I think that this is permanent. There's just no way to get that thing operational - if the reports are correct - because it has a bad structural design.
I don't see anyway you can feasibly fix a bad structure unless you peel the mountain and track back and basically spend two years redoing the foundation - which will NEVER happen. This is fastly becoming the biggest mechanical failure in the history of WDI...and that's with doozies like test track and rocket rods on the books.

Big bad design job by WDI followed by extreme cheapness from TDO.

Sorry OT, but answering a question asked
From what I understand it supposed to be much more intense. I have no inside information or anything other than my gut, but I think the anti-lock brake test is big area where they had to de-tune the ride prior to opening. I know it was delayed by at leat months, nit sure if it wa years. next time you are on the ride see how much different the anti-lock Vs. non-antilock test feels. To me it is Identicle, perfect palce for a spin out in the non-antilock test. (totally speculation on my part) |

Test Track was originally scheduled to open a little over a year after World of Motion closed. Although most of the work was done by the original opening date, the actual opening of the ride was delayed for almost 2 more years due to significant technical problems.

Test Track is reportedly the most expensive amusement park ride ever...as estimates for its final construction cost are above 300 million dollars...mostly due to the numerous failures, delays, and redesigns during construction...
Not only did it open years behind schedule (though not quite to the level of the haunted mansion at disneyland)...it burns through tires, brakes, and computer systems on the individual vehicles itself. So basically, the ride is overdesigned and the technology was never meant to handle the stress put on it as a high volume, repetitive ride system. but to be fair, they've done an impressive job keeping it operational for 12 years now and getting as much out of it as they have. It did erode the relationship between Disney and one of its original corporate sponsors at EPCOT -GM But since they've made terrible, overpriced cars for decades...that probably didn't matter much anyway as far as corporate sponsorship is concerned

On my most recent trip to WDW (September 2012) I learned what the deal is with the Yeti from a very reputable source.
The yeti has has many issues over the years and recently imagineers have put her "in the dark" so to speak so when you rode you could just see the yeti's face peering out of the darkness. My source stated the yeti's problems were getting too much for imagineers and guests and she was barely functioning day to day. As of late September she was in the dark so the issues weren't as obvious as the yeti being unable to swipe for riders or basic movement. The yeti will be either in the dark or removed to be worked on and will not be back to top form ie working normally for 12-18 months Such a shame as it was my boyfriend that pointed it out on our first ride through the yeti was really dark and didn't move, hope it's brought back to top form with some well needed imagineering :-D |
