Beginner learning to sew - The DIS Discussion Forums

So at age 40, I bought my first sewing machine and made my first ever project: a Christmas tree skirt. I joined a group of friends who meet monthly to complete a sewing project - they showed me how to set up my machine, etc.

So any tips, resources (books/websites) or must have tools/products to share?

A rotary cutter and mat is really, really nice to have. It speeds things up and is easier than scissors for most projects.

Honestly, just doing a google search for 'beginning sewing projects' is great way to turn up all sorts of ideas right now. That way you can pick what's best for you rather than a whole list from me.

Have you come across the sewers on this website? It's amazing what some of them do with needle and thread. Stop by to have your socks blown off.
