If I had stopped and really looked at the big map, if I had perhaps written things down on what the names of places were, or where they were, it would have been MUCH better. INtsead I relied on the googlemap. Unfortunately, the version they used isn't the one I have downloaded, and it kept rebooting and disappearing on me. So I had no idea where I was going, either on a map or with the name of the stores.

DH was walking it, DS was going with me, and he was interested in RUNNING. As was I, really. But most of the stops were right there in Kent Station, so the whole running thing was a bit silly.

What I should have done was note the locations of the faraway places, and just run to those places. Then come back in to Kent Station to get those raffle tickets before the end. But we ended up following the crowd. Silly silly me.

I'm still highly annoyed at the whole thing, and at my reaction to it all. I'm also annoyed at DS and DH, who had all the info that I did, but kept looking to me like I knew more (like Harry Potter in book 7, where Ron thinks he knows more than he does).

It's mainly an event to get together and run around Kent a bit, and to get raffle tickets and discover burrito places and Naked Pizza and maybe win some prizes.

Because it's a hunt, the only signs are outside the establishments giving out the raffle tickets. Otherwise you have to go by the map or your photo of the big map. More of a scavenger hunt. And I knew all this, but didn't know how I would react to it. turns out I really hate the feeling of being lost, and despite having the googlemap on my phone, I felt lost, especially b/c it kept rebooting.

Blah blah blah.

Eh, light of day and thinking of "go to far places first then come back", I realize that I could do it again, just with better expectations. Also, I discovered Redhook's Wit beer, which was quite delicious (they have a beer garden after). Also discovered my need for a waterproof running jacket. How convenient that a sporting goods store puts on the event, eh?
Sounds... interesting. I can see why you would be annoyed. But there were prizes, yes? Hopefully you got something to cherish out of the event... besides frustration.

I ran the BWC 5K last year and really loved the ice cold towels and roses handed out at the finish line.

I am following Hal Higdon's Half Marathon Novice 2 training program to get ready for my June 2nd half. I am seriously thinking about registering for the Great Chesapeake Bay Wellness Race and Family Walk (http://dhmh.maryland.gov/eshc/SitePages/Home.aspx) since running a 10K on Mother's Day weekend is part of the training plan. Kids under 12 are free and the post race catered pancake breakfast sounds yummy! DH can't do a 10K but he can definitely handle a 3K walk with the kids.

Have you registered for any other local races?

I did actually win a prize. All food-related, which is difficult because I'm still working on getting to the goal weight, LOL.

Time (the whole 29 hours since then) has started to fix the annoyance, though. I could see giving it another shot. Of course most of that is because I bought a t-shirt for it, LOL. Ran in it today, good shirt.

Question about running 10 miles (important for the topic of the thread, LOL). If a couple of my toes are already hurting at 5, is it going to be horrid by 10?

Or do toes toughen up as you get more training in?

Wondered if you saw the pictures on their facebook page...

And as for the toes... personally, I found if my toes hurt... they hurt more with distance. Keep in mind I consider myself to be fairly new to running... but in my limited experience... if my toes are hurting it is usually due to shoes...either wrong shoe... wrong size... OR wrong lacing method. I have to watch how I lace my shoes!!! I have the wide around the mid foot..narrow at the heel... hard to make that tight enough so it won't slip off without making it too tight. Certain lacing methods fix that for me.

Nah, that's not creepy at all ... unless me snooping at your Facebook page with my morning coffee is creepy.

Awesome, you're a writer, runner, and Disney lover? You totally speak my language, then! What genre do you write? And your kid is absolutely adorable - he looks so much like my nephew at that age!

Yes, the towels and roses were great! Did they make you stop right after the finish line to clip timers from shoelaces again, though? In 2011, I was about two seconds from heaving after finishing and I desperately needed to walk it off, but I couldn't get through with all the runners stopped. Things almost got ugly. Then I took a free Tiger Milk because, you know, it was free and chocolatey. Huge, HUGE mistake! I'm hoping to make better decisions this year.

I did have big, awesome plans to run the Iron Girl on 4/28, the Frederick Nut Job 5k & 1/2, and Maryland Full ... but then I decided to put that money toward the TOT since we have annual passes. I might do a 10k in the fall in hopes for a new PR to use for the Princess Half, though.

Thanks--I think he's pretty adorable too.

My debut YA came out in 2010 and since then I've been writing mostly YA and some MG, without any bites. It's a tough business!

Did you guys see that Sparkle Skirts is having a sale? I haven't bought one before but the sale prices are great! Maybe I will do a costume theme for the TOT after all!

Now that you mention it, I do remember them being overly aggressive about getting the timing chips back. There was absolutely no shade on that race route and I definitely needed to rehydrate! My stomach is starting to cramp just thinking about what that Tiger Milk must have done to you!

Any tips on getting the cheapest airfare? We usually drive down but since it's just me going this time, flying will definitely be more cost effective. And it's a heck of a drive for a long weekend trip

Thanks! I just printed them out. How crazy is it that the training starts the week after the Williamsburg half that I am registered for? Perfect

We fly Southwest, since they always seem to be the cheapest and we use SW credit card bonus points. When are you arriving/leaving? We're there Friday to Wednesday and our flights were $127 departing and $108 returning. (They're Air Tran flights, since SW bought them out.) If you see anything for $108.00 I'd grab it, since from our experience, that's most likely the lowest rate you'll see.

Tiger Milk. Still can't look a bottle in the eye.

When/how do runners find out which corral they're in?

And to see the start and end of the race, where should spectators head for?
