adult ordering off of child menu?

I was looking at the menus at Blue Bayou, and I don't think DS14 or DD11 would like anything off the adult menu, but would like something off the kids menu. can they order off the kids menu? And for that matter, could I order something off the kid menu instead of the adult menu?

A few friends of mine tried this at Cafe Orleans since they were picky eaters, they got the food they asked for but were charged almost twice the amount of the children's meal as it was an "adult sized" portion.

I wish ALL restaurants would let you do this. I simply can't eat a whole portion and it's such a waste to me of both money and food. When my nephew was little he and I used to switch meals because he could eat an adult portion and then some when he was 5, while I have never been able to eat much at one sitting. Unfortunately, most restaurants will not let an adult order off the kids' menu without paying full price. I've never tried at BB, though. I often order kid meals when it's a take-out situation, but at sit-down places I'm usually stuck. If I can, I will share a meal with a member of my party, but you have to be with someone who wants to share and who wants the same thing you do.

OK, so I understand that I can't order off the adult menu, but what about my kids, 11 & 14. would they be able to, with kid prices?

I have my kids 11 and 13) order off the kid's menu. I was charged the kid's menu price. BUT I think I will be pushing it with the 14 year old (she will be 14 the next time we go). She is getting too tall and when I go this Friday, I think that will be the time I will be told "no". I will probably ask for substitutions for what she does not like. We are eating at the Blue Bayou (her birthday). I will probably be stuck with ordering from the Adult menu, and will have to waste some food (I hate doing that). I may look at the possibility of just ordering a soup or something small and eating what she doesn't like or finish. I doubt that I will have much of a choice at the Blue Bayou. They may not have an a la carte menu.
My 11 year old is on the smaller side, I have another year or so with her to order from the kid's menu.

My husband and I usually split meals at the table service restaurants and then at counter service I always order the kids meals. When we split meals we feel we can justify an appetizer, meal, and dessert! I rather pay the split charge bc it is still a better deal and the right amount of food.

You have to specify that you want the child's portion and not the doubled portion.

You can all order off the kids menu. Trust me, I do it all the time. You just have to specify that you want the child's portion and not the doubled portion. DD13 doesn't like anything on the adult menu at CO but DBF and I love it there so we will go and she orders the child's portion from the kids menu, and yes, we tell them "she is 13 but she doesn't want anything from the adult menu, she wants the child's portion on the child's menu" and we are taken care of. We do tip a little larger tho because the server should be tipped on what the bill "should" be. For you, yes you can order from the child's menu but you should get it doubled and pay the extra. At CO specifically I'll order the salad and gumbo, DBF orders the Monte Cristo, he has a few bits of my soup and I have a couple bites of his MC, works out great. Oh and we always have the Pomme Frites!! YUM!

it seems to be hit and miss with Blue Bayou, when my son was 10 they said he had to order off the adult menu. He had no choice. Now we do the split plate charge and share a Monte Cristo sandwich and each get our sides so we end up with just the right amount for us.

Unfortunately, you were misinformed.

The only time at Disneyland where an adult cannot order off kids "menu" is at all-you-can-eat establishments.

An adult can order off the toddler menu if they really wanted to.

One must always be sure to specify the kids menu portion in certain cases where the kids and adult menus overlap.

Really??!! I've been told on several occasions (not just at DL) that I cannot order off of the kids menu--they often list an age range for it. Is it a law or something that anyone can order from it? And if so, can they charge more if you are an adult, even if the portion size is the child's?

No business can refuse to allow you to order off the children's menu. A business is allowed to charge you a different price, but not refuse the actual item.

Disneyland, however, enforces no restrictions at all.
