Pictures of the Auto Train???
I was wondering if anyone had pictures of the auto-train? We are thinking about taking the auto-train and going coach this time. I HATE flying and now it seems even worse, just thinking about it makes me break out in a cold sweat.
I was just wondering if it is possible to sleep in coach? HELP, PLEASE

I couldn't find any.
You might want to ask at On Track on line forums http://on-track-on-line.com/forums/index.php Cheryl

Although I do not have pictures to share with you, I can tell you this:
We took the auto train weeks after 9/11 because we were too afraid to fly. We were really nervous about the auto train, but we were very pleasantly surprised! . The coach areas of the auto train were very clean. The seats are very spacious, too. Although they do not recline flat, I was able to sleep pretty soundly. Here's a hint: because the seats in the auto train are in sets of two, many people grab a set of empty seats at night & make it into a bed. We did this on the way home and it was much more comfortable. Also, bring a pillow and a blanket because the ones that Amtrak gives you are very small. The dinners are surprisingly good, too. I think I had a grilled chicken dinner w/ veggies. They also give you complimentary wine with dinner. There is a lounge car that serves many types of mixed drinks. There's also a few cars that show a first-run movie during your trip. This year, we're taking the auto train again, but we opted for a sleeper compartment instead of going coach. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!

There are photos of the type of cars (Superliners) used on Auto-Train on Trainweb. The lounge cars and deluxe sleeper would be the only accomodations unique to Auto-Train, and not featured in these pages. For starters, you might try:
Sleeping car diagrams: http://www.trainweb.org/crocon/sleeperplans.html Everything can also be accessed from this next page, but it's mixed in with a lot of other trains' accomodations. Remember that Auto-Train uses only Superliner cars (coaches, sleepers, diners): http://www.trainweb.com/cgi-bin/top/...od/indexf.html Some of the information is a bit out of date (the locomotive link, particularly), but the descriptions are very comprehensive. Also, go to http://www.360360.com/trains.html and look under "Amtrak Superliner Trainset" for 360x360 photos of Superliner car interiors. Finally, for good exterior photos you might go to http://www.railpictures.net and do a search for "Amtrak" (yields hundreds of photos) or just "Auto-Train". |
