My family and I are going to Vegas in September for a close friends' wedding. Before you all jump on my husband and I for taking our very small children to Sin City, consider that we live in Australia so leaving the kids with family for a weekend trip to Vegas is out of the question. Instead we will all travel halfway around the world together, spend four nights in Vegas and then spend the next ten in Anaheim doing Disneyland.

Our hotel is booked, The Platinum - off strip, where the wedding will be, but I don't know how we are going to get there from the airport. We will only need a one way transfer as we are driving to Anaheim after the four days. Our boys will be 2,4 and 6 so I'm assuming that they will all need some sort of car seat in a taxi or shuttle? Private transfers will probably be the same. Any ideas or advice?

If you're in any kind of "bus" (or any other vehicle where adult passengers aren't required to be belted) you legally aren't required to have your children in designated child seats. However, you will once you have a rental car. At the cost of renting from the rental agency, you could probably buy an inexpensive one.

At those ages I'm thinking you'll need one full-on car seat and two boosters. Unless you're renting a minivan or vehicle with 3 rows, it's going to be interesting getting all the kids in the back of a 5-seat vehicle. I think you could do it, but one of the kids is going to be pressed against the side of the seat for the two-year old.

I was thinking maybe your hotel had a shuttle, but they don't. If they did, you wouldn't legally need child seats.

Are you keeping the rental the whole time you are in California? Are you bringing your own car seats or renting them?

I would bring my own seats and price out getting a car at the airport in Las Vegas and keeping it the whole trip. If that is way out of the budget I would arrange a car service from the airport to the hotel in Vegas. Where are you renting the car from for the trip to California?

We have always taken our own car seat, however we have never flown overseas.

Seats that they bring over might not meet FMVSS requirements. Not saying that they would be better or worse, but there are specific requirements in the US.

A lot of people deliberately use bus or shuttle services because legally children aren't required to be in child seats.

Thanks for this info and your other post. A shuttle or bus is looking most likely. Or even a taxi for me and the baby and a bus for the DH and the other two - for a bit of adventure

We are thinking of bringing one seat, but three would be near impossible to cart around. We're only renting the car for the one day to get to Anaheim.

I'm going to check to see which of our car seats (we have quite a collection!) will meet US regulations before I make any more decisions.

It's unlikely that whatever seats you bring will carry any message that they meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards section 213. Child seats are generally made for a specific market, as every country has different requirements.

If it's only going to be less than 24 hours, then you might be better off just renting the seat along with the vehicle.

Unless the 6 year old is over 145 cm tall they will all need car seats in the rental car in California. I don't know the Nevada law off-hand. I know there are potential issues with renting car seats from the rental company, but do some research for a reliable company, because in this case it seems like the best option.

I always use the shared shuttles in the ground transportation area. Follow the signs in the terminal and there are booths outside. They're usually $6-7 per person 1 way. Last time I used Executive Shuttle, they had a $1 discount so I pre-booked the return to the airport, which you might have 1 person go roundtrip if you're picking up the rental car at the airport. Also, they had a few other people waiting on that particular day, which meant they were leaving soon. Since you're not staying on the Strip I'd email in advance to make sure they go to your hotel, but I'm sure most would.

We are getting them car seats (well 2x boosters and one proper car seat) for the rental, it's the transfer that's giving me grief!
