Anyone at the park can get a fastpass. You probably know this already, but just a reminder that Fastpasses are issued for individual rides that give you a specific window of time to go to the ride and get a much shorter wait (as opposed to getting a special "jump the line" pass that works all day for everything). Once that window of time has passed, that particular fastpass is no longer worth anything.

You can have more than one Fastpass at once, but tI believe you can't get your next one until the window of time for the one you are currently holding has begun. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong...

So are FP all that disney offers or is there other types of "jump in front of the line" passes. when fast pass first come out i remember that it was only for resort guest only so if you were staying at the park it was an extra perk.

Well, there's Extra Magic Hours for resort Guests. Nothing - not even Fast Pass - allows Guests to jump to the head of the line, but... generally there are many, many fewer Guests at EMH than when a park is open to the general public.

Fast Pass allows you to enter the attraction through a different line than the usually longer standby line - but most times, there's still a line.

As far as I remember, Fast Pass has always been available to every Guest. There's never been a resort Guest-only restriction. You might be thinking of Universal?

it's crappy at universal. i love that place but non-resort guests paying for a fastpass?!?

Yes, I think you are thinking of Universal. Disney's FastPass has always been available for anyone and has never been a "front of the line" pass. It just allows you to come back at a specific time and bypass the standby line. I have been in fastpass lines that still took 20 minutes or more and that was not even in busy times.


Once you get a fastpass for one ride you are not able to get another one until your time window opens up to return to that ride. And for the very popular rides they often run out of fastpasses early in the day, like for Soarin, and Everest and I am guessing that will also happen with the new Toy Story ride, assuming that it has fastpass. I haven't checked into that yet, but I am guessing it will.

EMH is still a great strategy, especially the morning one. Get a fastpass for your favorite ride, ride it once with a quick standby line and then get off and you can usually ride again pretty soon with the fastpass.

Yeah, as mentioned below resort guests get to stay later in the parks on certain nights of the week (a different park each night), and they keep most of the rides open then. The lines we saw were much shorter and were about as long (if not shorter) than what we would deal with in the day using a Fastpass.

I don't think there's any "jump the line" pass at all in it's entirety. A few lucky people each day can randomly win a "Dream Fastpass" which is essentially a fastpass that is good for all rides all day. You still don't jump the line, you just get short waits at every ride and don't have to get a fastpass from each kiosk. Gives you a little more flexibility. I don't know how these get awarded, I think they're just randomly handed out as part of the Year of Dreams promotion?

It is not advertised, but it is Disney policy that you CAN use a FP any time AFTER the earliest time in the window, for the rest of that day. Never early, but you can use them after the last time on the pass. We have done this many, many times.

The only exception is if the lines get too backed up such as Soarin'. There have been a few posts that people were turned away there because the FP line was so back up. On mosts attractions, that should not be a problem.

This current policy can change at any time, of course, but it has been this way for years. The CMs will tell you this. The wording on the back of the Fastpass clearly states "cannot accept early arrivals," but nothing as to arriving after the last return time.

BTW, Using FP "late" does not cause significant slowdowns in the lines. It is heavy guest traffic in the STANDBY lines that cause the slowdowns.

I wouldn't rely on this though. I have heard reports from people that they were denied access after their fast pass time. You can always try, but if you are told you can't get in then you need to just cut your losses and get in the standby line or get another fast pass.

It happens occasionly, people getting turned away, but not often. By the way, I learned about this fastpass info from Knox, the moderator on the Themeparks board, before we left for our September trip. There are literally hundreds of posts over there from people who always use their fastpasses after the time on the pass. We did it no less than 20 times on our September trip. I even asked a CM about it at Space Mountain on our first day. He told me exactly what Knox said, that it is policy for a CM to let people on an attraction with a Fastpass after the last return time, never before. He also said that it is up to the discretion of the CM to turn away people if the FP line is very backed up.
