Purchasing points later down the road
Hey all! We are purchasing a DVC and we are going through resale. So here is my question. Say later on down the line we want to purchase more points, can we do that through Disney, or just re-sale if we initially buy through resale? How would we add points to our current DVC if we purchase resale? Thanks!

a couple of clarifying notes:
1) you can "add-on" through resale if you buy the same UY month and title the deed exactly the same way. your 2 contracts can still be willed or sold separately but will be tracked under the same membership number and will work together like 1 contract (at 11 months if you buy the same home resort or at 7 months if you buy a different home resort). they might change this rule going forward but it has been allowed so far. 2) you can add pts under a different membership through resale by buying any UY month, but you cannot pool pts from both contracts to book a single night without using a transfer. (long story short, it's easier to have the same UY month). 3) assuming disney has the points available, it's easier (but more expensive) to add-on directly. again, you'd have to have the same UY month to "add-on" to your master contract - you could add a new membership by buying a contract directly subject to whatever minimum purchase they currently required. your direct purchase pts would have access to cruises and wdw trades for the polynesian hotel, but your resale pts still would not.

The only thing you have to ensure is that the new purchase is titled exactly the same as the original resale, and the use year has to be the same to hold both contracts in the same account.
You should get the same use year because if you don't, you will not be able to combine points from the two contracts except by transferring between accounts. |

So much helpful info! Thanks guys!
Another question. If you buy resale, there are those restrictions. If you buy add-on points via Disney, are those added on points subject to restrictions as well, since you originally bought re-sale?

but you'd need a lot of direct purchase pts to take advantage of those options as they tend to be expensive...
