People rip Avatar Land because they didn't like the movie, that's it, without even trying to understand the reasoning that actually makes Pandora a pretty good vehicle for imaginative people to make something beautiful (whether this disney has the balls to step up remains to be seen). Dismissing it out of hand because "I didn't like the movie" is a pretty small attack and not much of a starting place for productive discussion, is it? The movie Avatar is irrelevant if your focus is on a theme park and its attractions and as far as the creativity of the land goes. Do you think you have to have loved Cars or Harry Potter to appreciate the respective theme park lands? |

I personally would rather they add original attractions instead of pulling from another licensed franchise, but that's beside the point.
My issue with Avatar is the conservation theme. Having worked in the Conservation Education department, I know how dedicated DAK is to conveying positive, modern conservation practices to guests. Avatar quite blatantly attempts to impart not only anti-corporate sentiments, but violence as well. Disney has always recognized the need for everyone to work together peacefully to create a sustainable future. Avatar seems to go directly against this. Just my thoughts, anyway. No comment for Avatarland until I see further progress. That is all.
As for Carsland... I can see it happening, Though it would be nice to keep it exclusively for DL, since WDW already has TT. Then again, WDW has 2 Toy Story shooting attractions... All we can do is wait

The movie is an afterthought IMO. I don't think it has staying power in pop culture

~You don't like AVATAR, we get it. Really. ~Anyway, I am so happy this Carsland thing is a just a rumor! I just feel like doing cartwheels in the rain or something! Just the thought of those big bright orange cones all over the place at DHS, ugh. It would be so *not* fabulous!

Yes. And I would appreciate some respect for my opinion, please.
Regardless of what happened in the movie, when many people left the theater, one of their major feelings was "corporations are evil". Feelings like that make it very hard for people to want to trust or work with corporations. And that's exactly what we need to do for real conservation work to happen. Its true. I don't particularly like it. Its not horrible. The awards listed are all essentially effects awards as well as sound and the like. Thats fine. That doesnt make it a great movie. It got fairly good reviews. Not phenomal but the critics didnt fall in love with it. The visual effects were stunning.
Again I think avatar 2 is much more likely to be Matrix 2 then Potter. It was popular because of a gimmick. To be honest, who talks about Avatar anymore? That is except Disney people who either love the idea or dont I just would prefer so many other things: Beastly Kingdom, Australia, Middle Earth, Mysterious Island, Oz

Just like your opinion about Avatar fitting into DAK's theming. I don't think it does. I think it would fit better at DHS due to its cinematic nature and popcorn-friendly action scenes. To me, DAK's theming is more grounded. Sure, there are dinosaurs and even a yeti, but these creatures are a part of earth's history and rich culture, not some far-off fictional moon produced by Hollywood. DAK should be about appreciating our planet. Let's showcase the amazing creatures and cultures that are here and deserving of our appreciation. Just my opinion, of course.
