family trip in May (done!)
(the next two paragraphs mean nothing since I changed my title, and continue to change my title. Ignore them)
First off, my deepest apologies for using the highly obnoxious word "trippie". I want to cringe too, but I have not been able to get that "word" out of my head since I first started reading trip reports here.
Editing to add...I added the "big small world" to the title b/c DS was singing that just now. Had to remind him that it's close for cleaning. He was shocked that it's taking them a year to clean, when it only takes us a half hour to vacuum the apartment!.
Back to the pre-report.
It's late March. We find the Bumbershoots lazing about, having been sick for ages (it seems), planning a family trip in late May. What's the occasion? What could possibly get the little bumber excited about Disneyland again, after being dragged to and fro by his evil mama last December*? Why, the wee bairn is turning 4, that's what!
When I took my solo trip in January**, the main purpose of it was...well there were two reasons.
One, I hadn't been away from DS since he arrived, and had never felt the need to be away. But after our December trip, including the 9 days we spent after DLR at my brother's place, I felt the need. Although I blame most of his behaviour on my misguided touring plans, thinking he would like the time at his uncle's luxurious house, and some of the food I let him eat (wasn't quite vigilant enough about the corn syrup products that turn him into a beast), that wasn't keeping me from having some negativity. When we got back from San Diego, I was more exhausted than ever, and was having some serious sleep issues (go back and check how late some of my posts were, I dare ya). That was one reason.
The second reason was that I knew I had done wrong in December, the boys, er, men, er males in my family made that pretty obvious without being mean about it. I had them up too early, out too late, nowhere near enough sleep, and we did too much. My fault. But one of the problems of being single until you are almost 34 is that you are very used to being on your own and not having to think of others. And it's HARD to suddenly become 100% selfLESS, even if for a really good cause (especially if you have been selfless while meeting your little one's needs in every OTHER way (anyone who knows that DS is an extended nurser can understand how, um, drained I must be by now!)). I needed some time on my own to tour in my own way, with no one to worry about but myself. I did a little bit of that in December the night it rained, when the menfolk went back to the hotel and I stayed and played in DCA.
Luckily my hubby showed a surprising amount of understanding, and suggested that we find a way to go. I went, it was great, DS spent his first night without me and did very well (though they had to fall asleep in the living room on a sleeping bag, LOL). I thought, and I still mainly think, I got it out of my system.
So I think it's time for me to test that, with a trip specifically for the boy's day!
Although the Entertainment Rate doesn't show for all of our days now, I booked Hojo in time, and I got that terrific rate. I think that the big pool will be closed for renovation during that time (checking in May 25th), but we can use the quiet pool. And yes, I promise we will take breaks. I promise!
We're starting and ending our trip visiting my brother, and he's letting us borrow his car (or rather, since she picked it out, his wife is letting us borrow her SUV...don't all families of two have three cars? ) for DLR. They may or may not join us one of our days in Anaheim. I hope they do!
Woah. I just realized that, even though the walk to/from HoJo is very easy for us, we *could* drive if we felt like it. Of course if I did that I'd feel the strong need to upgrade my AP to a premium...
Speaking of that, should we get blockout tickets for the 25th? We have never seen Fantasmic, the guys have never seen the Electrical Parade! But...$120 to get us in on that day? Really? We could simply do some shopping in DTD, or even go to the outlet in Fullerton, get DS some fun little presents for his day... but...but....Fantasmic! Electrical Parade!
I think I need a new post.
