Staying outside of Disney resorts...marathon weekend.

For those of you who stay outside of Disney during the marathon weekend in January...how do you get to the race start area? Do most of you rent a car, hire a taxi or can you use the Mears shuttle service to and fro?

Only once have I stayed off site. We rented a house in Windsor Hills. But I just had my husband drive and drop me off. There was quite a line of traffic for parking at Epcot, but not enough to cause you to be late to the start. If memory serves, (this was 2011) I think we left the house around 4AM. Pretty sure I was standing around bored and freezing in the corral before 5AM. There were separate traffic lines for parking and drop off. And it may have even been further divided with the drop off line for those in taxis.... I can't really remember anymore, but I do remember seeing taxis.
Not sure if that helps much but it was my experience!

Thanks. Someone I know is interested in doing something during marathon weekend and was looking into less expensive hotels.

As for myself, I prefer to just stay in Disney and make life easy for myself...however you do have to book early enough to get the better priced hotel deals.

We stayed at Windsor Hills this year and went all three days to the races. All of us went for the 5k, so we parked the car and all piled in afterward.

For the half, same thing (though I had to drive since DH couldn't manage it).

For the full, DH dropped me and my coach off. Drop off was pretty easy.

We left the house every time by 4am, it was really quick to get to Epcot. And we loved the house for the 7 of us, it worked out so well.
