Sure Castaway Cay is all about fun in the sun, but what if you want to get out of the sun for a little while?

Here's the tip. Head on over to Castaway Jo's (also known as the Grouper Pavilion). It is a covered game room full of family fun. Shuffleboard, foosball, billiards and ping-pong are all available. There is also a giant checkerboard.

This area at the far end of the family beach is often overlooked so is usually uncrowded. A nice way to get the family out of the sun for a little while.

My goodness this is a talkative bunch! I will be away for a few days, visiting friends and family north of Toronto, until Friday..I don't think I will be able to read up everyone's posts!!

Welcome Faith and Susie !

I am curious to know the theme too for the cruise..Did anyone call DVC? There was no theme that I recall when we went last time (2003) so I don't know when they usually announce it.
It sounds to me like they are not going to say much, here is the text from the site :

"Welcome back to the S.S. Member Cruise Web site. You may be here to unlock a few secrets about the special entertainment in the works for this year's voyage. But here's the thing. We can't tell you. Why? Because we're taking our shows a step further this year and working with our friends at the Walt Disney Animation Studios to show you things you've never seen before. Things nobody has seen before. Things that could get us fired if we blabbed about them online.

They're good things, and they'll come to those who wait.

All of us at Disney Vacation Club are looking forward to sailing with you again on the waves of Disney Inspirations. See you onboard"

Have a great week everyone!

Now I know we are all very excited for this upcoming cruise but......

Does anyone have any thoughts on the dates for the 2010 Member Cruise?

I was looking at the 2010 dates listed for the 4 night cruises in September and October and I do not see any open dates where the SSMC10 would fit in.

I then looked at the 7 nights and (if I figured it out correctly) the Magic will not return until Oct 1 from the European tour. After that the next 7 night cruise is 10/16?

Not sure if they would need that time to maintenance the ship or if maybe just maybe there would be a 7 night for DVC.

Since this is my first cruise EVER I am not sure how the schedule usually works. I'm pretty sure that the Member Cruises have always been in Sept/Oct time frame.

Any thoughts, speculations??? Figured I would get some ideas flowing here.

9/12 - 9/16/2010. The Wonder sails for 3 nights on 9/9 and then nothing until 9/16.

Everyone seems to have their own particular comfortable shoe for Disney. I used to wear Crocs when I worked (health unit coordinator at the local hospital), so I know they work; the only problem is they make me too hot in the summer. The last trip we made to WDW I wore Teva Mush flip-flops the whole time and never had a blister or sore feet! And most flip-flops do not work for me. They also have an arch built in, which most do not. Love them! Now, however, after months of pain due to lower back spasms, I have had to buy MBTs (on the recommendation of my doctor), which are mongo expensive. But they work! A day or two of wearing these crazy-looking shoes and my back pain was gone . So I'll probably be found in my MBTs and my Teva Mush most of the time. It really is an individual thing since everyone's feet are different.

So hopefully I will be fully finished with chemo in time for the cruise and with a few weeks to get my taste buds back.

Mary, big doses of pixie dust for you that things work out well.

I'm a little disappointed by this as well. My one big gripe is if you aren't going to tell us the theme then take that page off the website. You click on it and it goes to 2008. I think DVC Marketing has been hit by cut backs.

I hope you're wrong, but I'm afraid you're right

They might have some of the same things. I would love to have gone to D23 but just too close to the cruise and we're driving to the cruise.

I was wondering about that, too. Maybe they'll bring all the stuff from the D23 expo for us. Who knows? They really should give us a little feel for what to expect. I guess we're lucky though; since it's our first member cruise, we have nothing to compare it against.

2011 bookings aren't open yet. You can however book a dummy date while on board and then move it. We did this last year. We booked 12/5/09 hoping we would like where they were going in 2010. The Baltics hold no interest to us but then we found out a friends daughter is getting married on one of the 5 night cruises on the Wonder so we transferred out reservation to that.

We'd really love to be able to book a trip aboard one of the new ships, too, especially one of the maiden voyages.

I guess we're trying to keep our expectations low and just enjoy the cruise. Hey, two days at CC...how bad could it be ?

Here's a question: Anyone have any thoughts about what movies they'll be playing on our cruise? And is there time for movies on the member cruise?

Thanks! I'm just about ready to head out of the office, got just a couple of things to do. Talk to everyone next week.

I'll check with Captain Henry or Captain John when I am on to see if the Wonder is scheduled for a dry dock in September 2010 at all, that may be one reason why there isn't any cruises scheduled then.

Okay! See everyone next week.

Thumbs up

I have noticed alot of new members going on this cruise and alot of names from the past not listed.I can only tell the newbies that this will be a cruise you will never forget.Mark and mary made my family feel like old friends from the first time we meet at the beach Club solarium and it was a wonderful ice breaker so you don't feel uncomfortable not knowing anybody when you board.I still have my button from the Oct 07 dvc cruise and it's in view for me to see every day.

I wish all my DVC friends a wonderful trip and hope to see you next year!
