We really like SSR, it doesnt have the same disney feel as some of the smaller resorts but it's a large resort with a few pools and being within walking distance to DTD is great.

Just the resort in General. It did not help that we had a damp room and when we asked to change they said they were full which was not true. Others love it I personally did not and there was no theming. If we all liked the same there would be only one full resort . It is walkable to DTD but our second week was at AKLV and there was just no comparison . Again only my personal opinion.

Thanks Guy's!
All the posts have been a real help in pointing us in the right direction.
We are so excited for April to come around, so we can get to view some of the resorts, then return home and start the process of buying

We own at AKV and love it, it really is a personal decision. There are so many wonderful resorts to choose from each with pros and cons. Enjoy your tour and have a great holiday.

It depends on whether you want to be able to book at the 11 months booking window against the 7 months booking window. We originally bought into SSR in 2004 and last year bought resale for Vero Beach as we could buy more points at a far cheaper price.

We prefer to stay at OKW as you get a longer stay for your points, so we always have to wait for 7 months booking window but have always managed to get the dates we want.

When buying more popular resorts be aware that Disney operate a wait list, so if people contact Disney to buy into OKW for example, disney will refuse the resale as they already have a buyer.

buy where you want to stay.
This is a good tip, but only if you are going to use the 11 months home resort advantage: this means being able to schedule your trip one year in advance.
If you can book 7 months or less in advance, which resort you buy makes no difference.

You need the home resort advantage only if you are going to stay in the same resort for the next 30-50 years. If you want to stay in different resorts over time, the resort you buy has no meaning.

You need the home resort advantage only if you are going to book a room category that is difficult to get at 7 months. If you want to book a Savannah view at AKL, for example, you'll be fine almost every week of the year: there are many rooms in that category and they are often available at 7 months (with very few exceptions).

If you visit during very slow periods for DVC, the home resort advantage is useless. Last September I got 2 consecutive weeks at AKV Value studio, one of the most difficult category to book.

And for some categories, you'll do better purchasing SSR anyway. Purchasing BWV for the standard view, may not save a penny. Once you factor higher cost per point for the buy in and higher MF, buying SSR and using the points to book Garden view will probably save you money.

If you always want to stay at a specific resort/view type when it's difficult to get it, buy there.
Otherwise buy SSR.

Vero is cheaper to buy in, but has much higher MF.

SSR buy in: $70 - $75 per point
VB buy in: $45 - $50 per point

SSR MF: $4.91
VB: $7.75

With a difference of $25 per point to buy in and 2,84 in MF, it will take 9 years to make up for the difference, then in the long run you'll pay much more for Vero. And Vero expires earlier.

Spot on!
I would definitely buy SSR to save money but I want 1bdr value villas at peak time at AKV, which requires me to have that 11 month window.
