I am in the camp that says at the moment, the value is with resale. The options that have been limited by DVC are expensive & not with it IMO. If you choose to go resale, it might take some patience, to get the UY,resort, contract size that you want. You also have to just keep looking past all the stripped contracts. Sellers that list stripped contracts, when similar loaded contracts are available just aren't serious about selling (yet.) if you would only be happy at BLT, i'd suggest you buy a contract there and book 10-11 months out. if you're happy anywhere on site at wdw, i'd buy SSR and try for BLT at 7 months out.

Not sure about resale contracts. If you buy direct, you can immediately start booking a trip. We did so after disembarking from the Panama Canal cruise in December. I will however, be buying the rest of my point on the resale market. You can always rent your points and purchase the trips with cash.

But yes, direct purchases are much quicker and you can make your first reservation immediately.

Yes I know about direct. I really don't want to buy resale o miss my pts at blt or rent more pts/cash so I can start using dvc to get to break even pt faster.

You need to remember that your DVC points are only guaranteed to be used at DVC resorts. Cruises, the Polynesian, Adventures by Disney could all go away or be severely limited. A few years ago, DVC were blocked out from booking cruises for a long, long period of time.

![]() To piggyback off of what Deb said, not only should you take a second look at the value you're placing on the direct perks, but you should take a look at how many points those so-called perks cost. A night in a Disney Collection hotel room (with a lower-tier view) can run as many points as a top-end two-bedroom villa. The cruises and ABD trips are often hundreds of points, so will you be purchasing a large enough contract to even afford those "perks" points-wise? I think you need to step back and figure out what you want out of a timeshare purchase. Are you hoping to save money? Do you want bigger accommodations? Are you buying points to cruise? What's the end-game for you and your family?

You also need to look at the difference in cost between resale and direct. We're not talking about a few bucks, it's likely going to be a several thousand dollar difference. Is it worth paying that much more just to get in the system quicker?
As for the ability to use points for DCL, ABD, and non-DVC Disney resorts like the Poly, not only can those go away after you sign the very expensive direct contract, but you'll probably be paying more by booking those on points than you would by just making a cash reservation, and you'll have a more restrictive cancellation policy. Especially for resort reservations. You'd do better on Poly reservations by just buying an AP and looking for an AP discount. |

And there's no guarantee that ABD would even exist in 16 years, or be available on points reservations, or that the point costs wouldn't have gone up so much that even with banking and borrowing, you wouldn't have enough to do it. |
