I hope you get your well drilled deeper soon. I grew up on a farm in So Colorado so I know all about well water and drilling and such. Never good when the wells start to go dry. Right now they are no longer issuing well permits in my farming community because of the water levels...they just have to drill deeper. Hang in there, I can't imagine how difficult it must be!

Yeah I am besides myself about this whole business thing. Shane REALLY wants this but he is a bit naive.

Shane and I have always kind of struggled a bit financially but we don't have much debt and I have always stayed home and never worked more than part time since the kids were born. They have been able to play sports and do Girl Scouts and I have been able to volunteer in their classes. To me this business represents everything I grew up with and it scares me. Sure we need to be better off financially but at what cost like I said. Plus if this guy can't understand that this is a rough time for us right now with everything going on with Lynn etc then he is a jerk.

What a difficult decision! I hope it all works out for you all! Owning your own business seems really appealing but the bad part is you never can go home and be 'off' work. My parents owned their own farm my entire growing up life and it was a struggle for much of my young years, they finally stated making money when I was in high school which helped a lot and are doing very well now. Luckily my mom was able to stay home and take care of us and we were allowed to do all the school and other outside activities. The girls really will remember more what you did with them rather than what you could afford to buy them. Your time and being there is the most valuable thing to them.

Hey Cheryl - I had this same kind of thing! When I was moving to CA from CO I was wearing these little pointy toed tennis shoes and I guess I bruised my toenail going up and down stairs all day. When we were driving out to CA it started aching and then about a week later it got really ugly kind of greenish/black. I thought I had a fungus too because I didn't remember stubbing it or dropping anythign on it. My sister is a hair dress and does nails so I called her and described what it was because she knows nail fungus and she said it didn't sound like fungus. I then had Bob's Ex-wife look at it, she's an RN and she said it looked like I bruised it. It is still black on the very end but it has taken almost a year to get back to semi normal. And yes, I kept nail polish on it most of the time and occasionally I'd take of the polish and put on a cute breast cancer bandaide I bought but other than that...no one has seen this ugly toe nail!

I fly Southwest all the time and I think you should be ok. Usually as long as you have A seating there will be seats together. With your 50ish numbers only 49 people will ge on in front of you and the planes hold at least 150 passengers. You should be ok.

I've given up my seat when flying alone for moms/parents with kids. Once I even gave it up for a dreaded middle seat. That was my good deed for the week!

Hi Courtney! I wish I had some suggestions but I am the worst at thinking of creative gifts. Does he like concerts or anything like that? For our 2nd Anniversary in July Bob bought two cheapy red and white checkered bowls and wrote on tape 'Hollywood' it took me a minute but I got it...he had gotten us tickets to several concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. I'm so boring when it comes to gift ideas. I did give him tickets to see Love in Las Vegas but I didn't do anything creative.

Thanks so much Courtney! I have REALLy been trying to do everything I can these last two days to try and get it under control so that I have a routine for the next week. As soon as I get up and "go" I try to take a bath or shower which helps and then I take pain pills and the medicine the doc prescribed and yesterday I did this yoga tape which helped with the back pain and I did that again today so I am hoping that between ALL those things I might be able to manage. Today it is hurting a little bit worse than yesterday but we shall see. I am about to go out with the girls to do some last minute shopping so I will see how it goes. I know sitting for long periods doesn't help but hopefully if I do ALL those things it will take the edge off enough that I can manage (crossing my fingers!!) Congrats on the anniversary. Gosh I have no idea about a gift. I have a really hard time with Shane too. I usually get him a gift card to his favorite store and let HIM pick out what he wants cuz it is SO hard with guys to me. Good luck and CONGRATS!!

And Mel you are right when I have flown back east (always to Florida) I have always flown Delta or American and had an assigned seat. I have only ever flown Southwest locally although Shane and I did fly them to St. Louis last year but that was just the two of us. I CAN tell you though that when we flew them the last time I believe it was I totally spaced getting my boarding passes and we got in the last group and had to sit apart. It was NOT good. They have A, B and C groups and if you don't get your passes RIGHT when you are first able to you get stuck! In fact next wed we are going to have to see about taking some time out of our day to try and get our hotel to do that for us or something cuz I will be afraid of us having to sit apart if we wait. It is a REAL pain!

And yes we leave tomorrow at 6 a.m.

Some of you know that I just finished driving from Northern California to Ohio. Tomorrow morning we start training to learn to handle my son's new Service Dog. We are so excited to meet Oakley! I have pictures of her on Facebook and will also post pictures and video of Jack meeting her tomorrow.

Anyway, I will try to get on as much as possible but it will probably not be much the next few weeks.

Shane seems to like the guy but he is calling and over at our house CONSTANTLY. I think he is only in it for what he can get out of it which is Shane's disabled status. He has REALLY been pushing him hard to get it done and we have had SO much going on with Lynn and my health and just everything.

He had the nerve to come over here the other day when Shane wasn't home and was just SITTING in the driveway. He came in and I was like Shane isn't here. So he started talking to me and made it clear that "his" wife was very independant and could take care of the house and kids on her own and basically was indicating that I better take a hint. And that when the business started there was going to be a LOT of travel etc etc and I better not expect to see my husband much. I was like whatever dude.

Then tonight at dinner I was po'd that Shane even answered the jerks call when we were trying to have our dinner but then he did and the guy bawled him out for being at dinner instead of home "studying" for his contractors license test. Then when Shane reminded him that we were leaving he yelled at him for going on vacation. I was like EXCUSE me but he doesn't even work for you YET!!! JERK! And then Shane was all cow towing to him about how when the business starts it will be all about the business and this is his last trip and yadda yadda. I was whispering what about oct!!!

I was livid and I got up and almost knocked my chair over and told him we needed to leave before I caused a scene in the restaurant. I couldn't believe that A this guy was talking to him like he was 2 and B that he was telling him what to do and Shane was letting him.

OHHHH I was mad. So I don't know what is going to happen with this but I am NOT happy about all this. YES he needs to get out of his current job situation but at what cost! I don't know this is not setting well with me!

Anyway Heather I am very sorry for your loss and I hope your doctor can find some answers so you are able to have a successful pregnancy. I know how much you want that! ((hugs)) and prayers to you!!

Cheryl that stinks about your toe! Glad it doesn't hurt and hope it gets better! I think they have medicine for that!

Hey Kelly--Marty and I have been self-employed for since 1994. First we ran a daycare, then Marty became a realator in addition to the daycare, adnow we havethe catering business. We love being self-employed because we are both first borns and hate being told what to do by people we feek don't know what they are talking about! Also, we are in charge of our destiny. The harder we work, the more successful we can become, and we are not doing all the work for somebody else's gain.
However, we are always working. I mean, I was getting calls on my phone when I was on the airport shuttle for the last Diva trip. We get calls all the time, and we always have to be available to work. Andthe work doesn't just come to you, you really haveto work to market yourself. Also, we have to pay for all of our own medical insurance, which is not cheap, even for just two of us. Andnobody is taking money out of our pay checks for taxes, so you haveto think about the big quarterly tax bills.
So I didn't want to be a total Debbie Downer, because we love being self-employed. I just think yo and Shane might want to take some time on your trip to discuss the realities of starting a new business to decide that it is what you both want and if you are both up to the work.
Oh, and on Southwest, they set aside a big abount of seats for their business class passengers, but they have never been filled when I've flown with them, so I wouldn't worry about being separated.

Thanks Vicki! Yeah as far as this business thing goes it is tough because like you said when you grow up seeing it first hand it is tough. My parents REALLY struggled first with an antique business and now with their real estate business. They have never worked for anyone but themselves and it has always been tough. When I was a kid we only took a handful of vacations because we could never leave our store and we couldn't really afford it either not to mention our store was robbed several times with the last time nearly bankrupting my parents because insurance on antiques is impossible to afford so they just didn't have any. They lost thousands of dollars in inventory and it devestated them. That last time they had to close their business. Then they went through terrible times in the 90's with the recession back THEN and if you ask me this one is worse! I do the books for my mom so I see just how bad it is and I have seen how stressed out she gets and it is SO not worth it to me. I know how much it sucked to have no life because my parents worked so hard and I don't want that for my kids so I just hope that this venture doesn't turn in to that. It would be different too if this guy didn't seem so shady to me. Shane seems to think he is ok but I just think that he wants it to work so bad sometimes that he is not looking at the big picture. My parents also think that he can't stay in tile which I KNOW that is true but I just worry about if THIS is the right scenario. But he is knee deep in it now so I don't have a whole lot to say about it. My parents think it is a good opportunity and so does he so I am overruled. I just hope that they are right and I am wrong!

Yeah Tina see I know what you are talking about because as I said my parents have had their own businesses my entire life. First an antique business and then a real estate business. And I do the books so I personally SEE exactly what the overhead is that is involved and I know all about the fact that my mom is a 1099 employee that is responsible for paying self employment tax at an exorbinant rate. In fact we tried to do our own tile business on the side WHILE shane still was working his normal job and the self employment tax nearly killed us. We didn't make ANY kind of a profit after we had to pay all the stupid taxes. It was ridiculous.

And like you said we would have to pay our own ins etc. I am NOT saying that staying where he is at is a good idea because they are totally messing with him but it is just one of those things that makes me nervous because shane knows NOTHING about running a business and I have seen ALL to first hand how it can devestate you. My parents have practically gone under many times and they work 7 days a week like you said. I can't tell you how many trips NOW that mom has gone on with me where she is on the phone almost the entire time. It is nuts. And I am NOT saying that working for yourself is not a GOOD thing but is THIS particular scenario right for us. That is what I am not sure. This guy just doesn't sit well with me, you know? But like I said I have been overruled because everyone in my family thinks its a good deal so hopefully it all works out!

Yeah, starting and managing your own business is TOUGH in good times, and as we all know, right now our economy is teetering on the edge of a cliff. My hubby has his own real estate appraisal business, and it's been REALLY HARD to survive. It seems to always be feast of famine.....one week is really busy, the next week is dead. I have to manage the finances really carefully so we have something to live on during those famine times. Winter is particularly a famine time for us because very few people are buying/selling or even refinacing real estate when there's snow on the ground and the holidays are taking over everyone's lives.

So, with the economy the way it is right now, my hubby took a tiny little side job as a merchandiser for some kind of pumps carried in Home Depot stores. He has five stores in his territory, and he can pretty much do the job on his own schedule. But when I say a tiny side job, I mean TINY. But hey, it'll help buy a few groceries every month, or maybe pay our heat bill every month this winter. Still, it's better than a kick in the pants.

We really won't be there over Labor Day weekend....we leave the evening of September 5th (Saturday) to fly back home.

I'm pretty sure Jen is running in the half marathon that weekend, so she'll be there for sure, but I'm not sure if anyone else is planning to be there over the weekend.

But like Sarah said, a bunch of Divas are planning a mini-meet in mid-September.

Hi Jane - I had thought about running the 5K that weekend but I've been having problems with my foot so I've quite running for the now. I think Jen is running the 1/2 marathon. We might go for a day but we haven't really made plans yet for that weekend.

Will you be there?
