well...its been a few years...but if i remember correctly:
the "mountain", Coaster, and yeti were all built on seperate solid foundations to allow for them to move independently from the stress of the ride, the AA, and the support structure. It seemed like a great design idea. But very quickly after the ride opened...the yeti started going wrong. supposedly its movement caused so much sheer that it actually cracked the concrete foundation and the mechanical system was in danger of ripping itself apart. Now of course WDW isn't releasing this kind of negativity to the public at a character meet and greet. but alot of the issues, combined with the obvious failures and repair problems with the yeti itself...seem to mesh pretty well. What we do know is that the yeti was "outsourced" to a new company that very quickly went bankrupt a short time later. Disney did tout this fact before they knew they had a problem. by using WDI for "artistic" purposes, vekoma for the ride system, and (the company's name escapes me) for building the yeti. It was cheapskate synergy in practice...something disney strives for each day. so we know where this went wrong...but it seems like the problems are too big to fix. They can't take it offline indefinitely - its barely a park right now as is... perhaps, if they do the right thing and expand the park...then a missing rollercoaster won't be such a big deal...but those days are way in the future if at all

No one panic yet. From what I've heard on another site, Disney has been telling guests who ask about the Yeti that a solution has been found and they intend to have him fixed this year. This is strange because originally CM's were saying they were looking into the problem. I don't see why they would change their story unless they really had a solution. I've also been hearing that they may be building a new Yeti all together.

Now, everyone needs to be careful of expectations, most certainly the Yeti will not be "fixed" in its original form. Most likely they have figured out a new design or way to display the Yeti....I do not have my hopes up that the original Yeti will be back in its full glory. But, most likely it will be much better than the disco Yeti.

I've heard it's going to be a 3D yeti with music by Randy Newman. Don't forget your glasses -- you can pick them up after the big drop.

They've worked on her before behind a scrim on several occasions, and not once has she moved afterwards. And we've heard they've found a solution before as well. Take it with a grain of salt.

I don't see anyway to "fix it" without reinforcing the foundation...at that isn't going to be accomplished with trains flying by...
I'm not one to go batty over AA...because while its fantastic it isn't technologically innovative anymore. But they built the ride on this particular one. Without some kinda movement the entire ride becomes what it is in its current state: a six flags esque, low-end coaster/ partial dark ride on the low end of the bell curve of coaster technology. The argument can't be made that EE is "great" without the yeti...cause it isn't. And the theme is integral to the ride here...as it is with splash mountain and the tower of terror. It doesn't work without it. Here's to hoping

EE is only a Dticket without the Yeti and I don't bother with it in it's current state.

to be honest...this is a small problem for Animal kingdom to me....we need a major expansion plan and reinvestment...and once we get that rolling - then EE becomes available for full scale change. my opinion...but i'm looking at the prices of annual passes and starting to question whether i can justify paying so much more for "inflation, maintenance, and cost of living" for much longer. I really don't care how screwed up california adventure is...because the "recovery" is not trickling down in the america i live in and we need some bang for our buck at WDW or it may not be a priority for much longer

I think there's other things they could do with it, but I'm saying this without any blueprints or designs...could they place a yeti somewhere else in the ride, like on the backwards section?

If they can reduce the weight of the yeti.. next generation servos etc
correct the foundation should be workable in A/B mode maybe it doest swing so close like it used to every time. I am still trying to figure with an independent foundation, and a very large mobile figure at the top... how they thought it would be ok.. someone did not pass statics/dynamics in college. |

No it had not closed and even if the Yeti had to be removed the ride would not close.
