any ft. lauderdale experts. Need rental car that does not require shuttle
Hello all,
I'm flying into Ft. Lauderdale and need a rental car. My timing is close with a meeting and I wanted to rent a car that didn't require shuttle to get to. I was using southwest and I tried Alamo, Thrifty, and I think budget and while the counters were in the terminal, in small print it said I need to take a shuttle to pick up car. Any companies that I don't need a shuttle at all. thank you for any help

From the airport's website:
The Rental Car Center (RCC) offers 12 rental car companies in one building next to Terminal 1. Rental car customers no longer need to travel off-site to pick up or drop off their cars. Looks like FLL is one of the airports which consolidated all of the onsite rental agencies into one building. The shuttle runs continuously 24/7. I've never rented a car in FLL but I've rented a car in other airports with a central rental building. Never had to wait more then a couple of minutes for a shuttle. I mean a minute or two, not even 5 minutes. That said grabbing taking a taxi to your meeting will have to save you some time. |

Take a look at the website:
http://www.broward.org/Airport/Maps/Pages/Overview.aspx and Passengers arriving at Terminal 1 should follow Rental Car Center signage to the Concourse B pedestrian bridge. The bridge is located near the Concourse B security checkpoint. Passengers arriving at Terminals 2, 3, or 4 should follow Rental Car Center signs to the passenger pick-up area for free shuttle bus service. The pick-up areas are located outside of the baggage claim level, by the curb. The shuttle buses will take you to the RCC. SW uses Terminal 1, Concourse B. You won't be taking a shuttle, you'll just follow the signs to the rental center. |

The way it works at FLL is this...Terminal 1 you can walk directly over to the garage with the rental cars. Terminals 2, 3 & 4 you DO have to hop aboard a bus that takes you around to the garage. It is a 4 minute jaunt, and you do not leave the airport. You are renting a car at the airport.
For what it's worth, FLL airport cars are pricey! I always rent from national, but different times of the year different companies have better prices- Dollar has some of the lowest at this airport location..... This airport rental car garage very often runs out of cars it's crazy!! I'd reserve online before I'd tackle those lines..good luck!!

I spent 2+ weeks in Ft Lauderdale earlier this year for work. I had to take a shuttle bus to the rental area. The shuttle driver was extremely helpful with luggage and helping people on and off the bus.
My work set me up through Avis. I found the service to be fast and friendly. Walked out the doors, my car was right there, put my luggage in and off I went. Total time from landing to driving was about 30 minutes. The drop off was even better! Drove into the garage, the car was scanned, I signed, got my luggage and walked a short way to the shuttle. Easy peasy!

there is almost nothing to eat/drink at the terminal area..it is not like mco at all...especially if off hours...once you go thru security there are some options, not much IMHO..also, the walk for/drop off car is easy peasy...be sure you have that car filled before you get back to the airport...the gas stations around are more money and not filling up (cause we missed the exit before airport, we came from west coast) and then rental filled it... cost me $$$
