I've heard that using the Bounce type inserts in the dryer will ruin the anti-microbial properties of our running gear leading to really stinky gear.

It's also good to use a specialty sports detergent or something like All Free. Perfumes and the like are also bad for wicking.

Same for me. Not sure I can do 7 during the week the rest of winter though so my Wednesdays might top out at 5 soon. I hope that doesn't hurt me too much when it comes time for the marathon.

Was supposed to do 4 miles plus strides this morning and my mind got the best of me . I should have just gone to the gym but I decided since the sun was coming up, I would run the track at the JHS a few blocks away. I HATE running on the track. It is so, so, so, so boring ! I would rather run on the treadmill while watching TV. At first it was beautiful watching the sun rise and seeing the trees, but that got old after 4 laps, LOL . I'll get back out after work, do the 4th mile and work on my speed.

And I have heard that you're not supposed to put wicking material in the the dryer at all, as it will cause a loss of efficiency and (in the case of sports bras) loss of elasticity. Stupid high maintenance running clothes!!

Are you doing Higdon's Novice 2 plan? That is the one I am on. I actually do the medium-long run on Mondays because I do a road runners fun run that day (6 miles) and just tack on an extra mile or two at the beginning or end.

Yep, that's the plan I'm using. Unfortunately I can't shift my days. I do T-W-Th and Sat. I might move Sat to Sun sometimes but the weekdays are stuck where they are or if I do move them it wont' help since I work until 5 every day anyway.

I might just have to break down and buy a headlamp or something.

I caught my husband trying to put my CW-X tights in the dryer. I almost killed him...almost. LOL At least he does laundry so I can't complain too much.

That's why I do the laundry in our house. I have certain things that I want to air-dry and separate detergent for my running stuff...I can keep it all straight better than my husband, so I take care of it all. Plus, I know he hates laundry and I don't mind it (in return he does the dishes...which I HATE).

Question about calf sleeves and running Goofy:

I don't have calf issues or muscle pain there at all. I ran the full 2 years ago, no issues. I've run 6 Half's, again no issues in the calfs. However, I'm curious about these little suckers! I understand folks who wear them if they have tight calfs. But what if you don't (like myself)? Is it a good idea to wear them for the sole purpose of recovery? Do they really help your entire leg from top to bottom, or just the bottom? I'm running Goofy in January and am plotting and planning the best route to fresh legs for Sunday and am simply wondering if these would help. Thanks!

I, like you, do not have calf issues, but did try them in training for a bit. I tried them on a tough trail run and I think they facilitated my running, but I ended up with a calf pull (which I have never had), and had to stop using them.

I think they are great for recovery, and can help people who have calf cramping in longer (marathon) races. Other than that I'm not sure they really are helpful. A lot of people wear them because they look cool too (if you are into that look). Also, more top women wear them than top men (very few if any).

I'm saving mine for recovery.

I wore CEP calf sleeves for the first time ever for the Baltimore Half Marathon 10 days ago. I didn't really notice feeling any different during the half but afterwards I had no muscle fatigue, tightness, soreness, etc at all! It was wonderful! I wore them all day. (Except for DD's homecoming pictures she asked that I take them off. lol We left baltimore and got home just in time for pictures so I didn't have time to change.) After I showered and settled in for the rest of the evening I put them back on. My legs have never felt better on race night or the next day EVER! I honestly didn't think they'd make that much of a difference. I bought them on impulse at the expo the night before.

I am going to wear them on all of my long runs from now on.

I was having some calf tightness while running a few weeks ago and starting wearing the sleeves and haven't had any while wearing those. This was my first experiment wearing compression gear while running. After all my long runs/races, I do wear compression socks and shorts and I do think that they make a difference as I typically don't have much soreness at all the next day.

They do not do anything for your upper leg though. However, CEP and others make compression tights or shorts that can help that. I wore the CEP shorts after the DL half (my quads get the most strained of my muscles during a race) and they really helped.
