How crowded is the week of MLK day?

I know MLK day would be crowded (January 18th 2010), but is the whole week really crowded?
Is the whole week considered a holiday rate or value?
Where can i find a chart with that?
Thanks.

You can check www.touringplans.com But you will need to subscribe or have the latest Unofficial guide book. I just checked for you and right now it says mostly 5 & 6 during the week (out of 10) and 7 &8 during the weekend. Hope this helps.

Is a 5 and 6 good? Does that mean the week itself is not crowded?
What about the week before (10-16th) is it much less crowded?
Thanks.

We were there this year, arrived on MLK day. It was great - no crowds. However, that week was REALLY cold. Our first two days (Tues-Wed) were in the 40's with over 20 MPH winds. We had to wear winter coats and still our ears and noses were FREEZING.

However, you could practically walk onto everything. It started to get busy by the end of that week, then was busier the last week of January. No one can say if this affected it, but the Super Bowl was in Tampa in 2009, so we know we saw lots of folks with Steelers and Cardinals jerseys on!

Afternoon parades were 1 deep! It was busier during Spectro nights, since those were only a couple times a week.

I absolutely recommend that week. We're going back in 2010! See you there.

We were there from the Friday before MLK to the Friday after. I found the crowds to be bad, due mainly to the huge tour groups that were there. I witnessed several near fist fights at the Fastpass lines at RnR and TSM due to tour guides with stacks of tickets the size of several card decks. I came home two days early (I was supposed to stay thru the weekend) because the parks were not fun due to the tour groups and the weather was really not warm enough to swim or lie by the pool.

Interesting. How do you each have total different opinions on this week. One person is saying you can walk on to everything, the other person is saying how bad the crowds were. I am so confused! :-)

1). Everybodys perceptions are different
2). Alot depends on which park you are in on a particular day

One thing I can say for sure is that the weather is a complete toss up & will very possibly be 50 one day & 70 the next.

5 or 6 is pretty good. The lowest I've seen is a 4. The week before is the same, 5-7. The only 8 for either week is the Sunday the 17th.

I was there from January 19th-29th, 2009. I planned my days according to the touringplans strategy with a few exceptions. We found the crowds to be very very light first thing in the morning, and a bit heavier throughout the rest of the day but still NOT crowded! Totally manageable. I give the touringplans crowd calendar a it was right on for us!

I planned 2 am emh days and we DID notice a HUGE difference on these days. The crowds were awesome for the first 2-3 hours but after that it was quite busy.

I would say that it is a great week to go crowd wise, weather on the other hand could be VERY tricky!

It has been 5 years, but we were there over MLK weekend in 2004 and it was the BEST! Virtually no crowds all weekend, plus good weather. Since most of our trips are around Easter, I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to go in January again.

We visited WDW from 1/16 (the Friday before MLK day) through 1/26 (a week after MLK day) this year. The weekend leading up to MLK was definitely busier than the week following. However, the busiest weekend in January is still much less busy than any summer, Spring Break, or Christmas week day.

Tour groups were around, but I didn't witness any bad behavior (or fistfights!! ). Apparantly, Brazil has the month of January off school, so there were lots of Brazilians with tour guides. Not a real problem, though, IMO- we just made sure to follow the best/worst day charts on the UG website and avoided most of them.

Crowds were heavier during the weekend leading up to MLK and on MLK day itself. Things lightened up afterwards. We didn't have a real problem with crowds because we made sure to arrive at the parks before rope drop, use FPs, and do the big ticket rides early in the day. Waits were long (60 mins for Space Mtn, 80 mins for TSMM, 60 mins for Soarin') for the big rides in the middle of the day, but we used all the tips we learned here on the DIS and we were just fine.

Weather was all over the place. We had several days with highs in the upper 70's, and several days with lows in the low 30's!! Make sure to pack lots of lightweight layers and you will be OK. We wore everything from shorts and T's all the way up to fleece hoodies, windbreakers, and gloves. We went from taking a dip in the pool one day to shivering in coats the next.

We wouldn't hesitate to visit at this time of year again. As long as you plan a bit and expect it to be busy during MLK weekend, you will have a great time.

We went over MLK weekend 2008. The crowds were low when we followed Tour Guide Mike's advice, but horrible on the day we didn't. We saw many tour groups and there was also a cheerleading competition (college?) going on at DHS---that was our terrible crowds day. The weather was overcast and rainy the entire trip with the sun only coming out for a few hours in 5 days. The kids were able to get into the pool a couple of times, but the temperature dropped and it got very cold by the end of the trip. We had a great time even if the weather wasn't perfect. I would definitely plan another MLK trip based on our experience.
