Calling all Italians, Sausage & Peppers???

Hi everyone,
My husband loves sausage and peppers. I have never made them and was wondering how to make them. I know that it can't be as easy as throwing some sausage and peppers in an oven and baking, so what else do I put in there???? What temp and for how long???

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jenny

This is the way I do it:

1 (12-ounce) package of Italian sausage you can cut into 1inch rounds or leave whole
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 large yellow onion, peeled and sliced about 1/4-inch thick
1 large green bell pepper, cored, seeded and sliced about 1/4-inch thick
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon minced garlic

Directions
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, place the sausages and cook, stirring, until well browned, about 6 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Add the olive oil to the fat remaining in the pan and when hot, add the onions, bell peppers, oregano, salt, and pepper, reduce the heat to medium, and cook, stirring, until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized, about 15 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant and soft, 1 minute. Return the sausages to the pan and cook, stirring, until warmed through and well blended, 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.

Thanks for the recipe. I knew that there had to be other ingredients, but didn't know what. I plan on making this for New Years Eve.

This is how we make them in our family.

Italian sausage (I use a mix of sweet & hot)
Onions
peppers (I mix red & green)
garlic
olive oil
marinara sauce

I par boil the sausage until they are almost cooked and then slice into rounds (some people slice longways or leave them whole) and brown in a bit of olive oil; remove to a plate & keep warm. Then I saute some sliced onions and peppers in a bit of olive oil until wilted then add sliced or minced garlic. Cook until softened. Add the sliced sausages and a bit of marinara sauce (how much depends on how soupy you like it, we don't like too much sauce). Mix well, cover and cook until heated thru . My family likes this on a roll, but I like it over rice.

DH & I use the quick & easy team effort, sans marinara sauce.

DH begins parboilling whole sausage in a deep skillet and uses the gas grill to brown the sausages.

I take over the warm skillet, add equal parts olive oil & butter, add chopped green pepper and saute a bit - then add chopped onions & seasoning salt until both are equally wilted (I always find green pepper takes longer).

I make sausage, peppers and onions frequently. I think a lot has to do with the type of ingredients used. I go to an Italian grocery store to buy the sausage. I have tried sausage from places like BJs, Sam's, etc., but it is definitely not the same. I use a little olive oil to cook the ingredients. I fry the sausage first, then add the sliced peppers and sweet onions. I use red, yellow or orange peppers as I find them to be sweeter and better tasting than green peppers.

Yes you do bake them in the oven..cut the sausages in 3's, chop an onion, add the peppers only red, yellow or orange green is very hard so never use, sometimes I add a couple of potatoes cut up, add olive oil some salt and pepper and garlic power or chopped garlic mix it all in a big bowl throw in a throw away pan if you have, cover cook at 400 for about 45 min uncover add more olive oil if needed stir cook 15 min or more till done, sometimes I add some of my sauce I have made or a can of crushed tomatoes and cook the same. I have been making it this way for 20 years and everyone wants to eat at my house..mama mia..best you ever had ..? please ask..marianne
