Hi all,
I saw the fish extender thread and it looks fun.
and since it is Christmas time when we are going, and
specifically, St. Nick Day on December 6th, ...would
a St. Nick stocking be okay to use as a fish extender?

and we would just put little treats in others extenders?
(that sounds weird, sorry.)

thanks
doreen

Our first two Disney cruises were in Dec 06 and Dec 07 and there WERE people who hung stockings as their FE's. Worked well!

Hey, you're from my area at home and you're staying at Wilderness before the cruise, too! When are you getting there? I'm starting to think there' s enough of us going to Wilderness (although we're at the Villas) before the cruise that we're likely to see each other there before hand.

We're actually getting there on the 2nd (Airtran flight in the morning). I have ADRs for dinner at 12/2 Jiko, 12/3 Artist Point, and 12/4 Flying Fish. We're doing Animal Kingdom during the day on Thurs and MVMCP at night, then Epcot on Friday. Since it is EMH at HS on Sat. we're stopping there first before heading to the port on Saturday.

I wonder if we're going to run into any of you with that schedule?

FE list

Hi! I just asked Hadley, she seems to think that you
may be in charge of this one...FE lit that is.
I will have to look at our cabin #s again, but it's
me and DH in cabin 1 and my mom, and DD's 8&9 in cabin 2.
Will get the cabin number when I have them in front
of me.
Thanks. Have a nice Labor Day weekend.

Jen

Doreen--I think a stocking would make an excellent fish extender

Jen--It is mommyoftwinfants who had started a fish extrender list. I PMd her my info a few days ago but have not heard back yet. I imagine having twon 6 year olds takes tons of time! If peopel would like, I could add an asterik* next to the posting names of those who will have FEs on the roll call--but you have to let me know who you are. Jen and Doreen--I'll put one by each of you since it is clear you will have one (so will I--we love them. We are planning on bringing some German candies for sure)

Well, since it is Monday (happy Labor Day to those of you in the U.S.) I guess we should have another Question of the Week While we are on the topic of pakcing, and now that we all have lots of good ideas of WHAT to pack, What is your best tip on how to go about packing? How to get it all in, or how to sort it, etc.

I will share two tips specific to cruising:

1. Remember that you will be staying in a small room and your luggage must stay in there with you (some lines will stow your empty bags but DCL does not). With that in mind we find the best things to bring are rolling duffles and a soft sided garment bag. Anything soft and collapsable like that can be stuffed under the bed for the week and thereby out of the way

2. The bags you check onto the ship (either at the airport that day if flying in same day and using DCL transfers--or when you arrive at port) may not arrive at your stateroom until 5 or 6 pm (though most things make it by 4:00). This is several after you have made it onboard. I ALWAYS put our swimsuits and some sunscreen in the bag we carry on. It seems no matter what the weather or the "plans" the kids end up wanting to be in that pool shortly after boarding.

I am really looking forward to seeing tips. I am always refining the packing process. . .

What is your best tip on how to go about packing?

My best tip on packing is to let the butler do it

Ok, Ok, we don't have a butler (or a maid etc.) I have learned to stay out of DM's way when there is packing to be done. If I try to do something then something else gets left out. (one person assuming the other has packed a specific item)

My bride typically makes a list of items that have to be packed and checks it off when packing day arrives. I make sure some items are on the list, then I stay out of the way!

Christine's big tip, pack everything you think you will need, then divide it in half, then divide it again in half, and finally divide that in half. Then you have all you really need.

So disappointed that there are no High Tea slots left. I think the cruise line should restrict people to one reservation per cabin for either a dinner or lunch and after a certain date, but after the 1st timers can put in their dates, open it up for more reservations for everyone, 1st come, 1st served.

The rule is one brunch, one tea and one dinner per cabin. There are just so many repeat cruisers anymore that it still books up. There is just not enough space in Palo for everyone to even get one trip in each. I imagine the new ships will have a bigger version of Palo (or more than one).

I just logged in and am seeing that brunch is sold out but tea is still open on Monday (it is NOT high tea--just finger sandwhiches, scones and pastries) and dinner is still available every night.

Hey! Thanks Hadley! That's Wonderful News!

I really wanted to have High Tea with just the 3 adults once and then dinner with my bride, just once. The rest is family time.

We'll take it from there.

Tips:
Whatever is left will likely be gone within about 5 minutes of teh 75 day booking window opening up. So figure what time the window opens in your time zone and be logged in and online about 5 minutes prior (because clocks can vary). Keep telling it you want to reserve Palo and refreshing your reservation from 5 til until you get in. Tea will go first so go for that immediately. Then as fast as you can after tea is booked gor for dinner. KNOW without having ot slow down and look at it what days/times are okay for you and pic kfast and book it. If you do not get something--remember taht 20% are held for booking onboard and you can do that as soo nas you board. Also remember than many people cancel later on so checking back often is a good idea.

aloha,
We are also coming in on 12/02 in the afternoon. We are having at Artist Point on 12/02. We would love to have drinks with anyone who is staying at WL or other resorts.
It would nice to meet some new friends before the cruise.

We're staying at Jambo House/AKL in a concierge studio in the villas. We stayed there one night before our August Wonder cruise and really enjoyed the experience. We're flying down late on Dec 3rd. Our boys are already going to miss 2 days of school when we go to WDW over Halloween weekend and then 6 days in December so we were trying to go after school on Thursday. We're having dinner at Whispering Canyon on Friday night. We're staying at Bay Lake Towers on 12/12 and eating at Ohana, then flying home on the 13th.

I've been looking at the kids sail free promotion and may go with a friend and her 13 y/o with my 12 y/o in late January/early February. Travelosity is advertising category 10's for $920 for a 3 day which is really good. Not as good as the $99 bounceback we got in August for sailing in February, but still a good deal. Southwest has flights for $59 each way during that time too.

My best tips for packing are to group my boy's clothes together by outfits complete with socks and underwear. I roll them and put them in large ziplocks and take out the air. They smoosh flat and I can pretty much fit both their clothes for a 7 day cruise in 1 duffle bag---but we usually put them in 2 bags so we can add souvenirs, etc. in them on the way home. We take rolling duffle bags which we slide under the bed after unpacking. We also take a garment bag for our dinner clothes and another small duffle bag for our ds8's pirate outfit, our snorkel masks and FE stuff.

I think we end up overpacking each trip no matter what we select to bring even though we try hard not to do so. We bring one casual outfit per day and one outfit for dinners per day. I'm sure we could cut down that amount by bringing half the pants and different shirts, but we always seem to have to do laundry if we do that.

We also make sure we bring a day bag with swim suits, sunscreen, etc. on embarkation day.

I'm really worried about overpacking. I've never been on a cruise before so I really don't know about space under the bed and stuff. Our luggage does nest well and we can fit it all under our queen bed at home (along several other things) so I'm hoping it will fit fine in our stateroom. We are also doing nine nights (split before & after the cruise) at WDW. If it were summer, all clothes for the cruise could work for WDW. However, with it being December, I know I'll need jeans, long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts for WDW. Maybe even a coat. I've been in Dec and early Jan and have had wide range of temperatures - low 30's with windchills in the 20s up to the low 80's. When we leave on Dec 1, we won't have a forecast for the latter part of our trip so I'll want to be prepared even if we are expecting warm temps at the beginning of our trip. I do plan on packing good layering pieces though.

I think if your suitcases fit under your bed they should fit under the stateroom bed. We just lift up the end and slide them under. You could probably also store them in the closet if the bed wouldn't work. I've read someone even stored theirs in the bathtub during the day but that would be a pain---and with our luck it would get wet and mildewed.

We have been to WDW and cruised the last few Decembers and the temperatures do vary widely. Three years ago we were so cold at MK we had to buy our boys hats and gloves. Two years ago we were in shorts and t-shirts the entire land portion. Even Castaway Cay can vary. Last year we were on a 4 day and couldn't dock the first day due to winds and currents so it became a sea day. It was overcast and raining. The next day (which would have been a sea day) was gorgeous with blue skies and very warm and we had a great day at CC. I think the best thing you can do is just bring layers. Most of the time at WDW in December, we'll wear jeans and tshirts with wind breakers and take the windbreakers off mid- day. Our boys have also worn the zip off pants and they have worked well. I'll wear capris some times too and they are great.

I wonder if we're going to run into any of you with that schedule?
hi!
we are coming in on nov. 30th. we have a very different schedule, none of those restaurants. and I don't know what EMH at HS on saturday means!
we did the Very Merry Christmas Party before so not doing it this time.
it's fun though. but maybe we'll run into some of you around the hotel.

So, on the note that everyone is posting where they are before the cruise, we're staying at CBR from Dec 3-5. Going to MK on Friday for the day and eating at Crystal Palace at 3:40PM.

Anybody else at CBR?
