As usual they are awesome pics. I love white flowers. Sculputers are amazing. I would love to do that to the back yard we have but its an apartment and I am not going to invest in their property. Looks like you were enjoying yourself. Thanks for posting for everyone to share.

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 2012

If its March in Melbourne, it must be time for the International Flower and Garden Show.

Seems like only yesterday or last year that I started this thread and it looks like it is time to update it for this year's showing (2012).

To those that are looking at this for the first time, welcome.
To those that are repeat offenders, welcome back and I hope you'll stop by to say hello as well.

This year's show, as last year's, was held in the Royal Exhibition Gardens. The Gardens are part of this building, the Royal Exhibition Building....

As with every time I head into this building, I keep trying to improve on my internal shot of that dome.

The building hosts the Flower part of the show.
I headed here on a Thursday, day 2 of the 5 day Show and got here at around 10.30 am. This is the crowd that was there already.

And from the other end...

Doesn't anyone WORK any more???

These pictures are taken to provide some scale to the following pictures of the flowers to follow.

The stand space is pretty large.

You know..I don't think I made it to this section of the building...

From the ground level...

The Royal Exhibition Gardens is barely 5 minutes walk from the city. It pretty much hugs one corner of Melbourne.

By the time 2 pm came round, there was still a crowd outside.

Not as bad as on the Saturday of last year...but I still repeat my question.....
Don't these people work???

The International Flower Part.....

Florists, professional and of the student variety, have been busy this year. As with last year, hot house exotics were in rage.

Anyone else see the colour trend??

Yup. Sure seems like ORANGE was the new Black for flowers.

Take a look down the Grower's Avenue...

African Daisies....

Alstroemeria, one of my favourite flowers...and the orange was gorgeous.

St John's Wort

Orchids...orange!

Flower Power Competitions

This year's entries for the Flower Dressing competition looked like this.

3rd place went to the Bride of Dracula and garlic!

2nd Place was the Tribal bride

I LOVED the details here!

1st place was the Bride of the Dead

Definitely more orange....literally!

The Student competition was also inspiring...

...and it seems like that there was a citrus themed competition as well.

3rd Place.

2nd Place.

1st Place.

And there was a section dedicated to flower centrepieces. I'm not sure who won, but I liked these.

The Outdoor Room

I spent some time talking with the people of this garden. The founder of this small charity quit the corporate world and spends her time raising money to build this structure and garden in a very poor section in North India. Harsh winters and even harsher summers.

Whilst I can't see this in my garden, I take my hat off to her. I'm not sure I could do what she does however much I wish I could.

On with the Show!
There has been a bit of rain in Melbourne in the last year and the trend for plants was heading more towards the water thirsty variety. Despite this, I still liked the concepts for this year's Outdoor Rooms.

Okay....maybe the attraction for the above garden is not really the garden.....but......

My grandparents had chairs like these!

The few exceptions included (native) drought tolerant plants....

I actually liked the texture of the banksia with the chinese anemone....

Much as I enjoy the show gardens, I think I prefer these gardens more...

Why? I can definitely see concepts of these gardens in my own.

Check them out.

...and fun!

I loved this concept of using the old pallets like this!

For Sale!

What would any show be without promoters and people selling stuff?

I tend to look at the flowers myself....and it would seem that ORANGE was also popular outside with the nursery suppliers.

I'm not sure that I like this shade of orange in the petunia.

But the rest....were lovely.

Orange dominated included Dahlias....

And Vegetables were still in vogue.

That about covers it for this year.

Hope you enjoyed it. See you next year!

Thank you for taking the time to post these gorgeous pictues.

The Cincinnati horticultural society again has said that they don't have the money to put on a F&G show this year.

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 2013

If its March in Melbourne, guess what time it is? The International Flower and Garden Show 2013.

Guess what time of year it is? Seems like Iím getting to do this on an annual basis!!

To those that are looking at this for the first time, welcome.
To those that are repeat offenders, welcome back and I hope you'll stop by to say hello as well.

Our venue, as always, is the Royal Exhibition Building.

As with every time I head into this building, I keep trying to improve on my internal shot of that dome. This year, I decided for a different viewpoint.

The building hosts the Flower part of the show.

I headed here on Sunday, day 5 of the 5 day Show and got here at around 10.30 am. This is the crowd that was there already.

Iím definitely going to do a non-weekday next year, if I can.

Entry fee has gone up somewhat this year. The family ticket is $55. Seems like it was $45 a couple of years ago.

I started with the DressFood displays this year.

Anyone else think the standard this year was the most consistent in the last 3 visits? I certainly did!

Down Flower Growerís Lane, orange was the new Black last yearÖand the theme seems to have continued this year; only a shade lighter into the Apricots.

There was even the barest touch of apricot blush even in the orchids.

I spent a lot of time in the hall this year Ė more than in previous years. So, a lot of pictures are of the floral arrangements.

There were a number of competitions on display. The studentís theme was Pretty in Pink and these were the top 3.

The pink flamingos came up on top!

I also enjoyed looking at the professional arrangements.

The Grand Prix was in town the previous weekend. There were still the lingering reminders.

A couple of the arrangements caught my eye with a musical theme.

The display stands were a little disappointing this year and I missed the whackiness. Understatement was in vogue.

I couldnít resist this one.

And there were a couple that stood out in the muted understatements.

There were a lot more vase displays than I remembered from previous years. For me, some of these were absolutely stunning!

Vera Bradley Ė Eat your heart out!

And letís not forget that itís nearly Easter.

The table decorations were upstairs. Fantastic to look at; but Iím not sure that I would have many of these at my table. Call me strange but I like to have space for food; and to be able to see my dining companions.

This was the winner of this category.

We even had our very own Tree of Life.

Letís just send in the clowns, shall we?

StillÖ.there were some arrangements that I loved.
