Camping at Cedar Point?
Anyone camped in Sandusky, OH near Cedar Point? Where did you stay, what did you do? Is there anything to do around there besides the amusement park?

If you are interested in Drag Racing, Norwalk Raceway Park is not far away.

The KOA is really nice. They have a nice snack bar that serves breakfast as well as burgers etc.

We camped at Cedar Point's campground. The biggest draw is of course early entry to the park!
Our campsite backed right up to the pool and that was an excellent location. We took an afternoon break at the pool everyday (after hitting the park hard at early entry every morning.) The sites are small and no campfires are allowed (except in the raised grill if you need it.) There are shuttle buses to the park, but we just walked (even with little kids) and it was faster and not that far. Don't know what else is in the area since we really only stopped here for the amusement park.

We enjoy NASCAR, but haven't thougth much about drag racing. My husband is into Street Rods and we have one and attend shows around here. I'm sure he'd love a Street Rod show.
Is the Cedar Point campground noisy? I assume the park is open late so I'm wondering if it would be noisy most of the time. We live in Vermont so we'll hit Niagara falls either on the way out or on the way back. Any other not to miss things along the way?

I too recommend camping at the Cedar Point Campground and a site near the pool is the best. The campground is surprisingly quiet as the park closes earlier than you would think and the sites there back up to the one wooden roller coaster. The pool and hot tub are almost never crowded. It is a small site, but for the most part people are friendly and the fire in the grill is big enough for s'mores and dinner.
We too walked to and from park and took a midday break for late lunch/ swimming and it was great! There is a lot to do in the Sandusky area but not sure about any races. If you are stopping at Niagara Falls, there are nice campgrounds in Buffalo, not a bad drive away.

If you would prefer to explore the area a little East Harbor State Park is nice. They only have a few full hook up sites and they go quickly. They have several electric sites and a places to get water and a dump station, if full hookup is not a must. The campground has a beach, a little nature center, planned activities for kids, and is peaceful. Marble head has a cute lighthouse that is free to climb (great view of Cedar Point), I am pretty sure you can take the jet express from Sandusky over to Put-in-Bay and maybe even one of the other islands in Lake Erie. Put-in-Bay is fun to explore. I would stay at Cedar Point campground for ease of access and early entry if that is all you want to do, but if you prefer a campground that you could get to Cedar Point from and do other things East Harbor is great.

We circled Lake Erie last summer. Started in IL and first stop was at the Ford Factory in MI. Then we went on to Niagara Falls, but we stayed in a hotel there overlooking the falls...awesome! Then back in the motorhome we had a lovely drive down through Buffalo and onto Lancaster County PA. We stayed several days to enjoy Amish country. Finally we went to Idlewild Amusement Park since it's well known for kids and then onto Cedar Point for a couple days.
It was our first long trip in the rv and it was a great way to start!
