Driving times in traffic
For our upcoming SoCal trip, I'm trying to figure out what some driving times are likely to be (even a range is OK). I can see estimates on Google maps, but I know the driving times can vary tremendously due to traffic. I'm wondering if anyone can help me determine what some of these "actual" times would be:
(even just a few of these, or a range of times would be helpful).
Thanks! Again, any info would be good. I think I know what "good" driving times are, but I don't know what to expect at those times. |

Just bumping my own thread - any info would be appreciated.
In particular, I'm wondering if we're stupid for considering driving from LGB airport all the way to Visalia on the night the flight arrives (we'd be leaving LGB around 6:30). Google Maps says about 3.5 hours (about the limit of what we would want), and it's usually pretty accurate for us, but I know it can be off in city traffic (it's giving 1 hour to Santa Clarita, which seems short). Of course, our other option has us leaving Anaheim on a Thursday morning and trying to make it all the way into Sequoia park that day - also seems not doable. I'd really appreciate any insight on any of the times listed, as to whether we should expect significant traffic delays. Is there any website that gives travel time estimates, factoring in for time of day? |

I don't know about Visalia, but here are my thoughts on the San Diego drives.
It's almost 2 hours normally from San Diego to LGB, assuming you are coming from the downtown or Seaworld area. However, on a Monday morning, depending on what time you leave, you could run into traffic on the 5 and the 405. Anaheim to San Diego is similar time, again with caveat that you could run into traffic if you are near rush hour times at either end of the drive. Hope this helps. |

For traveling from Anaheim to San Diego, if we are leaving in the morning, do we have to worry about rush hour in Anaheim (we will be going away from LA/downtown)? I guess we may still have to worry about heading into San Diego. We're leaving Disneyland, headed to Sea World, and I'm trying to figure out what time to leave (to arrive near park opening, but not trying to necessarily be there right when it opens). I am guessing that allowing 2 hours for travel should be a good estimate (that's longer than the 1.5 hours that Google Maps gives), then, since it might not matter if we're running a little late. |
