Superbowl Sunday
Hello DIS Dads!
I'm asking over on this thread since yall can give me a man's opinion. We arrive in Disney on Superbowl Sunday and my husband obviously will be watching the game that night. Right now, I'm planning on just keeping that night free of ADRs, but now I'm wondering if I should book a ressie somewhere? He can just walk in to ESPN Zone to watch without a reservation right? (If he doesn't want to watch in our room) What would yall do? THANKS! |

I would skip the game and enjoy time at the world with my family but that is because I'm Bills fan. It will be a meaningless game to me and the commercials will be on youtube.
If he wants to watch the game, plan on doing it in your room of, if you are so inclined, many churches have "Souper" Bowl parties that they tie into the game and the food pantry ministries. Chili, soup, bring a donation for the food pantry, etc. Pretty safe bet you won't get a beer though.

Where are you staying?
I would suspect that you can find a tv with the game on in the lounge areas of many of the resorts. A smaller bar/lounge at a resort might be a better option since the ESPN zone should be really packed. I assume you'll be at MK the next day? catch the superbowl MVP(s) at the park, if they still do that the day after.

ESPN would definitely be the place to watch, but as other said, get there early. There are no reservations and it will be packed. Another good spot is the TOTWL, if you are a DVC member or staying on points (I think). It also depends on your spouse - does he want to watch the game with 250 unknown people or at a small bar? The bar at the Contemporary Pool has 5 or 6 seats and the TV is tuned to football.
Another suggestion may be to ask closer to time if Disney is doing anything special. In the past, they have used the convention center at the Contemporary for Easter Sunday Catholic Mass. They may have something set up for the Superbowl.

I was there for Superbowl in 2011 and did not find any special place to go to watch. We ended up watching the game in my room an ordering a pizza from the resort quick service.
ESPN was out, we talked to them a few days earlier and they said lines start early and people camp out all day in their seats. And there was a minimum per hour to sit there. I would have love to try ESPN and if it is nice out in the past they have placed outdoor seating and telecast the game on the jumbo torn outside. I would find a small lounge somewhere like yacht club. |

I am still kicking myself because last year we were there for it (Superbowl fell on my birthday which was completely awesome!!!) and dummy me planned that Monday as a non-park day and missed Eli Manning. We are such huge Manning family fans in my house and to miss that was so upsetting.
