Sorry to hear how toughs things have been. Not sure what to say about stress. Hopefully things will get better for you soon.

Sorry to be coming on so late this morning. I had to drive DS to school because he had a 3-D model project to bring in. Then I wanted to get in my workout before I lost my momentum. I put in a video from our first trip to WDW in 2002 to watch while I was exercising. What a HOOT to watch! I may end up watching it all day. So cute to see my kids and hear their tiny baby-like voices.... DS says "Cindewewa" and "Dis-a-ney". AWWW!
Watching the video makes me kind of sad because the kids (as all kids do) are growing up SO fast and there will NEVER be another FIRST TRIP to WDW. It was so exciting because everything was a FIRST.... first time seeing the castle, first time meeting MM and the Princesses. While it was far from a PERFECT trip, it was so special... especially in hindsight. Watching this video makes dragging that stupid video camera around day after day SO WORTH IT.

In fact, my parents brought a MOVIE camera along on our first trip to WDW in 1974 and I actually have video (converted from movie) that I can watch of MY first trip to WDW. Again... so worth dragging the camera along (although I am not sure that my DDad thought so at the time... that camera was heavy and big!!

Anyhow, I am rambling on and on. Just feeling a big nostalgic from watching this video. And of course, it makes me want to go back to WDW REAL BAD!!!

Today's QOTD is:

I love, love, love to scrap and I am so far behind, but I just can't relax and do it until my responsibilities are taken care of (laundry, dishes, vacumming, etc, etc)... and since they are rarely caught up, I don't get to scrap nearly as often as I would like. Sometimes I am able to scrape out a few days at a time, but not lately. Maybe today I can get some done.......P

Introduction

Hi, everyone.
I have read through a lot of the posts, but not all. I decided to introduce myself anyway. I am 40 and have struggled trying to lose weight for a good 10 years. From age 26 to present my weight crept from 145 to 215 (what I'm at presently). I've had two kids within the past 5 years, and my youngest is 8 1/2 mos. I want to get this weight off before I get up there into my 40's.

My biggest obstacle has been my own mind. At the end of the day I will say "Go ahead, eat what you want, start tomorrow!" I have had the "start tomorrow" syndrome for over 10 years now. No longer. I have to gain control of my own mind in order to beat this weight issue. I want to be active for my kids -- they are in the fun stages of life now and I want to be active right along with them.

Here is my plan:

Eating: 1600 calories a day, broken up in 4 meals, each of 400 calories. A LOT of protein to keep my hunger in check.

Exercise: Couch to 5k, which has me walking/jogging 3x a week for about 20 minutes. Then 3x a week of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, which is 20 minutes.

What is missing is the mental strategy, which has always tripped me up. I'm a binge eater when it comes to stress, like after a stressful day with the kids. If anyone has any advice on how to handle this part, I would be so happy to hear it.

Anyway, I look forward to losing a LOT of weight with all of you!

One more thing: my husband has told me time and again if I lose this weight i can have ANYTHING I want! So, that in itself should be enough motivation, no? Especially since I want to take yet another trip to WDW for MNSSHP in October and since we JUST got back from DLR, there is no way he'd let me do this.... UNLESS I show him I am finally serious and drop a good chunk of the weight.

Welcome to the WISH BL Summer Challenge! I think we can all relate to the "mental" issues associated with losing weight.

It is truly a struggle EVERY DAY for me and I know it will continue to be. But I am definitely doing better and reminding myself that by tomorrow the taste of that cookie (or whatever) in my mouth will be long gone and forgotten, but the fat will still be there on my body. I keep reminding myself that I really CAN'T remember the desserts (or whatever) I've given up over the last year and a half, but I can definitely remember that THRILL on the scale when I've lost weight and when I have received a compliment (many of them in fact) about my weight loss. I can also definitely remember the thrill of putting on clothes that are TOO BIG! The feeling of being able to get dressed without feeling ugly and fat, the feeling of meeting new people without being self-conscious, the feeling of having my photo taken without dreading it... those feelings are worth SO MUCH MORE than the short-term feeling of that chocolate on my tongue. I just have to keep reminding myself about that (over, and over, and over sometimes!!). Plus I have found that now that I am eating much healthier, when I eat poorly (overeating, making poor choices, too much fat, etc), I feel crummy for DAYS sometimes. It is SO NOT WORTH IT.

You've come to the right place. This is a fabulous support group here. Lots of great ideas are shared and no matter what you are going through, chances are someone here has gone through it and can help! We have folks on Weight Watchers, South Beach, and calorie counters. Lots of different levels of exercise here too. Glad you decided to join us.................P

Thank you!!! Your words have definitely sparked my enthusiasm and I will use them to help me get through this day without going off plan (that would be a first in I don't know how long).

I especially like reading about how you no longer avoid pictures, get dressed without feeling ugly and fat. I can't tell you how long it's been for me since I've felt that way!

My plan was to lose most of my weight before a May 2 wedding in LA we just attended. Guess how much I lost. Just 5 lbs. Not even noticable. Well, I had to shop in the Women's/Plus section, and found only two choices of dresses that even fit me or looked marginally okay. And guess what color they were? You guessed right: black! I had to pass up the nice dresses in the regular section because none of them fit.

Then the wedding came. I cannot tell you how miserable I was. That was probably the LEAST fun I've ever had at a wedding, and it should have been a blast. I didn't want to talk to anyone, I was sooo embarrassed because there were people I had not seen in years, some from college, and here I was about 70 lbs bigger than when they last seen me. I am mortified just thinking about it. I know looked like someone stuck a tire pump in me and blew me up. I vow never to feel that way again. I may (hopefully) see those people again and when I do I will be 70 lbs LESS. I can make this a temporary thing, or a life long condition. It is my choice!

Thank you for offering your help, and to all of you for your future support. I am really looking forward to this happening THIS IS THE TIME!!!

Welcome, mefordis! Stress eating was one of the hardest habits for me to break. The hurdle to overcome is making that mental break between feeling like you need a comfort food when stressed. Perhaps as a transition, you could pick something healthy as your new comfort food. Maybe some peppermint tea or fresh fruit. For me, I just had to go cold turkey and keep my eyes on my weigh ins for motivation.

QOTD: If all of your responsibilities were taken care of for 72 hours, what hobby or sport or activity (other than traveling) would you indulge in during that time?
Sleep in until 9 am, sit outside reading a book, go to the movies, hiking, go out to dinner, play tennis, more hiking. Lots to fill 72 hours with!

That is so cool about the video's. I actually have video from when Taryn and Ryan were little that is on the cassetes. I gotta figure out how to convert them to DVD.

Go to Disney - That's my hobby right, lol! Hmm a mani/pedicure, massage, new haircut. Maybe sit down and read a book.

Things are still going strong today. Saw a new number last night on the scale - yeah. Its been a while since I saw that. I hope it returns in the morning

Good Thursday Afternoon

It is that time of the week for the COW to appear. I hope you have been keeping up.

Sometime this weekend please pm your COW points to me.

COW 2

THis week's COW starts on today 5/29/09 and will run until midnight Thursday 6/4/09. It will be an easy COW since we are all just getting started.

YOu get 1 point for each day you follow the COW

This week will start easy

Drink 8 glasses of water (1 point for each day)
Eat 2 servings of veggies (1 point for each day)
Eat 2 pieces of fruit (1 point for each day)
Do 2000 steps or 15 minutes of exercise (1 point for each day)
Do 5 minutes a day on something you like to do (1 point each day)

On Friday 6/5/09 send me

XX days drinking water
XX days eating 2 serving of veggies
XX days eating 2 pieces of fruit.
XX days of steps or exercise
XX days of 5 minutes doing something you like to do

Thanks and enjoy the COW

Do you do not have to do the entire COW. You can do bits and pieces of it that work into your plan. It is just there to motivate you and to help you think about developing new habits. THis will be a progressive thing. As the weeks go on I will be adding to these new habits. For next week you might want to find or get a pedometer, it might come in handy.

HAve fun with this.

Hello all...I actually did go to the gym last night. I still don't feel well, but I put in 30 minutes of moderate to high activity and feel good for going and doing it! Hope everyone is having a good day. I have a great low point dinner planned and am so excited!

What's for dinner?? Do tell! I am SO out of dinner ideas. In fact, I think I will share a recipe that I have been promising for a while.... I'll go grab it and be right back...........

I'm back! Here it is.

Heidi's low point Curried Chicken

1 medium onion - chopped

1 medium carrot - grated

1 1/2 C diced apple (about 1 large apple)

1 C chopped celery

1/3 C flour

1 TB. curry powder (more or less, depending on your taste)

1 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. pepper

3 C chicken stock or broth (fat free)

2 C cooked chicken breast, diced

Heat a large pan or dutch oven and liberally coat with non-stick cooking spray. Sautee the onion, carrot, apple, and celery 5 - 10 minutes (until soft) over medium high heat. Reduce heat to medium and sprinkle with the flour and seasonings. Cook, stirring, 1-2 minutes. Slowly add the chicken broth, stirring until thickened. Add chicken and mix well. Let simmer 10 additional minutes to heat chicken thoroughly. Stir every few minutes.

**10 points for the ENTIRE BATCH!!

Here are the changes I make to the original recipe. I always add more carrot, onion, and celery. I also usually add another apple, but that increases the points (just a bit). I don't bother to grate the carrot, since I don't own a grater or food processor. I just chop it very fine with my Pampered Chef handy chopper. Any kind of apple and onion work just fine. If you don't add the additional veggies, the recipe is very saucy/soupy. Even with the addition, it is still very loose. I serve it over brown rice. You could also serve it over toast (like chicken ala king). I believe it usually makes around 8-10 cups, so a little over 1 pt. per cup. If you are busy, this is easy to make ahead and reheat. You can also let it sit on the stove on low for 30 minutes or so without any trouble. Just don't scorch it on the bottom.

I think I will take a few minutes before the kids get home and get this going for dinner! Yum...................P

I made this tonight (delicious, as usual), but I measured it out pretty carefully. Even with 2 C of apple, and lots of extra carrot, onion, and celery, the whole batch was only 6 cups. So about 1.7 pts per cup. But still a fabulous "deal" as far as points go!!.....P

Hello, losers! Hope that everyone is having a great OP day.

QOTD - If all of your responsibilities were taken care of for 72 hours, what hobby or sport or activity (other than traveling) would you indulge in during that time?

This is a great question! Do you think it means that you have a problem if you can't think of anything you would do if all of your responsibilities were taken care of?!? This must be what WW meant when it said I need to concentrate on taking care of my needs.

Since you took a Disney trip off the list, I would say that I would read, relax in my yard, take a nap, and repeat.

Don't forget to PM your weigh in tomorrow to LuvBaloo and PM donac the results of COW 1. I put a notation of the location of the COWs on page 1 on the same post as the participant list so you can find them easily if you need to.

Thanks, Pamela, for the chicken curry recipe. Sounds delicious!

Have a great day and I hope we all have great numbers tomorrow!

See my tag.....I'd spend the time doing crafts (rubber stamping and card making) PROVIDED someone had already gone in and cleaned up the craft room/office.

Keep up the good work troops...remember tomorrow is weigh in!

Watching movies uninterrupted, reading, sleeping, hiking, cooking (I never have a chance to cook because I am being pulled by 2 little munchkins!), reflecting, checking my email....things that don't require picking up after anyone or cleaning anything.

Hello everyone!!

I think I have missed several QOTD. I really need to catch up, but I am in the middle of working 3 nights in a row so it will probably be this weekend before I really catch up !!

I will do todays - If I could do anything I think I would just love to spend a day out by the pool (of course it would be clear water and not green like it is now) with my family and not have to feel bad that something needs to get done. That is my problem with relaxing - I always feel guilty that something isnt getting done that needs to!!

Good Luck everyone for weight in tomorrow - don't think I lost as much this week, but my calories in has been a little higher - that's ok though!! I know it will take a while to get off the weight - But I finally weigh less now than I did when I gave birth to my youngest child - 11 years ago That baby fat just wouldn't go away!!

Jennifer

I guess I would have to say reading or watching tv. I have turned into a book worm lately. Right now I am reading My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I just started, but so far it is really good. Then I have tons of shows recorded on my DVR that I never have the time to watch.

I'm off to go cook burgers for supper. (a turkey burger for me! they are really good!)
