50s Prime Time
As I mentioned before, my Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin joined us for parts of the trip. This was one of those times
Back around 1995, we did our own Grand Gathering, before Disney had a name for it. About 10 of us descended on 50s Prime Time and fell in love. Partially because my parents grew up with all this decor. Every time we walk in here I hear, "oh yeah, Nans had that" or "we had that in our kitchen." Every. Time. My Aunt & Uncle live in the house my Mom grew up in. Their kitchen has never been updated. Their stove is turquoise. Downstairs they have a bar with orange stools. Seriously...if the restaurant needs any replacements, I know who to call So anyways, we walk in for our late(r) lunch and meet our family members, where else? ![]() At the bar. They were just finishing up their drinks, I checked in and told them we were all here (ADR was under my name.) And within a couple minutes, Mom was ready for 6 kids. For some reason, we love to do lunch here over dinner, I don't know why. But for that reason, I usually forgo getting an adult beverage. On this trip though, I was determined to try a Grandma' Picnic Punch, so I did! ![]() I was a little concerned I wouldn't like it, so my Mom got Dad's Electric Lemonade: ![]() I knew I would like this. What I didn't know is how much I would love the Picnic Punch. Ummm can we say delicious?? It turned out great, because my Mom prefered the Lemonade. We were good kids too, set the table right away!! Now, my staple here is always the Caesar with salmon. It's very yummy. But all that morning my stomach had been twisted in knots (probably because I ate too much the night before...and then rode Star Tours and Rock n Roller...bad idea!!...oh, here's a tip: Disney sells their pretzels in a small bag for only 85 cents. Not a bad deal if you need something to settle your stomach!!) So because of my queasy stomach, I decided grease was in order, not garlic I decided to order this: ![]() YUM! The thing about Prime Time is that it's kind of hard to screw up the basics. Unless of course your food is brought out cold Mine was fine, but my uncle's meatloaf came out cold, so he had to send it back. But "Mom" sent out a new piece for him without a problem. Oh, and if you notice, the Fried Chicken is supposed to come with mashed potatoes. For some strange reason, my stomach doesn't like mashed potatoes (the ones at Bistro weren't true "mashed potatoes," not like these anyway.) So I subbed fried. And yes, that is FOUR, count them F-O-U-R, pieces of chicken on that plate. Good Lord, that's a lot of chicken. I ate almost all of the breast and that's about all I could muster. And I did eat some of my "greens." I really like the atmosphere here. The food is nothing fancy, but just good 'ol fashioned American fare. I would have loved to try the S'mores for dessert, but I was just too full. My family comes here on almost every one of our trips (at least the ones that involve HS!) Of course it helps that we don't like the CS offerings But we love the fun that ensues. FTR: My Dad had the fish sandwich, my Mom had the Fried Chicken, my Uncle had the Meatloaf, My Cousin & Aunt had the Chicken Sandwiches. All but the meatloaf came out fine. (But really...ewwwww meatloaf, serves him right! )Bonus! ![]()

Thanks for the Bistro review. I really want to give it a try soon. I'm just not sure our DS's girlfriend is ready for it. We're improving her palate range a little at a time. 50's looks like a fun place for lunch. I'm glad we decided to give it a try in May. I also enjoyed your Citricos review. We've made our ADRs for May, but I keep wavering between Citricos & Jiko. From reading your posts, I'm guessing you'd recommend Jiko.

I would definitely recommend Jiko. But it happens to be my absolute favorite restaurant in all of WDW, heck, anywhere even! I love it there. Might have something to do with their filet and mac & cheese entree! Hah...two of my favorite foods But then I love their flatbreads too, and service, ooo, and the Mount Kilamirta? DELICIOUS! So yes, I recommend Jiko over Citricos. But Citricos is top of my list too. Tough call.

ESPN Club/Jellyrolls
Monday night we headed over to the Boardwalk for a little nighttime entertainment. This night was totally unplanned. And
wasn't planned by food. I know, I know! But my Uncle had originally said to my Mom that they wanted to eat at Mama Melrose and asked if we wanted to join. So we said yes (kind of slowly because we're not MM fans, but they like it and we thought we'd give it another try...) But then he waited until the week before to try to make an ADR for a party of 6 on a Fantasmic night Soooo that plan was scrapped. My cousin is a former CP CM and loves Jellyrolls, so she suggested we all head over there, sounded like a plan! Just hmmm...what food?? We just wanted junky food, were thinking about pizza from the Spoodle's window, but while it was plenty warm during the day, the nights were fairly chilly (uh hi February!) So it was either Spoodles or ESPN Club. The Brewing Co is not a favorite of my extended family, so that was not considered. Here's a note: Spoodle's could take a party of 6 within 25 minutes! But we opted for sitting in the bar area at ESPN Club. Oh, and this was also at like 630...prime dinner time.Something we never knew: you can just walk into the bar area at ESPN Club, it's first come, first serve. So we squeezed into a booth. I got boneless wings (very spicy) my Mom got Nachos, my Dad got a burger (I think) and then ate some Nachos while I stole his fries. We're a very sharing family! And my Aunt & Uncle shared the Nachos. My Cousin got a burger. All in all, it was good, food came out quick, it was hot & tasty. Happy campers all around. But I forgot to pull out my camera We headed over to Jelly Rolls just a little after 8. (We took our time at ESPN.) The place apparently opens at 7, but they don't take the stage til 8. When we got there (remember it was a Monday night) it wasn't crowded at all. So we got a couple drinks and settled in. I got back to the condo a little after midnight. I loved Jellyrolls. (21+) As I said, it was the first time I had been there, but it certainly wouldn't be the last. It was such a blast!! Bonus:

Cape May Cafe Breakfast
Another first!
My last trip to the World I went to Chef Mickey's. It was just my best friend and I. Ohhhhh I was not pleased with Chef Mickey. We were seated right after we checked in (so far so good) but in a room that the characters were just leaving from. Hmmm...okay, maybe the characters are working quickly today. So we got our food sat back down...our waitress brought our check. "Not to rush you, just when you're ready." By this time everyone else in the room was leaving and they were changing the tables over. So my alarm bells are starting to go off, but whatever, not getting annoyed yet. So we went back up for a little more. Had to ask for refills... Sat back down. Now our waitress came back to check to see if we paid, didn't want to keep us waiting. Waiting?? We hadn't seen characters!! They weren't trying to rush us were they?? So I went back up and got a plate of fruit for us to nibble on while we were "waiting." Our waitress came back and checked again. So I told her, "oh don't bother, we haven't seen characters yet." I might be in my 20s, but I'm at Disney, and we were both wearing ears...what makes you think we wouldn't want to see characters??? So after that experience + the construction, I wasn't in the mood to go back to Chef Mickey's. We like 'Ohana's, but we decided to just throw caution to the wind and try something new. One of my good friends is also a Disney fanatic and her favorite has always been Cape May Cafe. So we gave it a try!We loved it. It's our new favorite!! Unlike Chef Mickey's and 'OHana, it's much quieter, seems like it's a little more "civilized." You don't have all the antics with the kids running and screaming. I know you're in WDW, but still, we were never permitted to act that way. And I think when you have the parades and what have you, it encourages it. So not having that, things stayed a little quieter, so we loved the atmosphere. There were less characters (only 3) but I think it was also a little cheaper. The food was great. I think my favorite was the strudel. My Mom really liked the breakfast pizza. My Dad was happy to get coffee Didn't have a problem with drinks. I usually have juice, when it was close to being empty, I was asked if I wanted more. We also were able to see the characters more than once and weren't even there that long! And the characters certainly took their time with each table. I mean, at ours since we're adults, we just like a picture, then we're done, but Goofy stayed and messed around with my Dad a bit, Donald really took his time at all the tables (we were watching.)We'll definitely be back!

What an amazing report! Believe it or not, I've never read a Dining Review here before.
Why, I don't know. I think I forgot this board existed. Anyway, great job!!! I love your descriptions as well as your photos. Eating at WDW is a huge part of each trip for our family, as we just love to experience it all while we are there. We've had some amazingly fun times at 50s Prime Time. Here's a pic of mom force feeding my hubby his green beans. And my sis-in-law standing in the corner for tattling on DH. Out of all the places we've eaten, we've never been to Jiko's or the Bistro, but can't wait to try them. Thanks for such a great review of the Bistro. Boma is high on our list of favorites, so I'm thinking we'll love Jiko too. Looking forward to reading more! |

Snacks!
Since we had a big breakfast plus the tea a little later, my Mom and I just had a snack at the MK. (This was my Dad's golfing day...he goes twice on the weekends sometimes, apparently he was going through withdrawl
) So after breakfast we dropped him off and we headed over to the MK. After getting soaked on Splash Mountain, we took the train to the front of Main Street. We got some popcorn (something about WDW popcorn, yum! ) and popped a squat:![]() This was a fun spot to watch from. Lots of families taking pictures, etc. Only once was asked for a photo. But really people, you want someone with greasy popcorn hands to handle your camera? I was nice enough to wipe my hands off, but not everyone is...

I think I"ll have to try the Grey Goose Slush.
I think I'll skip Bistro. About how long does it take to eat at 50's Prime Time? I really want to go but MGM is only open til 7pm when we're there. Not sure I want to take out time unless we can be done within an hour. Cape May will go on our maybe we'll try it list.
