Mark&Sue's Trip - Day 4 - 15th October - The DIS Discussion Forums

This is Jack and Kirsty's birthday day. I had booked a grand gathering Safari Celebration for the evening at 4.30 and we asked both Kirsty and Jack what they wanted to do in the morning. They both wanted to see the new improved Pirates of the Caribbean, so after they had opened their presents we took off to Magic Kingdom. We queued up at City Hall to get their Birthday Badges which they wore next to their Grand Gathering badges (which we were all wearing in the hope of getting to win of the year of million dreams prizes! No such luck though)

The Pirates ride was great and well worth the wait. We headed back to the Villa for Birthday lunch and party we had planned together with birthday cake and candles (bought two days earlier in Goodings at the Crossroads)

I was beginning to feel upset for not ordering balloons for the party as I had tried to order balloons for the evening but were told no balloons are allowed at animal kingdom (as they could scare the animals) and then was not sure exactly what we were doing so had not booked anything else. However Disney made me so happy as just as we were getting back to the Villa they delivered some balloons together with special cards for Kirsty and Jack signed from Mickey and Minnie

It was fantasic especially as I had not asked for anything just mentioned it was their birthday when I booked through the Disney Vacation Club. I do not have any photos of the balloons but will ask Lisa for one which I will add later.

Here is a photo of Lisa making up the wonderful bagels. They were delicious.

It was now time for our first Grand Gathering trip of the vacation and I was so excited. We got the bus to animal kingdom straight away from the stop outside our villa. We were a little early and had time to do "tough to be a bug" which everyone enjoyed. We had to wait outside of Flights of Wonder

We were lucky enough to catch the parade

Eventually our Safari Celebration began. We gathered inside the flights of wonder theater and were all given a special exclusive grand gathering safari celebration pin which was great as now Kirsty, Jack and Megan were collecting pins.

The safari was more personal than the usual safari and we really took time to look at all the animals

After the safari we gathered at Tusker House restaurant had an African dinner. The food was probably a bit more african than I had thought it would be compared to Disney's usual bland try on different countries tastes! The African entertainment was a bit strange too.

After dinner we would could queue up to get photos with Chip and Dale however the castmember who took the photo appears to have taken a video with my camera and I don't know who to show it.

We also got a chance to touch some of the live exhibits

For this safari we are in the Animal Kingdon park with just the other grand gathering guests and it was really nice to walk back through the park on our own in the dark.

We take one last photo for the evening on the bridge overlooking Exhibition Everest (it comes out a bit dark)

Not sure if this trip was worth the money but was a great experience and I doubt I will get the chance to do it again as I needed at least 8 people to book it.

Lovely day Susan, I remember staying at the Pop last year and Disney delivering ballons and a signed picture from Donald Duck to my daughter for her birthday, its a lovely touch
