is it just me re: resort swimming pools

So I finally convince dh to do disney instead of universal next year. His condition was we have to go back to grand floridian. No problem, I say. Except after chdaecking these boards, it says courtyard pool undergoing rehab. But it sound s like they're filling it in and taking out the deep end??? What??? We loved that pool...hanging in the deep end. I don't care how deep it is, I need at least 5 feet. When we were at poly, the volcano poool was always packed so we hung at the quiet pool...in the deep end. I find out they filled that one in. If I had booked poly and not seen these boards and got there and there's a 3 foot pool, I would have been crazed. Is it just me? Does anyone have any info re courtyard pool at gf. Or info in general of why they are doing with pools at disney???

This makes me so sad. Even my kids hate the shallow pools. The have ruined poly quiet, DLH pool and now this.

I hope SAB stays at 8 feet-our fave to be able to actually tread water in a resort pool-pretty rare.

That deep end is why we are staying there...is there a possibility they will fill it in???

Well, I can tell you when they redid the pool at DLH, they made the whole thing 4 feet, not 3 feet, which stinks for both kids and adults. There is no deep end, and no shallow end. So pretty much, it is too deep for kids under 8 or 9, and too shallow for anyone over 12 or 13. DD, age 6 this summer on our CA trip had 2 choices, actively swim or hang on the side or just stand on the stairs, or she could go to the monorail slide "pool" and play in ankle deep water. She really couldn't have much fun in the pool. It was very disappointing, because their old Neverland pool was terrific and fun for her to play in, and she absolutely loves pools. We love DLH, but if we go out to DL again, we might stay somewhere else because of the pool issues. If they are taking out the deep ends of the Disney pools because of a concern for drowning liability for little kids, they clearly haven't fixed that at DLH, as DD is one of the tallest kids in 1st grade and she can't stand anywhere in their crummy pool.

I'm betting the GF pool won't have a deep end. I've heard it is going to be zero entry so hopefully there will at least be an area where kids can play in it.

At least at AKL they have on small area that's deep. The rest is 4ft. But we had pool noodles so could float around even in the 4ft area.
I too hate that they are making all pools shallow.

thats terrible about dl pool...i agree that i wont go to pool like that. i will just go back to portofino

This is just not my experience with the bigger DLH pool at all. We spent some time there in October, and not only were there tons of smaller kids splashing and standing and playing and horseplaying and screaming in fits of FUN (though I am opposed to *screaming* unless there's a tiger chasing you), but DS and I were able to do some laps (weird, turny laps, but back and forth swimming all the same) with some races when the pool was less occupied.

I didn't pay much attention to the smaller pool that goes under the bridge, but the bigger pool didn't pose the problems you've described.

Me too. Sucks. And then by making the pools shallower there are no places for the bigger ones (bigger kids and adults) to find their own space in the pool. Especially at the GF with the DVC coming.

think SALB is safe. one reason to stay there - it has a great pool.

OKW still has the community pools at 5'.

don't know what POR community pools are now.

really think Disney is going to far with 3' deep - Pop has it - but Pop also has lifeguards at every pool.

That's weird. Maybe they got so many complaints they lowered the water levels to try to fix it. We were there in June and DD really wanted to play in the pool and we tried both the pool under the bridge and the big pool and there was absolutely no place she could stand in either one with her head above water other than the stairs of the big pool. She was 46 1/2 inches tall...a big deal because she could ride Indiana Jones. There were other parents complaining about it too. For the 7 and under crowd unless you had a floatation device or were hanging on the wall you weren't moving off the stairs unless you were swimming. The whole pool was marked at 4 ft and it definitely was when we were there. That's great if they lowered the water levels so the smaller kids have a place to stand and play.

Posing the question!

Could this be to make the all the pool area more usable to more poeple? My expriences at WDW pools, deep and other wise, is that the deep end never seem to have many people, with the 4"/shallow ends much more crowded?
