The Mummy got his revenge
Spent 2 days at the "darkside" this trip and had a great time. Staying onsite was the way to go as we LOVED express pass and the extra hour in WWOHP. We had an interesting experience on the Mummy though.
DD and I went to ride it for the last time our trip, and as we were standing in line, we were watching one of the workers load people in, give thumbs up the guy running the ride and then as the car went by, turned her thumb down and glared at people. Our lines decided it would be funny to give her thumbs down right back. Mistake maybe? We got to the part where you stop at the screen before you go backwards and, well, we either didn't stop and hit the barrier wall, or the brakes slammed on. Either way, everyone's head snapped forward and it kinda hurt when we hit the lap bar. The power went off and it was pitch black in there. The recorded announcement came on to stay in our seat etc. People started pulling out their Iphones so we could have some light in there. DD said "Guess we shouldn't have given her thumbs down, huh?" After 10 or so minutes of nothing, the announcement changed to "our technicians have decided your ride cannot continue". After a few more minutes of waiting, 3 people came out saying they had to place a metal bridge across and then they would evacuate us one at a time. Once you got to the bridge you realized we were up pretty far. They took us down back steps, outside and through an employee walkway back to the front entrance. We were all given an express pass for either Rip Ride Rockit or Forbidden Journey. It was an interesting experience and the first time I've ever had to be evacuated from a ride. DD came off, looked at her little brother (who was going to ride it with us and chickened out last minute) and said "be glad you didn't ride because the curse is real".

Interesting. At least you didn't get stuck at the coaster part!

I remember hearing from someone who had to ride the ride with the lights on that they never took out all of the Kong ride pieces. So apparently there's still a giant Kong and some fake buildings in the ride. Wonder if that is true, would love to see a picture

One morning my wife Smidgy and I hit Seuss land at rope drop, and we were the only ones on the High in the Sky Trolly, although it was called something even more ridiculous back then, something like Sylvester MrMonkey's High whatever,,,, anyway, the two of us were the only ones on the first ride of the morning.
It promptly broke down inSIDE of a building where all these animations and MUSIC were going on . Oh no, that part didn't break down, just the car that's supposed to move along the track. 25 minutes we sat there having to listen to Seussian music blasting in our ears, Finally a couple of workers showed up with a ladder and one of them opened a panel to shut it all down, then we escaped by climbing down the ladder. Their compensation? Like you said, a fastpass for the Hulk or Dueling Dragons. Right, we were staying at Royal Pacific and had express pass anyway. Oh well.

I know Kong track pieces have always been in there, but Kong himself?

The above story about the Seuss ride made me imagine being stuck on It's a Small World. Ugh...

If so, it isn't where you can see it. There is, however, a small statue of Kong in the treasure room as a sort of tribute to the old ride (much like the picture of Mr. Toad giving Owl the deed in the Pooh ride at Magic Kingdom).

The ride cannot stop during the coaster section. It has to stop you in one of the brake zones. If you begin to backwards drop, you'll continue to the turntable. If you clear the launch, you'll stop at the fake unload. If you make it down the big drop, you'll stop after the big Medjai symbol.
Also, the only Kong that is left is the golden one in the treasure room. The kong track is also still attached to the roof, since removing that would have collapsed the roof. There are no fake buildings, Kongs, or other similar remnants in the building.

Anyways, that sounded really cool! I'd love to be evacuated on Mummy and see everything! It's one of my favorite rides. |
