On my last vacation, by the time our plane landed in Orlando, I already had a series of text messages waiting for me from work associates.

They pay for my cell phone, thus they feel they have to right to contact me at any time for "help".

On the other hand, my boss is taking me to a tournament level golf course tomorrow. Inverness!

An organization that doesn't care about deadlines? You make it sound like I work for DOT.

Most Wisconsin vacations are actually hospital stays due to the steady diet of beer, cheese and sausage. Our cardiologists say we need to reduce stress, and thus, aren't allowed to work during our semi-annual triple bypasses.

The response to that is either someone is there at the office who can answer the question, or they're not paying you enough for your unique expertise.

I was complimenting your boss's relaxed attitude. If I miss a deadline, I get drawn and quartered. Then they get angry.

You need to come work for the Wisconsin DOT. There is a project on the north side of Racine that was supposed to take 6 months. We're now about 12 months in, and projecting to be done by Christmas. I haven't heard about any engineers or project managers being tarred and feathered, so it must not be too bad there.

DD was pretty under the weather yesterday and DW and I were sure she'd be too sick to go to daycare. So I called in. I hated to, because I'm already falling behind on a major email conversion and a day off the week before taking a week away would really put me behind the 8 ball. Well, DD woke up feeling better than ever, so I (reluctantly) dropped them off at daycare and came into work.

My saving grace is that when we're on vacation from work, my boss insists that we do not check work email or try to sneak in a few hours of work at night. I know some people have to be "always available" for work and I'm glad I work at a place where they actively discourage that.
Nice and glad to see that your bosses priorities are on target. Our organization is like yours for both me and my team in terms of family time comes first. Though I will check in on things at night, weekends or on vacation (so will my team) it is on our terms and if we do not check in "the sun still rises the next day".

For those who say it's a company phone so you have to answer it, take a 7 night DCL and tell 'em to cover the roaming charges

Enjoy the evening Dads.

It was great to finally meet up with you and the kids. The only way we could have made it better was to do it at the Penguin Exhibit

How did the rest of the day go? We made our way up/down Canada then through Africa back to entrance. By then we were pooped so took a spin around on the Zoomobile then headed home.

Penguin Exhibit and Beavertail - That's the plan for the next meet up. Let's aim for Boo at the Zoo weekend.

The rest of our day went pretty good. After the Panda's we finished the Australasia building, with the komodo dragon, and great barrier reef.
Then head up to the Tundra Trek, up the hill to the penguins, and did the big circle around Africa, lions, zebras, rhinos, hippos, elephant, did the Africa pavilion, visited the lemurs, etc... ending up at the Gorilla's. Saw the new Gorilla Climb, was impressed with that... the kids both want to try that next time.
Then we head down the path past the tigers into the Indo-Malaya building, and called it a day.
We took it relatively slow, as my mother takes breaks with her walking, she had 3 knee replacements (3 that's right - not a typo).

We left around 5:30... All in all a pretty good day.

I don't think my coworkers are smart enough to text, I went into work today and left around 10:00 AM. It was enough drama.

hmmmmm..... Doesn't drawn and quartered mean you get your arms and legs pulled off? Was it just a flesh wound or did you get better?

That is really good on the Disney vacations, especially with airfare. $2200 per trip. What's your secret?

I don't understand this "sick of Disney" though.

We didn't bother with the Gorillas, always a nasty crowd there, we just went around the African pavillion. I find since we have the season passes, we do little sections at a time. Maybe do half the park and call it a day.

Weird though to have a summer day where it is cooler outside the pavillions then in.
