Smile Fun Foods

Along with the theme from this thread, please share fun food recipes and pictures, if you can post them.

Monster Burgers

8 ground beef patties (4 oz each)
8 burger buns, split
8 slices (3/4 oz each) American cheese
8 thin slices cooked ham
16 slices dill pickle
Ketchup

Set oven control to broil. Place ground beef patties on broiler pan. Broil with tops 3 to 4 inches from heat 10 to 12 minutes or until thoroughly cooked, turning once.

Place bottom halves of buns on serving platter. For each monster burger, place 1 cooked patty on bottom half of bun. Cut cheese slice in half in zigzag pattern to look like teeth. Place half of cheese slice on burger, with "teeth" hanging off 1 side of patty.

Loosely fold ham into tongue shape; place on top of "teeth." Place remaining cheese "teeth" on top of "tongue." Top with top half of bun. Place 2 pickle slices on top for eyes. Dot "eyes" with ketchup for pupils.

Pillsbury Grands Big Smile Chalupa

1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 package (1.25 oz) Old El Paso® taco seasoning mix
2/3 cup water
1 can (16.3 oz) Pillsbury® Grands!® Homestyle southern style biscuits
1/2 cup ranch dressing
1/4 cup Old El Paso® Thick 'n Chunky salsa
2 cups shredded lettuce
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 cup shredded cheese (8 oz), if desired
8 pimiento-stuffed olives, cut in half
8 grape tomatoes, quartered

Heat oven to 350°F. Cook beef, taco seasoning and water as directed on taco seasoning packet.

Meanwhile, separate dough into 8 biscuits; press each into a 6-inch round. Place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown, rotating pans halfway through bake time. In small bowl, mix ranch dressing and salsa.

To assemble each chalupa, layer lettuce, onion and cheese on warm biscuit round. Fold in half to form chalupa. Use toothpicks to secure filled chalupa, and attach olive halves on top to look like eyes. Use quartered tomatoes for teeth. Drizzle with ranch sauce mixture.

Apple Bites

Sliced apples
Slivered almonds

Quarter and core an apple, cut a wedge from the skin side of each quarter, then press slivered almonds in place for teeth.

Tip: If you're not going to serve them right away, baste the apples with orange juice to keep them from browning.

Bugs In A Blanket

Little hands can help transform sausages and breadstick dough into bugs almost too cute to eat!

1 can (11 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated breadsticks
24 cocktail-size smoked link sausages (from 14-oz package)
3/4 cup shoestring potatoes (from 1 3/4-oz can)
Ketchup, barbecue sauce or mustard

Cauldron Of Chili With Spider Breads

Prep Time: 40 min ; Start to Finish: 55 min
Makes: 8 servings (1 cup chili and 1 spider bread each)

Top a steaming bowl of chili with a friendly (and edible!) breadstick spider.

1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
3/4 cup chopped onions
2 cans (14.5 oz each) Mexican-style stewed tomatoes, undrained
1 can (15 oz) Green Giant® spicy chili beans, undrained
1 can (11 oz) Green Giant® Mexicorn® whole kernel corn with red and green peppers, undrained
1 can (11 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated breadsticks (12 breadsticks)
1 egg white, beaten
3 to 4 small pimiento-stuffed olives, sliced
1/2 cup finely shredded Cheddar cheese (2 oz)

1 . In 12-inch skillet, cook beef and onions over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain. Stir in tomatoes, chili beans and corn. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer uncovered 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2 . Meanwhile, heat oven to 375°F. Unroll dough; separate at perforations into 12 breadsticks. Cut 4 of the breadsticks in half lengthwise; on ungreased cookie sheets, shape into 8 coils.

3 . Cut each remaining breadstick lengthwise into 3 strips, making 24 long strips. Cut each in half crosswise, making 48 short strips. Place 3 short strips on each side of each coil, placing ends under coil; pinch to attach. Bend strips in center to look like spider legs, or place crumpled small piece of foil (about 3x1/2 inch) under 3 "legs" to make them stand up in center. Brush breads with beaten egg white. Place 2 olive slices on each to look like eyes.

4 . Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until "spider body" is light golden brown and "legs" are golden brown. Top individual servings of chili with cheese; serve with warm spider breads.

Hoot Owl Salads

Prep Time: 25 min ; Start to Finish: 25 min Makes: 4 servings

You'll be very wise, indeed, when you try a silly salad packed with veggies.

4 slices (3/4 oz each) American cheese
1/2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
3 tablespoons Old El Paso® taco seasoning mix (from 1.25-oz package)
2/3 cup water
2 cups frozen O'Brien potatoes with peppers and onions (from 28-oz bag)
2 or 3 pitted small ripe olives, sliced
12 ready-to-eat baby-cut carrots
1/2 cup chopped leaf lettuce

1 . From each cheese slice, cut 2 (1 1/2-inch) rounds; reserve cheese scraps.

2 . In 10-inch nonstick skillet, cook beef over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain. Stir in taco seasoning mix, water and potatoes. Cook 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until hot. Stir in reserved cheese scraps until melted.

3 . Spoon beef mixture evenly into 4 (10-oz) ungreased custard cups. Top each with 2 cheese rounds to look like eyes of owl. Place olive slice on each cheese round to look like pupils of eyes. Add carrots to look like beak and ears; sprinkle lettuce to look like feathers on face.

Crescent Mummy Dogs

Prep Time: 30 min ; Start to Finish: 50 min Makes: 10 sandwiches

Hot dogs are all wrapped up in a classic recipe for Halloween...or anytime a chuckle is in order.

1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (8 count)
2 1/2 slices (2.5 oz) American cheese slices, quartered
10 large hot dogs
Cooking spray
Mustard or ketchup, if desired

1 . Heat oven to 375°F. Unroll dough; separate at perforations creating 4 rectangles; press perforations to seal. With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 pieces, making a total of 40 pieces of dough. Slice cheese slices into quarters (1/2 slice cheese, cut in half).

2 . Wrap 4 pieces of dough around each hot dog and 1/4 slice of cheese to look like "bandages," stretching dough slightly to completely cover hot dog. About 1/2 inch from one end of each hot dog, separate "bandages" so hot dog shows through for "face." On ungreased large cookie sheet, place wrapped hot dogs (cheese side down); spray dough lightly with cooking spray.

3 . Bake 13 to 17 minutes or until dough is light golden brown and hot dogs are hot. With mustard, draw features on "face".

Cheese Finger Food

Mozzarella string cheese
Green bell pepper
Cream cheese

Wearing plastic gloves or sandwich bags over your hands to keep the cheese as smudge-free as possible, use a paring knife (parents only) to cut each string in half and then carve a shallow area for a fingernail just below the rounded end of each half.

Mark the joint right below the nail as well as the knuckle joint by carving out tiny horizontal wedges of cheese, as pictured.

For the fingernails, slice a green bell pepper into 3/8-inch-wide strips. Set the strips skin side down on your work surface and trim the pulp so that it's about half as thick. Then cut the strips into ragged-topped nail shapes and stick them in place at the ends of the fingers with dabs of cream cheese.
