Watch the movie, watch the movie! Just be aware that you shouldn't have kids in the room for it. Bad words, and stand ins for some VERY naked scenes in a movie being filmed.

*******

Tomorrow E and I will go see a condo being rented out. Same neighborhood as the cheapie place (good neighborhood!), rent splits the middle between higher and lower places. But it's smaller than the higher rent place...maybe even smaller than the lower rent place. We'll have to see just what sort of space it has!

********

So now that notice has been given to everyone and papers have been signed...Robert's going back to Amazon. His current, for the next 2 weeks, bosses tried hard, but ultimately could not give him a direct-hire job this year.

The manager is actually a software code guy, and when you're coding, one contractor is as good as another. It's not a problem to bring in a new guy, during the mandated breaks between contracts (everyone got all peevish about Microsoft's permatemps, and SEE what that created? PROBLEMS for people like us! Who on earth can afford to take 100 days between contracts????????).

But this is not a software coding job. This is a job that needs continuity with people. In 2 months, the boss is going to lose 3/4 of his staff to the mandated months off between contracts, and he hasn't started interviewing yet. He's going to be scrambling. His underling sees what is coming, but she can't convince him to start thinking differently yet. Because contract workers work for his old departments, he only asked for contractor and vendor (somewhere between contractor and direct hire) budget, and NO direct hire budget. So it's impossible, b/c he refuses to go high enough up the foodchain to say "hey, I didn't think about a direct hire, can we switch this amount from the whatever budget over to the direct hire budget, so we can keep Robert?".

Robert will go from hourly pay plus paid overtime to a salary. But he'll also go from needing COBRA for insurance continuation, to having proper insurance (of course, what's funny is that it's the exact same insurance...but we have to start over again with deductibles, AUGH). He'll also have proper vacation time (2 weeks prorated the first year... vs 5 days with the contract company and not able to use them for 6 months into the contract), he'll have Personal Days to take. If they are having a picnic this year, we'll get to go to that. As long as it hasn't already happened, of course! Being directly hired has serious Good Things over contracting, and that's why Robert's going on back. Plus, his new job will be awesome for him, it's in a totally different department and is different than anything he's done before!

The decision was so hard. Everything was either equal, or a bad was canceled out by a different bad on the other job, etc etc. Then we made the decision, he went to give notice, and they asked him to wait while they figured out if they could do direct hire! As hard as the decision was, when that happened it was frustrating, because had made a decision, you know?

Kinda like the apartment decision. So far, either way we go is a good way to go, just for different reasons.

Robert continues to remind me that as retro-interesting as the cheaper place is, it's very unsecure. It's like an outside corridor motel. Just one door between you and the beasts outside. We've gotten used to this VERY secure condo, with a fob to get into the front door and the door from the garage, with people looking out for you everywhere. When I was staying at my brother's lovely house, the days that they were both gone I was so nervous! Just a door between in and out...and they don't believe in having curtains on the back side of their house, so that was frightening too, for me. Oh and there's a laundry room at the cheaper apartment building...we haven't had to use a laundry room outside our place since, gosh...wow, not since the apartment I lived in when I MET Robert. And that building was all indoors, no going outside of the building to get to it.

Cheryl, you still have not told me what to send you for the hojo room that may or may not have been Ent Rate discounted for us. Harumph.

I noticed in the DVC thread that you're going to be at Grand Cal for opening day? How exciting!!!

I will say...it's funny to be going back, again, to amazon. This is his third round with him!

In a way, the "definition of insanity" comes to mind...but what can we say? We LOVE the company! And while lay offs are ALWAYS a possibility, we know, twice over, how they treat their employees during layoffs. And both layoffs that we've been affected by, we totally support and understand. This recent one we should have seen coming. Actually, we did see it coming, we just thought we had another year before it happened. Should have been a year or so, too, but some uppity up demanded a SECOND review of the department, and decided to go craaaaaazy with the decision (this department was making a profit for the company...but 15 salaried Seattle employees cost far more than many more hourly North Dakota employees...just like hourly North Dakota and West Virginia employees (the latter of whom were partially trained by yours truly!) cost far less than a whole passel of Seattle hourly employees back in '01!).

This time, we take nothing for granted and work to be prepared at all times! Dave Ramsey, here we come!

Molly!

I forgot!

When I rode Monsters Inc. this weekend I made sure to sniff during the sushi scene and I DID smell the ginger!

I'm glad you smelled the ginger! I felt so bad for my brother at DCA...he's really sensitive to smells, and there's the Soarin' smells, then the ginger...oh and on Heimlich thank goodness the watermelon smell and spray was off...he would have had to hurt me!

Worth keeping in mind when someone is scent-phobic, LOL.

Whew, our insurance company got the COBRA stuff worked out. I guess they hadn't gotten us into their system! It would have been annoying if we went to pick up Robert's second month of cabergoline and found that we had to pay a couple hundred OOP. Thankfully the insurance people were able to call over to their COBRA people and get the paperwork entered (I guess it was just sitting there). So no worries with that.

COBRA for one month, LOL. Crazy.

And the decision on moving? Well, did you ever see Star Trek The Wrath of Khan? In the beginning, when they are talking about Kirk's reaction to the Kobayashi Maru test, and you later found out that he changed the programming...that comes to mind whenever something comes out of left field and changes the whole thing.

And that's what happened yesterday, when our lovely landlady called and said if we'd sign a lease (we're on month to month right now) she'd lower the rent to a better level.

We said yes, after running the numbers with the most likely candidate.

But we're not resting on our laurels, no! We're going to pack up a bunch of stuff (we kept the boxes from last time, this costs us nothing), then sell/donate the stuff we wouldn't want to move again, move things around, re-do the place. I had high hopes for this place, but my natural laziness (not helped by the Dis, let me tell you!) got in the way about 3/4 of the way through (better than my usual 1/4 or 1/2 if I'm lucky way through) and it's still chaotic.

And maybe I'll hang some pictures!!!!!

So right now while online, I'm pulling things out of bins and reusable bags that I have tossed them into for months now, and putting them into labeled, proper piles. Hubby is on notice that he is NOT to move piles in frustration, because that glommed together pile will just sit there, whereas if they are in labeled organized piles, they stand a solid change of being put someplace proper.

Now I'm just hoping to do this with the minimum expenditure, as that would take away the whole point of changing the rent and taking CHARGE of our finances!

Woo!

Ah, I've started to do surveys again on the rewards site I belong to, which brings money to me. Ahhhh. I took a LONG time off but am back.

Yesterday we paid off our credit card. Like, completely.

Next, another thing.

Next, two ancient naturopath bills, and I'm going to send a check to a certain person in what I remember of the original amount, if she doesn't tell me the actual amount for hojo....

Hubby even reminded me that I have a mental/psychic debt of bridesmaid's gifts!!! I never gave 'em out. Only assembled half of the gift, actually. But now I own the pictures and rights to them and can make prints, so could make nice prints (like all the b'maids asked for but they were $35 for a 5x7, ouch, through the photog), get 'em a little something besides what I already got and have been holding onto, and a nice letter, and send 'em off, and feel GOOD about that!

Woo!

Definitely.

Robert continues his prolactinoma treatment. He is still emotional from the hormone, but his chest size has gone down (what a funny thing to say, but now that the area is smaller it makes me so ashamed that I didn't truly realize how abnormal the area was the last couple years! why didn't I SAY something????), and he's lost a pants size!!!!!! Considering the last couple years he has lost *pounds* but gone UP in pants sizes, this is major. He was SO excited.

He's also growing facial hair, very fast! His Korean-ness (a word paraphrased from The Birdcage, LOL) keeps him from being a very furry person, but suddenly he can get some growth on his face! Last year he won the complete loser award during his department's "Mo-vember" moustache growing contest, LOL. And now he has to shave every day!

I told him he should journal the changes, but he keeps forgetting, so I'm doing it for him. Just opened up a textedit document to copy that over there.

As for the $ stuff, I just got sick of our situation. We're doing fine, but there's some stuff that's tiring me. Sure, it's OK to have a car payment. But it's practically usury what Chase is charging in interest. 2 years ago when we were desperate for a car, that was one thing...we agreed to it. But NOW, they just turned down our refi request. OK, fine, it's getting paid off FAST. They will NOT get that huge interest from us, and since it is possible to pay extra on the principal, that's what we're going to do.

The other stuff is just normal stuff, but annoying, and holding us back. I finally *got it* when I finally realized that hoarding money in a savings account that has x interest makes no sense if you're making the requested payments at x+y (and with the car, x+y+x+y!) interest!

It's amazing how emotional money stuff is, though, and how hard it is on both people when one has a revelation but the revelation doesn't ring 100% true to the other.

It's also hard when a family LOVES going to Disneyland just as much as they would LOVE to get rid of all debt as fast as possible.

I tell you, if I won mega millions and got the money tonight, E and I would go to LAX tomorrow to take Sherry to DLR for her birthday. We'd also go as a family for a summertime weekend. Then during October for my b'day. Then at xmastime...though we've now been there twice during that time, so maybe it's time to switch it up and go to WDW.

Well to be perfectly honest, the US is getting old, so I think DisneySea would see us for holidaytime.

And now I've lost my mind....

Oh, and I also feel the need to pick a curriculum for E for when we start kindergarten work. I keep telling him that I am personally not pushing him (age of compulsory schooling is 8 in WA!)...but he REALLY wants proper work and worksheets to do. Crazy kid.

Already breathing easier! After yesterday's CC payoff, today was the nasty ancient medical bill for someone who never actually BILLED us. I know they hear it all the time, but you would not believe how many people said they sent us bills after DS's arrival that never ever arrived. We had a locked, secure, mailbox, but with most of the bills from his arrival never appeared in that mailbox.

The lady tried to get snippy with me (after all, she is a collections agency employee) but I wouldn't let her do it. She was downright chipper as she took the payment information.

It's so good to pay a debt that's been *out there* weighing on your mind and heart for so long...(though they were REALLY sneaky about this one, with the whole no bill from the provider, and then we only found out about it after paying what was *supposed to be* the full bill 2 years ago and not getting a "zero balance" statement...they've used the SAME account number for us the whole time, so I don't know why this didn't appear when we did that other payment...but I researched, found it to be a righteous bill, and that feels good to pay).

Hubby's Buddhist, so even though he's been the one basically preventing us from paying this bill (until this year I have been too scared to call them, and they are always ruder than rude to him even when he paid them something...when we did that big payment 2 years ago I had to get my SIL-the-lawyer to call, because Robert physically couldn't bring himself to do it), and he's hoping that this creates some happy karma now.

Last night I was reading Suze Orman...how can both she and Ramsey make so much sense, when they say different/opposite things????

What does all this have to do with Disney trips? Nothing AND everything. We pretty much pay for our trips with cash, but it sucks that we've been keeping that cash from people who provided us with service (even when we didn't WANT that service and weren't billed for that service originally...no I'm never going to get over that, and it's changed the way I "wait" for med bills entirely...I was calling the MRI places after I got the EOB once a week until they finally heard from my insurance companies).

So now we're not doing that. 'cuz it's a sucky thing to do.

(note that all of this happens AFTER we bought into DVC, LOL. convenient of us, eh?)

Oh, in other Disney news, E and I were watching a Travel Channel show, the "dos and don'ts of cruising" show, and he ended up noticing that there are cruises with disney characters. WHOOPSIE! He wasn't supposed to know that!

Ok I gotta get out of the house. Gotta go buy some stamps to get some other checks out into the mail!
