Anyone going on the Adults Only Cowboys & Canyons trip on May 22nd? Any recommendations/suggestions from anyone who has been on that trip?

What kind of recommendations/suggestions are you looking for?

There are lots of folks on this board who have taken this trip (mostly back when it was called Southwest Splendors - no idea why they changed the trip name after all these years!) As you may remember, I happen to be one of the folks who has taken this trip (in 2008) so feel free to ask questions, and I (and I'm sure others) will be happy to answer!

It's a fabulous trip! Have you signed up yet, or are you still just looking at the trip?

I am interested in any replys to this thread. This is one of the trips we are interested in, the adults only Cowboys and Canyons.

I think you can find a lot of threads with reviews or recommendations. My top recommendation is for your "on your own" time at Red Cliffs Lodge, book the ATV tour. It's a bit expensive, but it's really fun. And have the prickly pear ice cream at the Black Cow Cafe in Sedona. The prickly pear magarita at the Cowboy Club is good too.

- Pack bandanas for the jeep tour in Sedona (I don't think we really used them here) and the tour on the Navajo reservation (definitely used them here). DH kept one in his backpack. DD and I wore them as cute headbands until needed.

- ATV tour at Red Cliffs lodge was a BLAST! Pack old nasty clothes b/c you will get filthy. I am not an outdoors kind of girl, but I have never enjoyed being outside and being dirty so much!

- I had some altitude sickness during the trip that I didn't expect at all. If anyone in your family has a problem with altitude, you may need to be prepared for this.

- Pack the little flavor packets with added electrolytes. ABD will provide water bottles for you, but these are great add-ins especially when hiking.

- Like I said above, I am not an outdoors girl. However, I enjoyed hiking Bright Angel Trail (not too far down) and white water rafting (I was absolutely terrified, but I quickly got over it.). I did not enjoy the hike to Delicate Arch. It was a lot tougher hike than I felt up to. DH loved it, but I would have enjoyed staying on the bus tour better.

Could you tell me if there was an alternative to the Jeep ride offered? I have a fused discs as well as "rods" and I don't think a rough ride would behoove my well being for the rest of the trip. Thanks for your reply.

Hmmm... I really don't know if there was or not. You could probably call ABD and ask them of an alternative.

Already booked it. Really excited about it, although the airline is making my life a living hell as it keeps changing my flight from Grand Junction. Originally supposed to go through Denver to east coast, but now have to go through Houston. How long was the trip from the Moab, Utah to Grand Junction, Colo?

Grand Junction is a teensy, tiny airport, and only serves smaller planes. I wonder if it's Delta? Delta makes a sport out of constant flight modifications...

ETA: I just checked my Trip Report, and it says that it was an hour and a half drive to the airport in Grand Junction.

We just booked our flights and it was United. Or really those smaller commuter planes.
