San Pedro or . . .
We were just at DL in April before the Hawaii cruise, so when I fly out 2 days early for the EBPC in December, I thought to stay in San Pedro at the Doubletree. I won't have a car.
How safe is that area for walking around? Places to eat? Any kind of grocery store in walking distance? Please tell me what I need to know!

Surely SOMEONE lives, works or plays in this area. Anyone?

I live about 15 minutes from the San Pedro area. Personally, I would have no problem staying in San Pedro. I go there often enough. Are you going to have transportation while you are there?
My daughter's 8th grade dance was held at this hotel, and you will be in the marina area, near a yacht club. You'll be close to Cabrillo Beach, and there is the Cabrillo Beach Museum there. It's a small museum, but we've always enjoyed going there. Also, you will be near Ports O'Call, where they have different restaurants. We enjoy going to Acapulco's and sitting on the patio watching the boats in the harbor. I recommend reading the reviews for this hotel. Although you'll be in a decent area, you're going to need transportation to get to the grocery stores, etc. San Pedro is an older community, I think, and it shows in the environs.

We're going to be staying there Saturday before we get on the second Pixar cruise. From what I've heard and seen on Google maps, there is no where to eat or buy anything in walking distance. The hotel has a restaurant, but there isn't any other food for at least a few miles. It also looks like if you stay right around the marina, it's a nice place but a few blocks from the water it gets a bit sketchy.

Relaxing after a long day playing tourist in our home town of San Diego. We thought the Doubletree was great. Really nice place, friendly, neat little marina to walk around at. There aren't any stores in walking distance. We drive to the CVS, was a little sketchy but not worse than anything in some parts of town around us.
