Bump!

I added pictures to show how I make my number and color cards. I also added new cards for covers and a card for the color brown and the number 10 in post #122 and 123.

I've been wanting to make a "Hotel Scavenger Hunt" and I finally got around to making one. This is a great way to help kids that might be bored in the hotel do something fun. Also, if you are traveling with two adults...this is a GREAT way to give one adult a break from the kids. So send out your hubby with this list, a bag to collect everything in and a time limit so you can have a break. Then when he gets back...take the kids for a swim at the pool and give him one!

numbers request

Dolly, I love your numbers, shapes and color books! DS3 is working on numbers right now so I was wondering if you could do one for zero and 11-20? Thanks so much for all of your hard work!

I'm running out of colors...I guess there are still pastels. My 3 year old loves the books too! We have "school" most days with the cards. Of course his favorite are the sports ones. You can find them in the link in my signature to my shared file. Look in the "travel games" file and "picture book/memory cards" file:

Also...just in case you are wanting the alphabet...I have been using Natalie's alphabet cards as well. You can get the from her photobucket. I put her alphabet on the front of the card, then I put a big capital A and lower case a in black on the backside of the card. Of course you have to decide if you want block letters, d'nealian or both. Check and see what style of lettering the school teaches where he will attend. D'nealian for those that are wondering what it is...is handwritten letters that have little tails on them. It is supposed to make the transition to cursive easier. If you want to use that lettering...the closest free font that I have come across is Jarmon and Jarmondotted. Here is an example of Natalie's cards:

Here is a link to the cards in her photobucket: http://s143.photobucket.com/albums/r...phabet%20Book/

Enjoy!

thanks Dolly!

I am a former teacher, before I became a SAHM so I am little over obsessed with cute "teachable" things and I absolutely love these! We are working on numbers now and are getting ready to work on shapes so this will be great! I actually used Natalie's alphabet cards and made a really cute "ABC" book from artscow....I had some freebies to use....it turned out really cute, hardback and you can put your child's pic on the front....just an idea if you are interested! thanks again for the numbers!

how did you cut out your mickey heads....scissors or exacto around a pattern? I am scared mine won't turn out as cute as yours if I cut them! Right now they are just square with white around them but the mickey heads are too cute....just wondering how you cut them!

They are super easy to cut! I promise you can do this. Use scissors and trim around the edges. If you are right handed cut with the image to the left of the scissors so that you can see the edge you are cutting. Then you won't leave little bits of white. If you don't already have one...invest in a laminating machine at Wal-mart. They are fairly cheap and you will be surprised how often you can use them. Laminating the cards helps so that you can use them over and over without them getting all bent up and you can let your 3 year old hold and play with them...versus holding them up for him.

If you get a chance take a few pictures of the book and post it. I would LOVE to see it along with the other disney things you have made.

Also, the shapes are sooo much easier to teach than the numbers! Except for the pentagon, hexagon, heptagon and octagon of course. Mine gets the pentagon because that is the shape on a soccer ball.

I will post pics of the alphabet book...it turned out so cute and would make great gifts! I have been thinking about investing in a laminating machine...I know I will use it! I ordered the "Preschool Prep" dvd series to help with abc, numbers, shapes, colors, and sight words....it is awesome! I think it is totally boring but my DS loves it! We watch it usually at lunchtime and it has really helped with reinforcing what we are learning....

Thanks again for all of your hard work...our Neverland party is Dec. 5th and I can't wait to use all of the great stuff you made for us! I will definately post pics and a big THANK YOU!!!!

Here is a scavenger hunt for the "All-Star Movie & Music" Resorts. Even if you aren't staying there...if you have a day that you aren't going to be at one of the parks and need something free to do...this would be a fun way to get to see these resorts and take pictures with all of the characters. I have never been to these resorts so if there is something that I can add or change to these cards let me know.

For anyone that is traveling during the Christmas holidays...I made travel games with Christmas clipart. You can find them in my 4shared file in the link in my signature. Look in the "travel games" file then in the "christmas" file. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season and safe travels!!!

These would also make GREAT christmas gifts for family or friends that will be traveling with children during the holidays.

I don't know how you do it! Just when I think there is not another thing you can add to this thread, you come up with something great! I love the little books!

I am getting ready to take a trip (non-disney ) I was wondering if anyone has ideas for games that can be played with dice. We will be a pretty large group and I figured we could play games in the condo at night, but I would like to keep the stuff I need to pack to a minimum.

Thanks!

First, try to google "dice games" and you will find a lot.

For a fun group card game, look at Post #127 for Pig/Tongue/Spoons. I looove to play this with a group of people and have had a lot of fun with it on trips!!! Also, cards don't take up a lot of space!

Here are a few more card games AND I have a few dice games below these:

Killer
Required: Deck of cards
Players: Small to medium groups

Have one person draw a card. Example: Say it’s a 2, that card will be the Killer card. Then spread all 52 cards out on table, (like pond in Go Fish), face down. Each person takes a turn turning over 1 card. If they draw a 2 they are out of the game. Put the cards drawn in a discard pile. Game continues until only one person is left. Add another deck for every 5 players.

Relay Card Game
Required: Deck of cards
Players: Small to large groups

This game takes a little prep before hand. Take one deck of cards and split into 2 stacks each containing 6 of each suit. Shuffle the two stacks separately and write down the order of the suits as you flip each card over - heart, club, club, spade, diamond, club, etc. Make a list for each half deck.
To play, spread the 2 stacks of cards separately out on floor face down at one end of the room, one pile in front of each team. Give each team a copy of the list of suits. The 1st player runs down to their pile of cards and tries to find the first suit on their paper by turning one card over at a time. When found they will place the card in front of the pile face up. They will then go to back of line and 2nd person runs down to the cards trying to find the 2nd suit on their paper. When found they will place that card on top of the turned over card. The only cards that are turned over is the pile that is shown on the list. The first team to find all the cards in the given order are the winners. This game can also be played with decks that show the different states, birds, flowers, etc.

Here are a few dice games:

Dice - 1000
Required: Paper, pencil and 5 dice
Players: Small groups

To start, have each player roll one of the dice and the highest roll goes first, continuing clockwise. The first player will roll all five dice. The scoring of the dice is, a One equals 100 points, a five equals 50 points and three dice with the same number will equal the number on one die times 100. So if you rolled three twos you would have two hundred points. combination. If they stop at that point, they keep the total for that turn. If they roll again the must roll dice that will add to the score or they lose that turns score. If a player rolls all five dice and receive a non-scoring roll, they lose all accumulated points for the game. The first player to score 1000 is the winner.

Aces

Also known as Aces To The Centre, Deuces To The Left and Fives To The Right. A popular game in Asia, particularly the Philippines. This is similar to Aces in the Pot but is played without counters, but instead, with each player starting the game with five dice which they lose according to the numbers they throw.

Play:
Order of play is determined by each player throwing five dice with the highest ranking Poker or Indian Dice hand throwing first and the next highest second and so on.

Each player in turn throws their dice. Any 1s rolled are put in to the centre of the table and are eliminated from the game. Any 2s thrown are passed to the player on their left, and any 5s are passed to the player to their right. They continue their turn, throwing their remaining dice, until they fail to throw a 1, 2 or 5 or until they lose all of their dice.

Play continues round the table until the last die in play comes up as a 1 and the player who threw it, wins the game.

Chicago

Also known as Rotation. This is a simple game of luck played with two dice.

Play:
Eleven rounds are played in which each player in turn throws the dice and successively tries to score all the possible totals of two dice - 2 to 12. Players either announce their score after each turn or points are recorded on a score sheet. If a player throws a total of 2 on the first round they score 2 points. If they throw a total of 3 on the second round they score 3 points, and so on up to 12, scoring accordingly. The player with the highest total score after all eleven rounds, wins the game.

Ship, Captain, Mate, and Crew

Also known as Battleship, Mariner, Destroyer and sometimes just Ship. Five dice are used.

Play:
Each player takes turns throwing the dice. In each turn a player has three throws of the dice and tries to roll and put to one side a 6 (the ship), a 5 (the captain), and 4 (the mate). The 6, 5, and 4 may not be rolled out of order so if the first throw contains a 6 and 4, but not a 5, only the 6 is put aside and the rest of the dice, including the 4, are rolled again. If a player fails to throw the 6, 5, and 4 after their three throws they score nothing. If after three throws a player has put aside the ship, captain and mate the remaining two dice (the crew) are totalled to form the players score. If all three in the sequence are rolled before the third and final throw then the remaining two dice (the crew) are rolled in the remaining turn(s) to improve the total of the players score.

The player with the highest crew total, wins the game. In the case of an equally high total all players must play the round again.
