changing lifestyles....... )

Wendy - Welcome to our fun-filled group! To quote Stitch (sort of):

"This is our family........... Is little, and broken (literally!!!!!), but still good. Yeah, still good."

Jim - You're afraid of people like me??? You don't trust someone like ME to take a knife to you???
Numbness in the leg is bad so try to pay attention to that....

John - GOOD LUCK this weekend!!! Better you than me!

I'm taking today off. I got up early enough to run before work but my foot is bothering me where I had the metatarsal injury in December. So I'm taking a rest day and going to the Yankee game after work. Tomorrow is another day...

Jim- sorry you have had to have cells removed, scars are all the rage....all the cool kids have them very much looking forward to meeting you at W&D.

Wendy- wahoo, welcome! I'm sad to admit jim's quoting of stitch was pretty accurate! It's going to be lovely getting to know you. Do tell us more about yourself if you feel comfy to

Amanda- glad to read you're taking care of your foot. So thrilled that you're going to run NYC. What an amazing experience that will be.

John- not happy to hear there's lots of concern about your health, but trust that you'll be very careful. You are our most sensible leader! Ha.

Jeremy- the bike is getting closer!!!!!

Me- so proud of my friend, she ran solidly for an hour to tonight. I love seeing people progress and realise they CAN run!
