I always bring a golf ball to roll under my feet at the end of the day back in the room. It does wonders for sore feet!

Did I mention I bring a blacklight when I travel to check the room before we check in/bring our stuff to the room because I'm a neurotic nut when it comes to bedbugs and bodily fluids?

Yup.

And yes, I once found them at a four star hotel (in an outlet beside the bed) which we promptly left. When I ask for other blankets and pillows it's because ew.

Can blacklights find bed bugs? I know they can find gross stuff but I didn't know about bed bugs.

Amazon.

And yes. They poop blood and leave a mess you can see with gamers yellow glasses or the lights out. There was a trail to the outlet I saw them in. You'll see all biologicals from dust to if around the toilet or bedding was not cleaned.

Caveat: for your sanity, don't turn it on in the airplane. It's horrifying! We once had a wet seat and I needed to use it to show a terrible stewardess it was not a little water but a soaked seat of urine. The whole place lit up like it was Christmas! (& now we fly southwest!)

Does anyone else pack a few garbage bags? I find the small can in the room gets quite full, especially if you eat breakfast in the room with the takeout plates and with the packaging from the stuff the kids buy. We usually skip a day or two of room service too so it builds up. We like to keep one garbage can for recycling so that cuts down even more on trash space. I throw a few garbage bags in to help keep it from piling up.

I do! For trash, or laundry, or anything else I might need! Very handy.

Not only do I use them in my room, I used one just today at Animal Kingdom. I went on Kali River Rapids and I didn't want to wear my poncho in the heat, so I split open the bottom of a trash bag and wore it like a skirt. I was the only one in my party without a wet bottom for the next few hours :-)

Hahaha! Awesome!

I'm the lucky one on any water ride that gets soaked! No lie, once a ride like Kali got stuck with basically a firehose blasting away at the back of me and I was strapped in unable to move. I was laughing but my friends were screaming! So this to me is brilliant.

(They bought me clothes. And shoes. And things for all my friends. Anything I wanted. And dinner. And offered medical treatment. (Which that I didn't need but it was that bad/funny!)

Yeah? Try sleeping now not knowing! Mwahaha!

Actually most hotels are pretty clean especially if they are used a lot and/or business class. It was worse years ago before online reviews. There's even bedbug websites with reports down to room numbers! And some of the dirtiest often are higher end hotels! But blacklight, Lysol wipes, gloves, and bug checks help me sleep better! My DH knows to not argue if I go in first and come out a few seconds later saying we need to change rooms. Now.

There are some good sites telling how to check for bedbug signs even without the light. And the things can be anywhere. A friend and his wife brought them home from the hospital along with their newborn and then passed them on to visiting family the first week before anyone realized. Another family member stayed in a super posh luxury hotel and caught fleas from the celebrity guest's before's little dog, A clothing store in Chicago closed because they were in the dressing room. Total nightmare.

My only other hint regarding this is to not ever use the bedspread or duvet on the beds. They're most likely to be stained and dirty because they're not always washed each guest and rarely bleached. Don't walk in and flop on it. No kiddos on the bedspread either. Take them off! Ask for extra blankets instead! I also never use the drawers. Instead I hang cloth sweater racks in the closet (after it's checked) and use packing cubes to sort outfits and by person.

-Power strip - Even solo, I like to plug that puppy somewhere and just charge all my stuff on there - Camera, phone, etc. Defo important if you go with more than just yourself. Disney has outlets in many parts of the rooms but, they are in hiding. Hehehe.

-Mini Lysol (or big Lysol) (found at the travel section of most places) just to spritz the air vents and freshen the room a bit between Mousekeeping visits. Also works to keep shoes smelling fresh! I also spritz the bed sheets.

-Wipes - Both the Lysol/Bleach kind and the ones you can use on yourself. Regardless as to how clean the hotel is, I like to wipe down hard surfaces. Especially if I am going to eat on them. I'll use the Lysol one to wipe down the remote which is sometimes very gross.

-Lip balm or body glide - Apply to feet, prevent blisters.

I drive up so, I know some people can't do this unless you ship ahead but...
-Small coffee pot if I stay at the Values. And coffee of course! I LOVE coffee... HAVE TO HAVE coffee . Before last year I would get the resort mug and have my heart's content of beverages but, since I do not drink sodas anymore, I can't justify paying for only coffee. (Mods and up have coffee pots in the rooms)

-Air Purifier - Not so much for a smelly room (which in 20+ trips I only had ONE musty smelly room) but for the noise it makes which drowns out some of the resort noise. I am not a light sleeper but, I need dark and quiet to fall asleep.

Nice tip on the power strip! Thanks!
