Is there ANY negotiating when buying direct...such as the $7 promotional credit?
We signed our contract on the Disney cruise and got a $7 per point promotional credit. I see elsewhere it's five. Can even hire promotional credits be negotiated or is there no wheeling or dealing?

You may certainly try to negotiate. However you will receive the current promotion that is currently offered.

That's an oddly comforting thought... like buying a car at carmax...or the way Saturn car dealerships didn't negotiate. everyone get's the same promotional deal.

The closest you get to negotiating is by doing something like, say you want to go for Christmas after joining, but it is all booked. Sometime the rep can find a room somehow, if you push for one. They are pretty good at doing this to make a sale.
Or you can negotiate for FPs and similar items. We did succeed in negotiating for a $1,000 gift card, as I recall this was because we named a few members that referred us, but can't remember all of the reasons, but then they offered to take that off the balance in lieu of giving the gift card. We are not sure why that offer was made, but we certainly accepted it. Also, because we were so close to the end of the use year, they gave us the previous use year points and offered to bank them for us, even though we would have been outside the banking window. We didn't take them up on that, as we wanted to use the points before the end of the use year anyway, but the offer was there. These are the kinds of things you can negotiate, price is usually what they offer it to you at and cannot be negotiated. |

A June UY banking deadline would be January 31st so you still have/had plenty of time to do that anyway. If you don't plan on using the current UY points prior to May 31, 2013 you need to make certain that they are banked prior to the end of January and then they will be available for stays from June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2014.

We have a June UY and have added on points in April, waaaay past our Jan. 31st banking deadline and have been allowed to bank our newly purchased points. I think that's pretty standard.
![]() Edit: added on directly through Disney (BLT) |

Yes, that is standard when adding on and you are past the banking deadline.

Yes, it is the standard. We have likewise added on past the banking deadline and had our points banked.

Price and any any price discounts or money awards (gift cards) currently available are non-negotiable; that has been true from the beginning. They have always allowed banking for the use year sold even if beyond banking date. As long as you raise the issue as part of the sale, they will perform magic for your first DVC reservation at your home resort if what you want is already full (DVD can use its own ownership interest in the resort or use time it gets from trade-outs to do that). Moreover, points become available for reserving as soon as you purchase and thus long before closing. They may even throw in some fastpasses if you purchase on-site. Otherwise, don't expect to negotiate anything.
