My wife has started collecting various Disney books (guidebooks, biographical, etc) We have the old and new Imagineering books which are cool. What's your favorite Disney themed book?

my favs
I've been collecting Disney books for years and it's hard to pick a favorite type. I like Disney trivia and learning about the company during Walt's life, so I like the Dave Smith A-Z book. I have the original and 2 updates and they look like library books, they've been read so much.
There are many good Disney biographies. I particularly like "Building A Company" by Bob Thomas. It's a look at the building of the Disney empire with regards to Roy's role rather than Walt's. I love the "insider" tales of the early years like Backstage Adventures with Walt Disney by Charles Shows and Walt Disney and other Assorted Characters by Jack Kinney. A couple good newer books of this genre are Spinning Disney's World by Ridgeway and In Service to the Mouse by Linquist. Not sure of the spelling on either of those. I can check it and send you a PM if you're interested. One of my most prized is Window on Main Street by Van Arsdale France. My holy grail that I'm still hoping to get is Justice for Disney by Bill Justice. I also love the big beautiful coffee table books. I guess it's really hard to pick favorites when you love them all. The "Art of" series from the animated films, the sketchbook series, Herb Ryman's "A Brush with Disney", Disneyland by Randy Bright, Inside the Dream, The Disney Studio Story, Nine Old Men, Treasures of Disney Animation Art, Encyclopedia of Animated Characters, Before the Animation Begins, Since the World Began.... Anyway there are a couple of really good websites with extensive listings of books. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to put links here, but if you PM me, I'll send them to you. Kathy |

My newest favourite is The Darkside of Disney! I've got a few books in my collection and am always looking for more. After that I gotta put Disney Mountains, and Haunted Mansion in there.... heres a pic I took a few months ago...

Can someone give a quick comparison between the two Imagineering books, 1996 vs 2010?
I know they're both different, but I can't decide which one to get right now. I've heard the first one focuses more on early Disney years, and the 2010 book is more current-future. Is that true? Just trying to figure out which I want now and which can wait til Christmas/later.

I used to read the Disney Golden Books and the read-along stories when I was little. ^^ I still have my Tarzan one~ Today, I like the newer Marvel comics, the 'Kingdom Hearts' manga (Japanese comic) and a very, VERY obscure manga called 'Kilala Princess.'

Lot of great books already listed so I will just add "The Pixar Touch" which is a nice history of the Pixar history. Also already listed but I loved the Neal Gabler Walt biography.

Thinking Fan's Guide To Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom
Podcaster Aaron Wallace is bringing out a new book that could become a classic.
It's called "The Thinking Fan's Guide To Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom" and is the first of a projected series. It treats the theme park as if it is a work of art (which I guess it is) and analyzes the historical and literary inspirations behind all the attractions. He's offering a free downloadable excerpt at: http://intrepidtraveler.com/tfg-excerpt

I see a lot of books listed here but am not really sure what the subject matter is.
I am really interested in books which talk about the parks, specifically about designing/building rides. Can anyone recommend any like this?

I too would like something similar, a guidebook on the history of the parks would be brilliant.
