With 12 I can imagine what you would have to pay. In some areas we're paying extra for the convenience. With the 6 of us, we're still taking the DME just to avoid confusion. In the future, we may rent a car of our own as it may be cheaper in the long run for us.
When it comes to excursions, and you really want to do something as a group, rent a car. As much as St. Croix is the biggest USVI, it's not a really big island. One adult can run a bit of a shuttle system perhaps. Or, look at a Cruzan Rum tour but perhaps find a local shuttle online.

Itinerary Change for the 12/5/09 7-Night Eastern Caribbean/St. Croix Sailing
During the 12/5/09 7-Night Eastern Caribbean/St. Croix sailing, DCL has learned that an additional cruise ship is scheduled to visit on the same day as the Disney Magic. Due to the anticipated additional passengers ashore, which will impact the guest's time and experiences on St. Croix, the itinerary has been modified for this sailing as follows:

On Tuesday, the ship will call on Tortola vs. St. Croix.

I'm really sorry for those who wanted to do St. Croix, but I've been there before (as well as St. Thomas) and I wasn't too enthused about St. Croix. It looked awful boring when I was there the first time.

Now we're going to BVI, USVI and a Bahamian Island! 3 different countries!

I'm excited!

P.S. just checked the DCL site and it's true!

mvlimmex was the OP on this thread. Now that it's at Tortola, maybe the St. Croix should be edited to reflect the new destination.

Can she do that this late in the game?

Also, I've been looking around the site. Does anyone know where the ship would dock on Tortola? It's a big island and I am just wondering where the beaches will be wrt our dock.

Us, too! I couldn't travel on that day, the Dec 5th departure worked better. I"m very happy with the change.

edit: I wonder when Dreams Unlimited is going to email me to let me know the itinerary changed? Thank God for the DIS...

Passporter cruise book says there are no beaches close to the dock.

I checked out the excursions and booked the land and sea tour for us. There was one tour that goes to a luxury resort that sounded really nice if you're a beach person.

What excursion did you do in Tortola?

We did do the same cruise. While onboard, we looked at all of the value dates for DVC points. The only one available in 2009 and 2010 was this cruise. Do we booked with points. Additionally, my mother-in-law could come on the cruise.

We actually did not do any excursions on the last cruise. We got off only briefly at Tortola. I can have my daughters check with their friends from the last cruise about whether any of them did any excursions.
